I'm not enamoured by her like my little brother and cousin are.
To me, she's nothing but a pain in the ass to tolerate at family occasions. But I figured I'd use her as my chick repellant whenever I have to endure a social dinner or at the club hanging with my teammates. Then I'll just drop her off at home when I'm done with her. Yeah, sure, she's got a nice ass and a fiery attitude that lights my wick sometimes, but I know I'd never fall for her. As far as I'm concerned, my little stepsister, Charlotte Grant, is out of bounds.
But then...who is Charlotte Grant really? A girl scorned by her past, with the trauma still branded on her face, harboring dark secrets. Bit by bit, her secrets are revealed, and the girl that I thought she was becomes someone entirely different.
The thing is...whether I like it or not, she's family, and when someone hurts a member of our family, they must pay with their life.
The Huntsmen Series is a dark, gritty, enemies to lovers, reverse harem romance series, meaning the FMC will have more than one love interest. The Main Characters are in their early 20's. Multiple POV. Ends on a cliffy.
Author's This series contains bullying, fighting, cussing, violence, murder, explicit sex scenes, and drug use.
3.5 I like the plot of these books, but the writing is honestly really bad and takes me out of the story. This does end on a cliffhanger and I don’t know if I’m going to continue.
This would have been 3 stars but the editing is nonexistent. I felt as though the author dictated the first book and I have a similar feeling with this one. There are words missing in multiple sentences and incorrect spellings of several words, but inconsistently.
Aside from that, I felt we lost the individuality of the characters in this book. The guys POVs all read the same and I had to keep reminding myself which POV it was.
Also there was no relationship development between Charlotte and Royce. Their smut scene was incredibly uncomfortable reading. I ended up skimming it because it was so forced, as though the author panicked that they hadn’t had their ‘moment’ yet, but none of the groundwork was there.
Charlotte was a complete doormat in this book, too. There was a moment where her fire came back and she tells Layne off and sets boundaries and the next page she’s back to being dickmatised.
I don’t feel like there’s any big reveals coming in the final book and I honestly don’t think I’ll be reading it.
DNF @ like the halfway mark because for some reason the percentage isn’t available on kindle ?? • DO THEY EVEN LIKE EACH OTHER?! this is 2/3 books and nobody even seems to genuinely like each other besides wanting to fuck. it’s just not for me
This series continues to be rather addicting. And I'm glad we are finally getting some answers to the many questions posed in Book 1.
The editing issues aren't quite as bad as the first book but there are still some notable issues. So for people with a lower tolerance for that sort of thing, this series is not for you.
On another note, I'm low-key rolling my eyes at the guys saying they need to keep Charlotte close to protect her. Especially with how this book ended, because lo and behold they once again failed to protect her.
Meh starting to decrease in stars as we processs from book to book. FMC is TSTL and supposedly has great kickboxing skill but only ever kicks guys in balls only, ONLY. Nothing else, 1+1 is not adding up here…
If you enjoy any of the following- Kinky Spice, reverse harem, mystery, enemy to lover, step-brothers, this book is for you. This is book 2 in the series.
2.5 The fact that this is the second book and we still know nothing is ridiculous. The mystery is way to drawn out and this book is filled with a whole lot of nothing and I was bored. There was a serious lack of relationship development between Char and the guys. Daz was fine but then he said Char’s not the prettiest girl and he doesn’t like her hair in his pov which I am not here for, Layne turns into a bit of an asshole, Royce is still a fucking prick for no reason and Char is a doormat. Definitely won’t be continuing.
Whoa. I didn’t think the editing could be worse than the first book, but I was wrong. I would say almost every page had multiple errors (spelling, grammar, missing words). And when I saw multiple, I mean like 3…4…5, mistakes on nearly every page. Obvious mistakes. Almost as if someone just spoke their thoughts into an Alexa or Siri to “write” a book and then nobody went through to proofread.
“It’s ok to drop your guard sometimes, Char. We’ll catch you if you fall.” - Daz
Have you ever read a first book in a series that was so good you were counting down the days until the next one only to be severely disappointed? That’s what happened with Fracture. I almost didn’t write a review because I was so dissatisfied. The series is awesome. All the yummy parts of a dark RH romance are there. Yet somehow the book fell short. It’s like there was a wide open goal with no goalie and Mulholland just missed. The story was too rushed and there were so many grammatical errors it was super distracting.
Fracture begins were Scorn ends with Charlie waking up after being attacked in the Hunstman house. Daz and Layne sweetly help her recover. Once Charlie is back on campus Royce decides to use Charlie as a chick repellent. He just wants to focus on football and be left alone by the girls on campus so he forces Charlie to accompany him to various social events. Daz and Charlie’s relationship grows and they have some hot study dates and Layne remains her fierce protector.
