This book starts with a Big Misunderstanding, not one of my favorite plot devices, but I ended up liking it.

In this story, the Big Misunderstanding is a case of mistaken identity. Jake Wallace, a paramedic who works with Chicago FD's 4th Battalion, had agreed to be one of the bachelors to be auctioned in a charity event. Unfortunately - or fortunately, if you consider how things worked out for him in the end - the graphic designer company that was responsible for making the programs showcasing the bachelors' photos and bios had a mishap and and switched Jake's bio with another bachelor who was a kind of a gigolo. Honestly, it was hard to believe that no one noticed that mistake - if I were Jake, I'd be at least interested in having a look at the program - but I went along with it. I guess I have a higher tolerance for the Big Misunderstanding plot when it's used to bring the H/h together and not the other way around.

Maddy Turner, who had a very dysfunctional family and, as a consequence, was wary of love, was at the auction with the sole purpose of bidding on Bachelor #19, who happened to be Jake due to the mix-up in the charity's program. Not that she wanted a date with him or anything, she just wanted to prevent her stepmother from cheating on her father with the "gigolo" bachelor. Naturally, Maddy's idea to ditch Jake after "winning" him went up in smoke the moment he laid eyes on her. He wanted to follow through with the date - and more, if she was willing. And so they went, and the case of the mistaken identity kept going on... Even after Jake finally discovered that Maddy thought he was a gigolo! Silly man, didn't he know that lying to her could only lead to disaster?

Anyway, this was a quick enjoyable read and even though I didn't love it to death, I liked this author's writing and I'm curious enough to want to know what happened to the "gigolo" bachelor who had his bio switched with Jake's, so I'll have to read Heated Rush, the next book in this miniseries.

There is only one word that comes to mind (now, immediately after having read this story) - sweet. Oh, and throw aww in front of it.

I don't think the author wanted people to describe this story along the "sweet" lines, but that's juts how I feel about it.
Yeah, it had a few hot scenes (nothing extraordinary, mind you), but what truly drew me in, was the depth to the story, which is rather unusual for a Blaze book (at least for those I've read so far).

The characters were wonderful, nicely developped from the scumbag ex with his little cameo to the hunky, sweet, all-American EMT hero. The heroine was, at the first glance, his complete opposite, but once he managed to get her out of her ice-princess shell, you could see they were made for each other. And through their romance, through all Jake taught Maddy, the reader as well learned a little lesson.

Yeah, luckily there was some depth to the whole thing to distract me from the utterly silly, and easily amended, misunderstanding that spurned everything into action. And the budding relationship between the hero and heroine, along with her completely dysfunctional family, and small glimpses into the upper crust of the society, made me spent a couple of pleasurable hours in the company of this sweet, sexy, poignant little story.

Which is yet another lesson in itself - not every Harlequin freebie is bad. ;)

I absolutely LOVED this book. The second I started it I was completely hooked. I didn't like how late in the book the big mistake was revealed, but by the end it didn't make much of a difference.

Entretenida

Argumento:

For a FREE Harlequin Blaze book, I actually really liked this one! Although the heroine has some serious TSTL moments, I adore the hero. It was actually pretty entertaining to read how our heroine, Maddy thought that Jake was a gigolo. LOL! That's the dude in the next book, guys. Apparently, their bios got switched up or something during a mix-up in the agency planning out their names... so yeah. There's a huge misunderstanding and well, Maddy doesn't find out until the end. The author doesn't make it too complicated so I guess I'm happy for that.

Jake Wallace is attending this charity where he's auctioned off as a date to one of the rich ladies in Chicago. If you think about it, it's kind of amusing. Haha! I mean who does these things? Anyway, he sees Maddy and it's attraction at first sight. He wants her. Now, I don't blame for thinking that Jake was a gigolo. According to her, he is seriously one hunk of gorgeous. *Shrugs* But overall, he's just a paramedic with a blue collar family background. Maddy Turner on the other hand, lives a completely different life from Jake. She works at her family's bank and she's really good at it. She also comes from a pretty rich family background so..

