Tis the season to be courting!
There's precisely three and a half weeks until Christmas Day, and Imogen Abernethy is turning her back on the ton. Forever.
Her lacklustre experiences at this year's marriage mart have forced her to conclude that though she'd secretly love her own fairy tale ending, it's never going to happen.
And with a looming Christmas deadline to pay off her family's extraordinary debt - acquired no thanks to the expense of her failed season - there's nothing for it, Imogen must get a (whisper it) job. It's the only way to save their home, save her beloved aunts from debtor's prison, and save Christmas. But in order to do so she'll need someone to vouch for her good name, and introduce her to potential employers . . .
Rafe Holloway, Duke of Campion, is dealing with a impossible deadline of his own. When his bride-to-be chooses to marry someone else, Rafe, a man with a desperate family secret, has no choice but to look for another to wed - by Christmas. With no time - or inclination - for romance, he needs to find a sensible applicant who can see the merit of a loveless match with a duke.
When she secretly desires a fairy tale romance, but he absolutely does not, could they still be each other's perfect gift this Christmas?

A Duke For Christmas is an enjoyable young adult historical romance by Jenni Fletcher. Imogen Abernethy was devastated when she realised the debt her aunts were in caused by her involvement in the London Season. For Imogen Abernethy to get a job to pay her family debt, she needs someone to vouch for her, and on the way, she meets Rafe Holloway, the Duke of Campion. The readers of Duke For Christmas will continue to follow Imogen Abernethy and Rafe Holloway to discover what happens.
A Duke For Christmas is the first book I read by Jenni Fletcher, and I really enjoyed it. I engaged with the story and the characters from the first page. I love Jenni Fletcher's portrayal of her characters and how they intertwine throughout this book. A Duke For Christmas is well-written and researched. I like Jenni Fletcher's description of A Duke For Christmas settings, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.
A Duke For Christmas offers a fascinating glimpse into life in eighteenth-century London, particularly during the London Season, a significant social event of the time. This historical context adds depth and richness to the story, making it a must-read for Young adult historical fiction fans.
Just what I needed! A historic romance set at Christmas with lots of snow. I was looking for a festive book to read and was in the mood for a bit of romance and this fit the brief. I really enjoyed it, almost didn’t want it to end. I like Jenni’s style of writing and the characters she creates. It’s the second book I’ve read of hers and I’m looking forward to reading more.
Nothing says Christmas like a bout of covid, which means I needed something funny, romantic and Christmassy to take my mind of carols not sung, parties not attended and pine trees unsmelled (thanks covid, who wants to taste and smell anyway?). Luckily the third in Jenni Fletcher's witty Regency series was exactly the tonic I needed and I devoured it in one sitting!
Imogen's Season has been a disaster. She is too tall, her feet are too big and she has no fortune. Worse, her wallflower months have left her beloved aunts in terrible debt, so there's only one thing to do: get a job. And at least her Season didn't include a cancelled-at-the-last minute wedding like the Duke of Campion, jilted by her best friend for his own half-brother. Yet it is the cold, austere Duke who comes to her rescue after she encounters him drunk in the snow, arranging a temporary job as companion to his mother, and offering her a more permanant role as his wife, as he would really like to be engaged by Christmas and not endure another Season. Sadly Imogen has no intention of marrying for money alone (although it would solve her financial problems) but she accepts the job gratefully and offers to help him find a suitable bride in return.
Imogen and Rafe are an adorable couple with a fantastic spark between them from the first, some gorgeous slow burn heat and a lot of fun banter. Add in Imogen's fabulous aunt, Rafe's equally fabulous mother and A Duke for Christmas adds up a very satisfying read indeed. Highly recommended.
I loved this story. The two main characters danced around one another, oblivious of their feelings. I liked the Duchess character, with the excuse to prepare Imogen for the job of governess, she teaches her how to be the new duchess improving in the meanwhile Imogen's self-esteem that was very low. The two "aunts" were the humour side of this story, they took in Imogen and her brother in when orphaned and loved them, so much that they put themselves in debt to launch Imogen in the Society. Of course there are villains, yes, more than one, and they had their penance at the end.
The duke Rafe Holloway is jilted at the altar by Imogen Abernethy's friend Caroline Foyle. With being blackmailed Rafe is running out of time to secure his fortune and title. He needs to marry quickly to sire an heir to beat the blackmailer.
Imogen and her two aunts are on the brink of bankruptcy. Imogen sets herself the task of getting a job as a governess to help their financial worries. On her way to seek employment, Imogen meets her friends ex-fiancè, Lord Rafe, and he is inebriated. They end up having a good talk after he sobers up and they end up telling each other of their dilemmas. Imogen and Rafe become acquaintances over a few days and he suggests his mother would be a good person to help her find work.
I was in the mood for a Christmas romance story, and I spotted this from the author's social media. I am glad I decided to purchase it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Imogen and Rafe's romance is a slow burn, told at a good pace throughout the book. The story had a good Christmas and winter vibe throughout. Imogen was an interesting heroine with an enjoyment of botany. She got this love of plants from her aunties. The two aunts helped make this story so enjoyable. Such likeable two characters. I shall definitely be getting a physical copy of this book. A re-read for sure.
