Kailash Satyarthi (born Kailash Sharma; 11 January 1954) is an Indian children's rights activist. He is a Nobel Peace Prize recipient and founder of Bachpan Bachao Andolan (lit. Save Childhood Movement), the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, Global March Against Child Labour, and GoodWeave International.

To date, Kailash Satyarthi and his team at Bachpan Bachao Andolan have liberated more than 86,000 children in India from child labour, slavery and trafficking. In 1998, Satyarthi led the Global March against Child Labour, an 80,000 km long march across 103 countries to put forth a global demand against child labour. The movement became one of the largest social movements ever on behalf of exploited children.

Satyarthi was among Fortune magazine’s ‘World’s Greatest Leaders’ in 2015 and featured in LinkedIn’s Power Profiles List in 2017. His work has been recognized through various national and international honours and awards including the Nobel Peace Prize of 2014, which he shared with Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan.

किसी अंधकूप के काले, भयावह अंधकार में जब स्याह शून्यता से स्वत: ही किसी जुगनू का जन्म होता होगा, उसकी मद्धम जगमगाहट जब धीरे-धीरे हैवानियत के काले सायों से गुज़रती हुई मानवता और आशा की ओर उठती होगी, तब उसका आलोक "तुम पहले क्यों नहीं आए" जैसा है होता होगा।

संसार में तमाम अन्यायों के मध्य भी कहीं ना कहीं, न्याय, बसता है, जो इस संसार की जीवन जीने योग्य बनाऐ रखता है। मानवता में अटूट विश्वास स्थापित करतीं, १२ सत्यकथाएँ।


नमन है कैलाश सत्यार्थी जी को जो जाने कितनी ही बार अपनी जान जोखिम में डालकर भी नरक की अग्नि से, बचपन‌ के फूल बचाकर ले आए।
एक बात पूर्ण विश्वास के साथ कह सकता हूँ, आपको कई दफा, पढ़ते-पढ़ते, बीच में ही रूककर, आंँखों से ढुलकते आंँसुओं को पोछना पड़ेगा।

बचपन में घटित त्रासदियों का बहुत गहरा प्रभाव बच्चों पर पड़ता है। ऐसे में उन्हें समझने वाला व्यक्ति बहुत जरूरी है। अक्सर ऐसे बच्चों का विश्वास मानवता पर से ही उठ जाता है। उन्हें वापस सामान्य जीवन में लाने के लिए जरूरी है करुणा, ममता और अथाह निश्चल प्रेम। "क्यों रे, तू पैले कोणी आयो" - गुलामी और दासता के अलावा जिस बच्चे ने जीवन में कुछ ना देखा हो। एक अदने से केले का स्वाद जिसने कभी ना चखा हो। आलू-प्याज के अलावा जिसने कोई सब्जी ना देखी हो‌ जब शताब्दियों की गुलामी का गुबार तोड़ती, देवली की आवाज़- गुस्से, भोलेपन और धौंस के भाव में कहे "क्यों रे! तू पहले क्यों नहीं आया" तब आप वेदना की पराकाष्ठा पर खड़े होंगे।

It is a book that humanizes the struggles, tribulations and life of those who have been dehumanized by our so-called "civilized" society. This book is the stories of those on whose blood and sweat the development of our modern society depends but they hardly get anything in acknowledgement. On the other hand, in many cases they are treated worse than animals. I am talking about the stories of small children who were sold into slavery and bonded labour by the human greed.

These stories contain tales of superstition (boy being willing offered by family members for human sacrifice), exploitation, sexual abuse, physical and psychological abuse, inhumane conditions and long excruciating work-hours that small children had to endure at the hands of so-called "civilized" owners.

This is also a book of hope propelled by Nobel winner, Kailash Satyarthi and his team. It was heartening to know how the children who were once themselves rescued from child slavery became catalysts of freedom for other children. This book is a lesson in what it means to be human in a time when most humans are turning into machines.

ये क़िताब हमारे समाज में सालों चल रही दो दुनिया दिखाने के लिए महज आइना है। इंसान कितने क्रूर और बेरहमी हो सकते हैं, इसकी कल्पना भी नहीं की जा सकती। इस क़िताब में कैलाश सत्यार्थी और उनकी संस्था द्वारा बचाए गए 1.25 लाख बच्चों में से कुछ चुनिंदा बच्चों की कहानियां हैं। कई हालात जिसमें वो बच्चे रहे, अत्यन्त मार्मिक थे, और कुछ ऐसे जिन्हें पढ़ कर इंसानियत से विश्वास उठ जाए।

हालांकि, ये किताब साहित्यिक तौर पर बहुत मज़ेदार या एक प्रवाह में नहीं है, अपितु ये एक डायरी या जरनल के समान है।