The entire reason why Maddy is even at the auction in the first place is because her sister, Tabby thought that their stepmother was cheating on her father. Kind of ridiculous, but hey it works. Maddy's supposed to buy the guy that her mother is bidding on and look! It turns out to be Jake. ;) Things actually start from there and while Maddy firmly believes that Jake is a gigolo... she's slowly starting to fall in love with him without even realizing it. His personality is just so sweet and loveable! Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I'm actually really interested to find out what exactly happened to Sean in Heated Rush. 4/5 stars.

Thanks to a mix up at the auction where Maddy Turner was trying to stop her step-mother from cheating on her father, she mistakes Jack Wallace as a male play thing.

With her job done, Maddy tries to leave, but Jack catches up to her and insists on taking her on the date. Despite her better judgement since she knows his profession and can imagine him sweet talking all the women, Maddy can't help herself from enjoying Jack's company.

Although he's gotten some weird vibes from Maddy, it takes Maddy offering to hire him exclusively that he finds out what she thinks he is. With Maddy protecting herself behind a army fortress, he's afraid she won't keep seeing him if she learns the truth. So he agrees to let her 'buy' him.

It's before her sisters wedding rehearsal that he comes clean. Surprisingly she's pretty calm about it but is interrupted by her sister before they finish there talk. During the rehearsal, their father has a heart attack and while recovering helps Maddy accept her feelings for Jack and take a risk.

Finding him at the fire station, they continue where they left off.

This is another of the free e-Harlequins I got about a year ago. It's a Blaze, which means there's going to be hot sex and plenty of it. Which is fine with me; it's all about knowing what to expect, going in (so to speak).

This book takes Highly Improbable Circumstances, combines them with a Big Misunderstanding, adds a generous dollop of Human-Physics-Defying Sexual Antics, and garnishes with a pinch of Predictable Crisis Point to arrive at the Happily Ever After. Some of the writing is a bit rough, but generally speaking it's an undemanding read, and the lead couple are pretty decent characters, if forgettable.

Maddy Turner is the younger of uber-rich Jason Turner's daughters. When the older daughter tells Maddy that their newest stepmother plans on cheating on their father by buying a male escort at the charity auction, it's up to Maddy to buy him out from under her step mother and save the day. Jake Wallace is an EMT whose bio was switched with a male escort's for the auction. I don't want to spoil it for you but Jake and Maddy have a lot of sex and fall in love. It's a Blaze book - what did you think was going to happen?

An enjoyable sexy romance. It is such a break to read this genre once in a while and just relax and not be engaged in deep thoughts about the story. The plot may be easy and full of romantic love scenes but it is just as rich in life lessons as any other bestseller or classic. This is just the first in the series of this very romantic stories about switched identities, and I'm really tempted to buy the sequel.

This story centers around a classic case of mistaken identity - the all-American, hunk of burnin' love that is Jake is mistaken by the female lead for a jaded gigolo on the auction block. What follows is hot sex and sweet romance. Gotta love it.

Well, alur ceritanya lumayan sih utk ukuran Harlequin, tapi lamban di awal. Dan adegan syur-syur nya terlalu detil dan kelamaan hahaha.... slow burn banget dah. Karakter tokoh-tokohnya lumayan sih cuma ya mereka jelas physical attraction ketimbang kecocokan yg lain. Maddy jelas sulit utk melakukan relationship setelah dikhianati mantan pacarnya.

This was a recommendation from Blaze author Regina Kyle and I really enjoyed it. Maddy is bidding on the secret gigolo at a bachelor auction to prevent her step-mother getting him and stepping out on her dad. It cost her a fortune but she can afford it.

Jake Wallace is an everyday guy in Emergency Services. He can't figure out why everyone was so keen to bid up on him but hey, it's for charity. Never mind the little mix-up in the catalogue.

