Wow! What a great ending to this trilogy. First of all, the colonial/revolutionary period is my favorite genre to read and Patricia Potter is one of my favorite authors! This novel involves John Patrick Sutherland, son of Ian and Fancy Sutherland (from the second novel) and Annette Carrey. John has no love for the British especially after having been impressed by the British Navy several years earlier. John escaped and now serves Washington as an American privateer. His ship, Star Rider, is attacked and sunk by the British Navy in the Delaware River near Philadelphia. He has been injured and his second in command, Ivy, has to find Johns older brother, Noel, a physician and Tory sympathizer. Noel tends his wounds and has to hide him until he is well enough to leave. Noel decides to hide John in plain sight with friends Annette Carey and her aunt who run a hospital for British soldiers out of their home. Annette is a Tory especially after a bad group of Patriot rebels tarred and feathered her father. Noel and John do not make it known to Annette that John is an American privateer supporting the Patriot cause. During this period, you do not know who are friends and who are enemies. They do all they can to protect John’s identity and also to protect Annette and her family from British harassing. Things do not go as planned and Annette finds out who John really is! She feels betrayed and is beyond angry! John has to make decisions fast and for all involved. Now the real adventure begins!

I'm not usually into this type of novel, but this one is amazing. I could barely put it down.

It wasn't only about some ridiculous love affair it was about the bonds of family and friendship. Maybe because I love "bromances" so much, I just adored the relationship between John and Noel, John and Ivy, and Noel and Malcomb.

It didn't hurt that the way Annette thought is basically the way I think in my own head. Turning an idea over and over. Doubting herself and then doubting her doubt, I empathized with her feelings.

I truly can't say enough about it, but I know I'm going to look out for Patricia Potter's other books.