इस क़िताब को पढ़ कर महसूस हुआ कि क्यों कैलाश सत्यार्थी नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार विजेता रहे हैं। जो काम ये पिछले 40 वर्षों से करते आ रहे हैं वो किसी एक इंसान के जीवन में करना अकल्पनीय है।

कैलाश सत्यार्थी का नाम शायद ज्यादातर लोग जानते ही होंगे। नोबेल शान्ति पुरस्कार से सम्मानित होने के बाद से उनके साथ साथ बचपन बचाओ आंदोलन को जानने वालों की संख्या भी बड़ी है। लेकिन संस्था के काम को और उसके प्रभाव को मैने कभी ठीक से नही समझा था। इस किताब को पड़ने के बाद मैं सत्यार्थी जी के सालों के परिश्रम और साहस को समझ पाया हूं। सत्ताईस साल की उम्र में पहली बार किसी बच्चे को बंधुआ मजदूरी से छुड़ा लेने के बाद, उन्होंने अपना जीवन इस काम के लिए दे दिया। किताब में बारह ऐसी कहानियां हैं। उन बच्चो की जो शायद अंधेरेपन में जिंदगी गुज़ार देते अगर उन्हे बचाया नहीं जाता तो। किताब पढ़ते वक्त मन में कई सवाल थे जो की शहर के प्रिविलेज में रहते हुए जहन का हिस्सा बन जाते हैं। ये सोच पाना भी मुश्किल होता है की कहीं किसी समय पर, इस तरह की घटना भी घटी होगी। ये ऐसा ही है जैसे शहर में रह कर हमे ये लगता है की जातिभेद खत्म हो चुका है। किताब में कहानी है ऐसे बच्चों की जिन्हे जबरन देह व्यापार में ढकेल दिया गया, जिन्हें एक कपड़े के लालच में अपने गांव से उठा कर कहीं दूर किसी सर्कस में काम पर लगा दिया गया जहां हर रात उनका शारीरिक शोषण होता रहा। ऐसे बच्चे जिन्हें चिमटे से जला दिया गया या फिर कुल्हाड़ी से सर पर मारा गया। लिखने के लिए बहुत कुछ है, पर अभी इतना ही काफी है। किताब पढ़ने से पहले इन सब बातों का ध्यान रखना जरूरी है (trigger warning)।

This book is an eye opener. Most of the time when we are living our life, which is mostly privileged, we get so indulged in it that we forget that there is a huge section of children, women, men who are suffering for various reasons. Slavery is one of the many reasons for their suffering.
There are different stories of children who are freed and given a new lease of life by Sir Kailash Satyarthi. Some of them couldn't make it.
While going through each story, I could feel like my heart being ripped open one bit at a time. I was shocked and terrified of the cruelty one human could pose on another. This book is not only the story of the struggle and survival of children who were made slaves and of freedom but it is also a story of inhumanity and the extent to which humans can go and harass another human being just for profit.
It is a very recommended book from my side. These children must be heard.

होटल/ढाबों/दुकानों आदि पर बालश्रम किसी ढाबे, होटल, रेस्तराँ में अगर आपको कोई बच्चा काम करता दिख जाए तो आप विनम्रतापूर्वक वहाँ खाने से मना कर दें। दुकान के मालिक को कहें कि आप उनकी दुकान पर तब तक नहीं आएँगे जब तक कि वह बच्चों से काम कराना बन्द नहीं करता। हो सकता है कि दुकानदार यह तर्क दे कि बच्चा स्वयं उनसे काम माँगने आया था, इसमें मेरा क्या दोष है? क़ानून 18 साल से कम उम्र के बच्चे को किसी भी प्रकार के कॉन्ट्रैक्ट या अनुबन्ध का पात्र नहीं मानता है। ऐसे में 18 साल से कम उम्र के बच्चे द्वारा दी गई किसी भी प्रकार की सहमति का कोई अर्थ नहीं है। इसलिए यह तर्क खोखला है।

बच्चों की ख़रीद-फ़रोख़्त करने वालों को कैसे पहचानें रेलवे स्टेशन, बस स्टैंड आदि जगहों पर आपको किसी व्यक्ति के साथ अलग-अलग उम्र के कई सारे बच्चे एक साथ दिखें तो सतर्क हो जाएँ, वह ट्रैफ़िकर हो सकता है।

12 अनुभवों के जरिए सत्यार्थी जी मनुष्य के स्याह पहलू को इस पुस्तक में लेकर आए हैं जिसमें सारी मनुष्य जाति शामिल है। ऐसी घटनाओं और परिस्थि��ियों की कल्पना करना मुश्किल होता है कि ऐसा हो सकता है परंतु यह भी सत्य है कि ये सब कुछ इसी समाज में हमारे इर्द गिर्द होता जा रहा है।
