A rag tag crew of adventurers. Three legendary castles. Mischief, monsters, and mayhem abound.
At the behest of a mysterious sorcerer, Tor and his crew must infiltrate Shadowmar Castle, a remote, legendary stronghold protected by a monster most believe is pure myth. Worse, they are not allowed to kill the monster nor have they been sent there to recover relics from the past. This bizarre quest leads them down an unexpected path toward another legendary fortress.
Sailors have long told tales of Hollow Keep. None of them are good. Passersby report horrific wailing coming from the keep, and at night, ghostly figures appear to haunt the ancient ruins. Yet, Tor and his misfit crew intend to brave whatever dangers lurk in this legendary castle and discover what treasures await there.
This dangerous path, filled with twists, traps, and unexpected turns, might lead them to an dead end...a very dead end.
I love fantasy, adventure, and magic. More than that, I adore my readers.
My books are written to entertain -- fantasy adventures filled with compelling characters, spectacular magic, thrilling action, constant intrigue, and a sense of discovery. I equate them to the "Marvel Movie" version of fiction, intended to be a fun escape.
I would love to have you join me and my quirky characters for one outrageous adventure after another. With over a million published words, my author journey has just begun.
Best wishes, Jeff

Found family and an awesome treasure hunting team, what better could one get! The team have very different skills and each one is vital in their quests and a good dose of lady luck, well mostly....Koji is a great bleeding heart, Borgli is a stoic Dwalf who just doesn't get the mannerisms and jargon, Quell is the snarky, feisty bow wielder and of course, Tor is the adventuror of note! Together they're a force to be reckoned with, the ultimate treasure hunting team, the best of unlikely friends. The banter between them is super clever, the bond unbreakable and their loyalty unsurpassed. They do the bidding of their employer, Vanda, who none can trust, who all see as an enigma, someone who doesn't give them the full picture, ever! But hey, he pays good coin and how can they resist that?
Elusive castles, haunted keeps, fighting off monsters of every kind, and I do mean EVERY, that's all par for the course for the crew, because let's face it, treasure hunting is as dangerous as it is exciting. And I love when I see one of them say "what can go wrong?" That's when I go "oh-oh, now you've jinxed it!" I thought it was very clever how some characters we've met in previous series make an appearance, yes, even Jerrell! How cool??? Their adventures take many turns, they barely escape with their lives time after time and the worst of it? After a long 6 weeks of adventuring they finally come home to the biggest betrayal of all! Yep, you definitely have to read this book to see exactly what went down but know with certainty that the adventure is far from over!
I love the richness of this world, the richness of the world building, the richness of the events, the richness of the characters. This is like a chunky, thick stew, full bodied, warming, easy to consume and leaves me filled up to to the brim, delicious, solid, with all the delectable nuances, and hearty! THIS is how this book sates me, heck, all of Jeff's books do! Each one I read leaves me knowing I'll revisit this establishment, to once again savour a delightful meal and the varied menu!
I'm not gonna lie, this quote is the exact epitome of all the relic hunting, creature battling, deadly puzzle solving, companion saving complete AWESOMENESS that is Castles of Legend. This story picks up where Temple of the Unknown ends and from there it relentlessly hits the gas and barrels down a twisting, turning, death defying track that makes for an AMAZING thrill ride of and ADVENTURE and I enjoyed every CAPTIVATING moment of it!!!! (AND SO WILL YOU! Trust me! This is one Wizardom adventure you DON’T WANT TO MISS!)
Tor and his rag tag crew of relic hunters find themselves not only scheming, fighting, and unraveling ancient puzzles to find and commandeer mysterious and ancient treasures in this second book in the Tor the Dungeon Crawler series. As they complete Vanda's latest mission, they set events in motion that will ultimately impact the entirety of the Wizardom world. But that isn't the only adventure on Tor's mind and soon Koji, Borgli, and Quell find themselves along for the wildest and most harrowing escapade of their relic hunting endeavors.
There is absolutely no way I could pick a favorite character. All four are absolutely amazing, extremely hilarious, and so unbelievably realized and fleshed out that I have completely fallen in love with all four. Each one has their own unique personality and skill set that they bring to the crew and they all have a way of complementing and showcasing each others best qualities. Be it strong, resilient, completely ingenious but also sweet and fatherly Tor, Koji that is both giant and fierce grizzly and completely lovable teddy bear, ale swilling, gas passing, completely clueless Borgli that is simply hilarious and endearing as he tries to navigate this new world outside the mountains, or Quell with her strong willed, entirely snarky, says it as it is, but with a soft interior hidden below her tough words and tougher ranger skills nature, EVERY SINGLE ONE IS AMAZING!
