Bad-girl socialite Rachel Winston finds herself shipped off to the ever-so-posh Clearwater Springs Resort...for thirty days of community service as a maid! But her clean new start is already taking her in a bad direction thanks to her yummy new boss, Marc Strauss, who isn't keen on catering to pampered princesses.
Marc had only meant to gain some much needed publicity, but the minute he sees the stunning socialite, he knows he'll have a hard time keeping his hands off her. But a hot fling could easily turn into a major mess for both of them.
Then again, what's a little "mess" every now and then...
An Oregon native, Lori Borrill moved to the San Francisco Bay Area just out of high school and has been a transplant Californian ever since. Her weekdays are spent at the insurance company where's she's been employed as a data analyst for over twenty years. The bulk of her evenings are spent at the Little League fields cheering on her son.
Lori started writing in June of 2004 after her husband left his job to pursue his dream of owning a business. Not only did the move help ease their hectic schedules, but he became a solid example that those dreams that seem impossible can often come true. She proved that point herself exactly two years later when Kathryn Lye called to tell her she'd sold to the Harlequin Blaze line.
Lori claims it was the eHarlequin.com community that prompted her to write her first novel. "After reading countless romances, I saw the Web address on a book and decided to check it out," she says. "At the time, I was just looking for writer's guidelines, but the moment I clicked into the Learn To Write forum, I was amazed by the volume of information available to aspiring writers. They really came across like they wanted me to try this." Since then, she's been an active member of the eHarlequin.com community, finding all of her closest writing friends through the site. "What propelled me from novice to published author were the people I've met through the Harlequin boards," she says. "I've made some treasured friendships with talented authors who not only helped me hone the craft, but have become a system of support I can't imagine writing without."
Marc Strauss was not happy when he learned that his business partner and brother, Brett, had agreed to let socialite Rachel Winston do her community service at their posh resort. The last thing they needed was the spoiled star causing problems at their hotel. Rachel has been sentenced by a judge to one month working as a hotel maid. She has never changed a bed or cleaned a bathroom in her life. Thinking she can convince the hot hotel manager into giving her a break, Rachel is sadly mistaken. Marc may be attracted to her, but he isn't ready to lose his job over her.
This was a quick and enjoyable read. Rachel starts out arriving at the hotel with an entourage, acting like the whole situation is a joke. Marc sets her straight right away and she actually takes his advice. She sends her friends and assistant home and actually works with the other maids to learn what they need to do. Marc is a workaholic. He sometimes spends twelve hour days making sure everything is getting done. Rachel convinces him that he needs to take some time for himself and enjoy his life. My rating: 4 Stars.
"Indiscretions" surprised me on the level of the story involved inbetween the steamy scenes of the hero and heroine. I didn't think I'd sympathize with Rachel Winston at first because she seemed like a carbon copy of many "celebrities gone awry" and would likely end up not owning up to her mistakes. However, the story proved me wrong and I actually grew to sympathize with her over the course of the story. She's sentenced to work at a resort for thirty days of community service (after losing her temper, chucking a phone and hurting someone in the process). In starting her service project, she happens to fall for her rather workaholic, no-nonsense boss Marc Strauss. The chemistry between them is very believable, and I found the writing supported both characters and their respective interactions very well. Both characters end up growing and discovering aspects of themselves as their relationship goes forth. Granted, the story somewhat ties up a little neater than I expected, but I believed it, and loved that Marc and Rachel were both able to own up to their mistakes in the end. I did feel a little underwhelmed by the supporting characters, but since the hero and heroine were so strongly asserted, I was still able to enjoy it for what it offered.
ni salah satu Blaze yang gw suka...ceritanya tentang soSIALita yang lagi ketiban sial dihukum kerja ama dinas sosial jadi pembokat karena dia ngelakuin kesalahan...Rachel Winston namanya..cantik,tajir,seksi,manja yah pokoknya kek macem Paris Hilton gitu dah lengkap dengan skandal2nya...
suatu hari saking keselnya baca berita gosip tentang dirinya di tabloid,si Rachel ini ngelempar hapenya (seettt dah hape dilempar) keluar jendela...nah apesnya tu hape nyangsang di jidat pelayan hotel yang apesnya(lagi) berada di tempat dan waktu yang salah ampe bisa ketimpuk ama tu hape...akibatnya tak dianya tak diduga tu pelayan hotel langsung semaput dan gegar otak ringan...nah gara2 itu akhirnya si Rachel dihukum kerja jadi pelayan hotel ama dinas sosial...
trusss dipilihlah suatu hotel nun jauh disana buat dijadiin tempat si Rachel kerja selama 30 hari...so pasti si Rachel bawa segala macem perlengkapan beserta asisten pribadi macem anggota DPR...
A so so story with a heroine that took some getting used to. The story grew on me over time, but never truly felt comfortable as a story for me.
Rachel comes across as a very spoiled woman, which she was supposed to be, but the original reason she changes - Mark lecturing her in his office - doesn't 'feel' like enough to tip her over into a new path. It took a little to suspend disbelief that this completely and utterly pampered brat of a woman would change just because someone she kinda fancies gives her a lecture.