Even though the basic premise is a misunderstanding (Okay...Wrong Bed Series...no real surprises there) it didn't bother me too much. The characters were great and the chemistry believable. An enjoyable read.

This was my first Harlequin Blaze. Actually, this was my first category romance. And to be honest, I had doubts about the cover, the story, the sex and pretty much everything about this book going into it. Not to be insulting, but there can be a bit of a stereotype about the Harlequin series. I was wrong. Slow Hands is a fast, fun, flirty read.

The heroine was generally likable (Not TSTL at all) and her motivation was easy enough to follow. After watching--and experiencing--failures in love, wealthy heiress and businesswoman, Maddy Turner is afraid to trust in love--and herself--again. However, hunky hero, paramedic Jake Wallace knows that what he feels for Maddy is real and sets out to convince her to take a chance on love again. Just add in a little mistaken gigglo action and you've got the plot of Slow Hands.

Straightforward plot about mistaken identities, the perils of love in High Society, and learning to trust again. Was it a little cheesy? Yeah, it was. But Kelly includes moments of clever humor and some really steamy scenes to make up for the slightly inane plot-line. A good read. I will probably read the others in The Wrong Bead: Again and Again series.

Sadly, I had forgotten to add a review to this read. Anyway, thankfully, I still remember what this was about and how I felt about it.

3.5 stars

Rich curvy (not fat) brunette heroine buys a bachelor at a charity fundraiser thinking he's the gigolo her step-mother is planning to cheat with. Tall hunky paramedic bachelor #19 is mistaken to be supposed gigolo, but is immediately taken with heroine and pursues her fervently. Lots of other random drama, including the heroine's emotional unavailability, the hero's lying about his true identity, the heroine's sister's wedding, and the heroine's supposedly open hearted lovable fool of a father.

The heroine was somewhat likeable despite her issues. The hero was kinda nice in the book, but if I ever met him in real life, he would freak me out. And, the situation was kinda implausible, especially since the hero was such an All-American boy. But it provided the type of mindless enjoyment that everyone needs every once in awhile.

My biggest pet peeve was the reference to all the skinny blonde people who paraded through the heroine's life. Come on, what have we learned about stereotypes and discrimination? I can understand not fitting in with all the other women, physically (though, what about the skinny brunettes? or the squishier blondes?), but to write them all off as cold-heart b!tches merely because of their looks and station...

Anyway, overall, it was a pleasant read. I got it for free, so for that, it was superb. Sappy, yes, but most of us end up enjoying that any how.

Cute little love story, nothing spectacular. Maddy comes from a family that seemingly can't stay in love. Sure they can all fall in love over and over, but it always ends badly. So she has built walls around herself and calls herself an ice princess. It doesn't help that her ex cheated on her.

Jake is an EMT who is offered up to do a charity auction. And he's the one being auctioned off! Too bad the women who created the bio's for the men screwed his up. They switched his bio with another man's who happened to be a gigolo.

Maddy goes to the auction to buy the gigolo she thinks her stepmother will be bidding on. Instead of the gigolo she gets Jake. They have a great night together, and she decides to offer him a deal. She will pay him for a month's worth of service, but with the exception that he can't service other women. Jake has to think about whether he wants to allow Maddy to keep thinking that he is a gigolo, because otherwise she won't risk her heart if she thinks he's just a man who's interested in her. Can they work it out?

It was definitely a cute story, but there were a lot of characters thrown in with their own separate stories that made the overall plot a tad confusing. But I liked Maddy's character and thought that the ending was interesting but predictable. I flew through this one, it was a good pick me up and a good book to read in between some of my heavier books. But don't go in expecting a literary masterpiece.

This happened to be my first book by Leslie Kelly and I actually enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading more of this series in the future.

Mandy Turner is not only a strong business woman but unlucky in the love department. Her older sister, Tabitha, doesn't want her fathers new wife to cheat on him, so she ends up with this master plan for Mandy to buy the guy her stepmother was supposed to buy at this charity bachelor auction. Little does Mandy know that her desires and heart will be thrown for a loop.