There are so many WONDERFUL aspects to this series. Kohanek has really struck gold in creating this masterpiece of characters. And as always, his world building is TOP NOTCH and entirely CAPTIVATING. But I think my favorite aspect of this book was all the different puzzles the gang had to work their way through. Kohanek is an ABSOLUTE GENIUS when it comes to creating and then explaining all these complex and intricate puzzles to the reader so that they can not only understand what the characters are doing, but visualize them as well.
So if you love a great adventure filled with four of the most amazing and endearing characters this side of the Wizardoms, lots and lots of vicious and deadly creatures and battles, harrowing escapes, awesome and mysterious treasures, tons of laugh out loud moments, friendship, loyalty, and betrayal then you HAVE TO READ Castles of Legend. You won't be Disappointed!
Tor, the relic hunter and his crew of misfits are once again on a quest for Vanda, the sorcerer and this time round they venture to the castle ruins of Shadowmar where a dangerous monster of myth attacks them. In Shadowmar they find what they came looking for, but this leads them to another castle down a dangerous path towards secret lost for millennia. Our group made up of Tor, Koji, Borgli and Quell all use their different abilities to save their lives as they face monsters such as a minotaur, orcs, a moarbear and a frost wolf. They venture to Hollow keep which is said to be haunted by ghosts, and there the face another threat, and though they are not meant to kill this monster they inevitably do and are surprised at the result. Another clue sets them on their final quest involving the castles of legend and they venture into the mountains in search of the silver stronghold, an old and disused mine in search of the sceptre of Vis Morta, a goddess of death. I love the excitement of the adventures, the banter between the group of our unlikely heroes, and the ending which is such a cliff-hanger demanding that we read the next book ASAP. Jeffrey L. Kohanek sure knows how to weave a fun adventure story with rogues as heroes and I just cannot get enough of the Wizardom world he has created.
Certainly this is not your average fantasy novel. Searching for relics in abandoned places without a clear enemy to fight against is much less thrilling than the classic stories. Yet it's interesting to change for a while. This book includes three adventures with complex dungeons and plenty of traps. There is also a lure to another trilogy outside of the classic fantasy path. Maybe there are hints to other books in the wizardoms stories wich could give more value to this one.
There are fights and danger. The team is formed with very different characters and each of them provides unique skills, so only all of them united can succeed. Althoug the last part is against common sense and a final fail left a bitter end, it clearly leads to a more classical fantasy story for the next book with high stakes and a clear enemy to defeat. So, lets say it's a painful but necessary way to the great finale.
The second book in the Dungeon Crawler series continues with our adventurers travelling to the ruins of the ancient Castles of Legends. They have become a tightknit group that have each others backs and tease like a family. Descriptions are awesome and make you feel like you are right there with Tor and his crew. One of my favourite scenes involved shields and snow!
Twists and turns, monsters, near death experiences, more monsters, betrayals and humorous events make it difficult to put down and leave this world for real life.
The plural of "castles" made me wonder how much of an adventure one can have having to visit two or more castles to do some treasure hunting. Well, it turned out there are three castles involved: Shadowmar Castle,. Hollow Keep a and Silver Safehold. The last two became prime visiting because of what Tor and his great but motley crew discovered at Shadowmar Castle. And what an adventure each turned to be what with riddles, legendary monsters and hair raising narrow escapes the order of the day. Yes, once again author Jeffrey L Kohanek crafted a fine, immersive epic fantasy that compel the reader to engage in some nifty page turning. Enjoy.
Another great quest for Tor and crew! Full of danger, monsters, ancient ruins with numerous deathly traps. Did I mention dangerous? Oh Yes!!! I love the twists and turns, the fast pace, high tension and totally thrilling. Also, it was nice to get to know Tor, Koji, Borgli and Quell better. Love these characters. The author has given us another remarkable and clever story. This was a truly enjoyable and captivating read!
I didn't like this as much as the first book in the series and it's more in the 3.5 star range for me. This may sound strange, but it reads very slow, but is also rushed as well. I feel like it dragged on for a bit and then the stuff where you want it to be more "meaty" like the fight scenes are over and done with too quickly. It was a decent background builder though for some of the characters.
3 1/2 stars. More quests, danger, puzzles and traps. But it turns out there is much more going on than just loot in each of these quests. And that's when things get really interesting.
There were unexpected twists in this that kept it fresh. I really enjoyed it.
Great story full of the antics of a diverse group of treasure hunters. I love the adventures they get into and how they are always willing to stand up for each other and their banter.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
