In this issue, we decided to take a closer look at mysticism and ecumenism in different spiritual “God Hidden, Whereabouts Unknown,” is the second part of an article on the kabbalistic concept of tzimtzum published in our Winter-Spring issue; “Invitation to the Mystery” gives Father Thomas Keating’s unique perspective on mysticism in Christianity; likewise, “The Direct Experience of Reality” is Swami Atmarupananda of the Ramakrishna Order’s look at mystical experience through the lens of Vedanta; this is followed by part two of “Torah and Dharma,” a dialogue between Reb Zalman and Roshi Bernie Glassman in which they discuss discursive meditation in their respective traditions; “Paradigms of Ecumenism as a Spiritual Practice” contains two interviews I did with this issue’s contributors Father Thomas Keating and Swami Atmarupananda on the art of interspiritual dialogue (originally published in Spectrum, now including the introduction attached to them in Journal of Ecumenical Studies, Vol. 48; No. 1, Winter 2008); this is followed by a review of the book, The Common An Experience of Interreligious Dialogue by Siobhán Houston; and a book notice for Siobhán Houston’s Invoking Mary Magdalene—Accessing the Wisdom of the Divine Feminine. As a supplement to the print edition, we have added my own “Liberative Technique” from the short-lived ecumenical journal Rimay (2000), intended for the original Spectrum on-line issue, but whose revision was not completed in time.