Jake Wallace is just a simple paramedic that is helping his chiefs wife with auctioning off himself to the highest bidder for the children fund. While backstage he sees Mandy and is utterly bewildered by her. Now can Jake bring down the walls that Mandy has put up or is he giving up the woman he has longed for..

It's an overly short book but interesting it was. It was a breath of fresh air to read about something totally different then what I am used to reading about. I loved that Mandy was strong, independent, caring and loving at times. Although she puts up this hard persona she is lovable and exciting. Jake, well, what can I say? He's a dream guy. He's not on;y patient, but funny, considerate, and at many times the romantic. It's just too bad Jake doesn't have any brothers but hey a girl can dream, right?

I really enjoyed this quick read on my Kindle. I had picked up another quick read that had a slight erotic romance description and was VERY disappointing, so my hopes were not that good with this book. I got a little lost at first thinking the publishers were the sisters in the story but realized pretty quickly that it was just showing how the little mix up occurred.

While reading this book, it was mostly believable. You could picture these things happening in life - to a point. At some points you don't understand HOW they don't realize that there was an error in the description at the auction, but at others you can totally see how it could happen.

Through out the book there are sensual details that are well written. It was exciting to read it and it didn't leave me going 'Oh, really now...right' as the first book I read did. There were no verbal wordings for the sensual parts that make you cringe, in fact it did the opposite, you WANTED it to go on. The descriptions of what was going on in the book were quite good and after a couple of chapters I didn't want to put the book down.

After reading this I decided to order the next book that goes along with this one...picking up where the bachelor who is a gigolo with the wrong description is purchased by a small town girl. I'm just a few pages in but already excited to see what happens in this book as well.

"Slow Hands" by Leslie Kelly was my first ebook reading experience, which was why I chose a free (!) trashy romance that my sister promised was good. It was: I blew through 3000 plus iPod pages in a few steamy hours.

I'm used to period romances, where wide eyed innocence and ripe virginal types are a bit more believable, and so this contemporary fare with modern pop culture references is new to me. The entire plot of SH hinges on a misunderstanding that occurs in the very beginning, and is extended by confusion (on her part) and dissembling (on his). If you can forgive this conceit, and the fact that this supremely attractive and rich businesswoman and this super nice super hunk paramedic are single and have been for ages, as well as the "there is only one true love for anyone" injunction, then SH is a fun rompy ride.

The dialogue, characters, and plot development are not fantastic, but they are good enough to keep the book moving, or at least stay in the middling background enough so that you can enjoy the sexy bits. Our heroine (Maddy) is Rubenesque and luscious, which features I adore. The hero (Jake) was less interesting as I'm not bowled over by big hunky types, but he appreciates with enthusiasm. The two lovebirds spend a good amount of time in bed from the get-go, and it is deliciously described, though I (always) want more.

My first e-book! Yay! Ok onto the actual book. Slow Hands was my second book from the Blaze line and I liked it a lot more than my first one, which was a collection of short stories that were so short I didn't really buy the chemistry. In Slow Hands Jake and Maddy actually get the page count to get to know each other to make the story believable.

I love the whole idea of mistaken identity. When Maddy first bids on Jake she thinks he's a male escort, a male escort that she has a chemistry with, but still a male escort. It takes Jake awhile to figure this out and when he does he's dumbstruck but also kind of finds it funny, he's just an EMT that wants to do his family and sisters proud! I thought it was pretty funny!

I really liked their relationship, Maddy doesn't find herself lovable for many reasons including her appearance and her family history but Jake is awe-struck by her and wants her to know it. So as you might suspect their chemistry was great!

Overall Slow Hands has resorted my faith in the Blaze line and I can't wait to check out more books by Leslie Kelly, including Heated Rush which tells the story of the real male escort and the women that bid on him thinking he was an EMT!

