Somewhere in the heart of New England a cosmic nightmare has entered our reality: A cosmic nightmare Melissa Dowd could well have stopped before it started. Driving with a death wish she heads for the interstate along which it resides, determined to rectify her cowardice. How many have died from her mistake? How many can she save?
Interstate is the first story in the series ‘The Roots Grow into the Earth,’ a collection of short cosmic horror stories.
Something otherworldly has entered our realm and Melissa could have prevented it. Now she must stop it before everyone, and everything, is destroyed.
This short story gives off very unsettling vibes. As you are reading, you are not really sure what is going on only that it's something strange. The atmosphere of the book is very well written. The bleakness of Melissa's journey is described in detail. The ending is bittersweet.
This story left me wondering so much about what led up to this point in time. It would be nice to have another story that tells the backstory of Melissa. Perhaps a series about her and her abilities.
Overall, this book was satisfying. It is reminiscent of classic horror stories. Check it out if you love gripping stories that involve magic, the end of the world, and atmospheric books.