If only Charlie just had to worry about school and her boys. Someone is after her and blackmailing her stepfather Robert Huntsman. More secrets than answers are revealed. So the big question is, who is the villain? And will the boys be able to protect Charlie?
The book ends on a cliffhanger and all issues aside, I’ll still read the next book, Claim. I have too many questions I need answered and while this book wasn’t as good as Scorn, it still has some good spice and great characters.
Have you read Fracture? If so, what are your thoughts? And what did you think of Charlie and Royce’s hook up?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is the 2nd installment to the Huntsmen series and my hopes of the second book being better is dashed. What I have read back to back in these two books should have been in one book, easily. The breadcrumbing is annoying, to say the least, but what is worse here is the lack of editing. The missing punctuation, or punctuation in the wrong areas. Or missing words. I let it slide in book one but can't look past it now.
The brothers and Charlotte had the potential to be utter fire in the veins but due to the lack of proper storytelling and relationship development, it is just a sizzle compared to the roar we would hope for and need. And the afterthought of Royce and Charlotte? That was a complete disappointment.
For a family that has power and money they sure lack the common sense to get Private investigators in place to dig deeper into the past or for that matter professionals who track IT equipment. The holes in this story are sinkholes. I think, overall, the premise of this story had so much potential but the execution needed more.
Will I read the final installment? Yes but only because it's free on KU. I have ideas who the instigator in all this was and have pretty well thought so from book 1 so let's see if I'm right.
I will read the next one because I want to know if my assumptions are correct but good lorde, how can you publish something you have not re-read and edit. There's a lot of grammar errors that could have been easily.
I have read my share of wealthy college romances but usually the heroes are more put together. Here they smoke weed a lot and call each other "dude" and "bro". Not really my thing. Charlotte lost her spark. She doesn't seem to care about anything but the guys even if they treat her badly. She doesn't care about the murder, her mother, her friends. Royce is probably the worst and I don't even get why he is so angry and rude? He has a fine relationship with his family, he has friends, his brothers. So what the hell. I hate how they guys talk about Charlotte's looks, how she is not the prettiest, how her hair looks bad, how her scar looks bad. What's the point but to make her feel bad and they say they like her?!
The plot goes in circle, this book gives absolutely no answer. Just plain filler.
I gave five stars because I was engrossed in the story, but the ending confused me. It is a cliffhanger, but so much was left unanswered. The plot grew, but the story seemed to shine a spotlight on just the main characters (Heroes and Heroine), with the other secondary characters (from the first book) falling by the wayside. I was so engrossed because I believed that we were building to some massive twist... then it ended. Perhaps all will be answered in the third book, but that one's description on Amazon says it ends on a cliffy too.
The one thing that can be said for this book is the heat did not dry up. You will be as in love with the Heroes as in the first novel, but I don't know. I have more questions than I did after the first novel's end. **I will edit this if I read the third book in the series and get some answers.**
DESCRIPTION: Charlotte has started love bringing at Addington University with her “Step Brothers” She doesn’t know if she wants to go back to New Zealand, she still thinks about it, but is also wanting to stay. The boys force her to come home for the weekend while they go hunting with their dad. While they are gone, someone breaks into the Huntsman home and knocks Charlotte out with a note that says “LIAR” on it. From here things start to get strange and the boys and her stepdad want to keep her safe.
MY THOUGHTS: Just like book 1, this book leaves you on a cliffhanger. The book was good. There are some grammar errors in it, but if you can get past that the book is good. It’s funny, I love the relationship that Char has with all three boys. They are all so different, that you can’t help but love them all.
I really enjoyed this book, I couldn't put it down and I can't wait for the next book. All three boys have distinctive personalities and all are alluring in their own right. I loved the tough main female character, she runs, kickboxing, knife carrying badass. The main reason I liked this book was the murder mystery, the lies, the plot, it kept me turning pages and staying up past my bed time. I'm fine with it ending in a cliff hanger, I just want lots more books in this series. The only downside was the editing and proof reading, which I suggest the author pay someone else to do for them before releasing the book! This didn't take away how good the story was and I still highly recommend if you are into this trope 😁
I didn't much like the FMC or the other characters. The story was okay however it is overshadowed by the fact that there is massive, and I mean massive, character assassination, what I mean by that is the whole character for the FMC was an oxymoron approach. She wanted to be treated as someone who is capable of defending themselves but she went along with whatever they wanted. She never opposed any of the ideas and also they never included or was ever truthfully, they keep referencing past trauma but never did they even mention therapy as she acts like someone unencumbered by a traumatic past. She is weary of men but she follows blindly, a fighter that can only fight with a weapon. Overall there are too many conflicting ideas for this book to be considered good.