This took me back a decade or two. The writing and the story were like something I used to read when I was still “borrowing” Mum’s Harlequins, and although I enjoyed the nostalgia, I’ve moved on. Not only did the references to a then popular TV show, the gay jokes, and the playful ixnay to kink date the book, they made me think less of it. Well, maybe not the ixnay to kink as much as the name Grey’s Anatomy.

There were good things too, like how after realising the root of their misunderstanding the main couple actually acted like two adults instead of throwing hissy fits for added drama. Maddy’s reservations and reluctance to trust and Jake’s certainty stemmed from their characterisations instead of appearing from nowhere.

I didn’t particularly enjoy the sex scenes—which is ironic considering the imprint and its purpose—but that’s par for the course with my history in fanfiction smut reading.

More than anything, this reminded me of why I used to only give three stars or less to even the best Harlequin novels.

I really wasn't expecting much since it was a Nook freebie, but I was pleasantly surprised! At a charity event where local hot bachelors are being auctioned off, Maddy and her sister decide to interrupt their cheating stepmothers plans to win a hot European gigolo. Unbeknownst to them, the bios on two of the bachelors has been
Mixed up and Maddy ends up bidding on all American stud hottie Jake Wallace. Jake noticed her while she was in the audience and he was immediately attracted to her. When she wins him, he discovers she's a woman who's been burned before and is quite cold and withdrawn. Over the next couple of weeks he uncovers quite a bit about Maddy and that he's falling for her. This book did have some steamy moments in it as well as some humor considering the mixup at the auction! Three and a half stars!

Slow Hands
3 Stars

Due to her emotionally dysfunctional family and cheating ex, Maddy has built up impenetrable barriers against men and love that slowly begin melting when she meets Jake Wallace, a hunky paramedic who she mistakes for a male escort.

While Jake and Maddy have sizzling chemistry, this cannot compensate for the contrived and predictable plot and the one dimensional characters. Maddy's insecurities quickly begin to grate on the nerves, and sexy, sweet Jake is simply too good to be true. Moreover, the secret keeping goes on for far too long and became annoying as it always does in contemporary romance.

The resolution is pathetically obvious and if this hadn't been free for Kindle, I probably wouldn't have bothered. Nevertheless, it has its moments and could have been a lot worse.

I’ve grown quite tired of romance novels based entirely on a contrived and easily fixed miscommunication—especially one that is not rectified once one party realizes there has been a miscommunication. This story falls in that category. It also has some wildly sexist moments, such as the main female character being described as “made for a man” (paraphrase) and having the main male character mansplain to her how baseball works, even though the reader is told that she almost played at a professional level. The main male character is also described as being a gentleman, despite his verbally molesting her in a restaurant and considering stalking behaviors after she tells him “no.”

All that being said, the ending is touching and worth reading, despite the fact that the rest of the book is meh.

Surprisingly good for a Harlequin, especially when you throw in that it was a freebie through Amazon. Sweet. Bidding of a date at a charity auction isn't a big deal. Women do it all the time. The difference here is that Maddy bid on Jake to keep her step-mother from having an affair with him. Plus, due to a mix-up during the printing of the auction brochure, Jake's not the playboy she thinks he is. Of course, Jake and Maddy hit it off and a night of blistering sex convinces Jake that he's found someone he'd like to spend the rest of his life with. The only problem is that her heart's been broken before and she still thinks he's a male escort. Fun and fast.

This is a free read and I enjoyed it a lot. Their relationship starts out with a misunderstanding, but the heroine has every reason to believe Jake is a gigolo. When Jake becomes aware of what the heroine believes, he has valid reasons for letting the misunderstanding stand. The couple is sweet together and I liked them a lot. A satisfying read and well worth the price. ;)

Great literature this is not, but an enjoyable, steamy read it surely is! I actually enjoyed this one so much that I'll be looking out for other books by this author. The writing was good, the plot reasonable and the situation only moderately unbelievable. All in all very enjoyable!!