After I read the first book, I was hesitant to read the next in the series. I had found that the book was super slow paced, but I ws interested enough about how Charlotte would end up with the 3 stepbrothers as she only seemed to be interested in Layne romantically. Yeah, she thought Daz was hot and liked him enough, but hated Royce, so I wanted to figure out how that was going to change. The cliffhanger intrigued me a bit, but I was somewhat disappointed to find out what really happened. This book was much more interesting, though, as we find out a bit more of Charlotte's and Laynes's past and find out Robert is a creeper after all. So, all in all, I'm glad I stuck through with these books and am looking forward to the next one.
Dude I tried. I don’t even care about the editing problems I DNFd because the FMC is about as useful as her mother and I’m pretty sure the mother’s been roofied. How is Royce even a character? Like what does he even bring to the story? Nothing but douchbaggery. Daz is the only likeable one and I don’t even like him that much. I liked lanes in the first book but the switch up in this book isn’t necessary. The mother’s a doormat but by choice from what she tells the FMC. The FMC is just a doormat who makes “snarky” comments when the guys treat her terribly and that’s supposed to make us think she has a back bone 🙄
Char is spunky, jealous, loving, smart, helpful.. she is falling for three dangerous possessive men.. Layne, Daz, Royce… they won’t let her date.. they get jealous if she talks to others guys… she was injured during a break-in.. it took time to heal.. she slowly fell for two of her three men… Layne and Daz are sweet, overprotective men.. Daz really cares for Char and wants to be the best for Char.. Layne sees himself in Char and it terrifies and exhilarates him.. he is falling in love with her…
Charlotte is annoying in this book. Wants to know all of the boys secrets but isn’t willing to tell them anything about her past! She shrills and shouts everything and is really starting to get on my nerves.
I still love Layne and Daz is growing on me. The secrets and Mia communication trope is being thrown in there for good measure which is always a way to stretch a story. I will finish the series but it’s annoying it’s being stretched so far when in theory it could have been finished in two books rather then 3.
The characters and plot are intriguing, but execution is poor. So many errors in the words, missing words, even how she writes the time of day! In this one we get the guys POV, which honestly makes them unattractive at times. Royce was the mysterious one before but here with his POV, he comes across as very unattractive with what he is thinking. There is a lot in here that should be steamy and sexy but the guys come across as not that at all in the ways they think about her, the things they say and with what they do. I’m uncertain if I’ll keep going.
Charlotte, Layne, Royce, and Dalzell are stepbrothers and stepsisters. Her face is scared on the left side of her face by her first stepfather. Her current stepfather and stepbrothers found videos of her being younger recorded without her knowledge. Someone wants to hurt Charlotte because of a lie her family told so they are going to make her pay for what her family covered up. During the party, she went missing.
Kindle. I like the all powerful control trope in first book but was lost as story continued. A bit too childish at parts for me. Lost my interest about halfway through, simply found myself a bit bored.
Some problems with the writing and errors made maybe could use another revision/proof read. Weak character and world building. Felt some events or people included didn’t add to plot development - unneeded. Overall an alright read.
I still have no clue what is going on. Seriously the huntsmen are a bit messed up. You have no clue who the bad guy is. Hopefully we get real answers with book 3. Especially with that cliffhanger.
YOU'RE SERIOUSLY GOING TO LEAVE ME ON A CLIFFHANGER LIKE THAT?!
I was shocked at how much I enjoyed Scorn given the setting, typically I prefer my fantasy to get as far from reality as possible. But this taboo series has my full attention. After the events of the first book, I was wondering where the Huntsmen would go from there but apparently their little secret is only one of their concerns when an outsider casts a dark shadow over their already strained family unit. Naturally the boys alpha out acting first without consulting Char and it's never going to turn out well. The story and characters are well developed and keep the pace moving, the banter is perfection and the spice is taboo as you would expect after Scorn. July needs to get here faster because I need Claim NOW.
It desperately needs an editorial rewrite. The characters were good, the plot was interesting, and there was plenty of steam. If it's re released with edits, it would easily be 5 stars.
It is so slow…I love it but not love it at the sane time.. I believe that there were things that should’ve been deleted because they are just a waste of time and words..a lot if detailed things should have been gone..,
It Finally happens and I’m glad it ended how it did. It leaves many questions as to what happened and who the ‘HER’ is. Really to dive into book 3 to see what happens with Charlotte.
have mixed feelings about this one but surely this book needs a lot of editing. I don't necessarily dislike it but I also don't like it enough to immediately go and read book 3.
Book 1 had so much potential that made me disappointed with this 2nd book.
Still enjoying this series with growing relationships between main characters and some more revelations in the plot. So curious to see how it all ends that racing to next book. Cliffhanger was just cruel!
