Taylor thought he had everything together. He just got into the college of his choice and all he had to do was coast through the rest of the year, enjoy his friends, and wait for freedom. He hasn’t really participated in the gossip about the mysterious and beautiful new boy who just showed up in school, but he had to admit the guy was intriguing. Alex was completely lonely. His family moved so often that he’d never had a chance to really fit in anywhere. The new guy in town, gorgeous and rich, he was the object of envy, the subject of stares. But he dreamed of having one real friend in a sea of shallow acquaintances. Somebody who actually knew him, not just what he looked like. They met by accident, when Taylor stumbled into Alex’s room at a party. It only took them one night to decide they were meant to be best friends, and not much longer after that to realize that they were in love.Taylor, who’d never been with a boy, was afraid of what would happen when he finally admitted to the world that he was in love with Alex. Alex, who wasn’t willing to be a secret much longer, was afraid that his family would pack up and move again before he had the chance to convince Taylor that their love was worth any pain it might cause when it was brought out in public. In a sweet and sometimes painful story of true love, Unintended answers the “Would you change who you were to be with the one person you were meant to love?”

I stumbled across this book, whilst looking for a YA read, and thought...why not, sounds good. And what a brilliant decision that was!! This book is super sweet....yet with a side of angst to add drama. The love...OMG, the love these two boys share, it's beyond beautiful...beyond words really. Its captivating and simply...adorable.

As first kisses go, there's the good, the bad, the completely horrendous...and them there's amazing. Totally, completely, blood pounding, juice flowing, knock you on your ass, scare the shit out of you, amazing.

*Happy Sigh* You'll fall in love with the passionate, determined and endearing, Taylor and Alex. And will definitely be reading more by this fabulous author.
How could he explain that his heart felt too tired and sad to keep beating?

I have a sweet spot for young love that lasts- probably because I married my high school sweetheart. I was sixteen, he was eighteen and I knew he was ‘it’ for me.
I just knew.
Taylor and Alex just knew. One of the things that I loved about their story was…we get their HEA in the beginning. How cool is that?

No wondering. No worrying. No angst.
This could be a major turn-off for some, but it was exactly what I was looking for on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
This would be a lovely beach book!

Their story is told with flashes from the present mixed together with the past. The slices of history were stronger and held more power. I didn’t necessarily mind the moments from their adulthood, but I craved their early days. I wanted the gushing, blushing memories. I wanted to melt over all their ‘firsts’. I got my wish.

Taylor and Alex fall in love during their senior year of high school. Taylor had never been attracted to another guy before, but with Alex he doesn’t see a ‘guy’ he only has eyes for his best friend and his one true love. Fears of coming out and acceptance from family and friends nearly destroy their future. But never fear! They are moving into their new home as husbands in the first chapter. And they are so darn cute. Lots of cuddles and pet names and ‘I love you’s’…without a doubt, a feel good read.

A beautifully written gay-for-you with lovable characters. The writing or editing could have been more polished. The time changes were clearly defined but the dialogue flowed without any distinction and a few typos were missed. If it wasn’t for the light housekeeping, this would have been a strong 4 stars for me. I always adore O’Shea’s boys, and Taylor & Alex were no exception.
Unintended is a sweet and effortless YA tale with a proper dose of smexy time. If you enjoy a good GFY and YA, I’m certain you’ll be pleased with the innocence of this unintentional love story

There isn't really a whole lot here. Not enough romantic build up, not enough communication, not enough Corn-free romance. Some instabuddy, instabond, instalove stuff going on, then some idiotic near-misses that serve to piss the reader off, then some stubborn refusals to get on with it. I wanted these two to get together, but I felt they stupidly suffered because of their own moronic choices, and that kinda pissed me off.

I’ve become quite a fan of O’Shea’s stories over the past year or so. She writes such sweet M/M stories, with low angst, lots and lots of lovey-dovey romance, featuring loveable characters who I just want to gobble up. This story was no exception.

Interestingly told, this story sort of starts at the end, showing the MCs, Taylor and Alex, married and happy in their lives together a decade after the main story of their meeting and falling in love in high school. I took comfort in knowing the HEA was guaranteed from the start (which it would have been anyway being that it’s an O’Shea story), and I loved witnessing how strong they were together, first, and then seeing how they got to that place in their relationship. It was a different way of doing things, but I really enjoyed it.

The high school scenes follow presumably straight Taylor as he meets, befriends and quickly falls in love with the new boy at school, Alex. Their initial moments together were tentative, but extremely sweet, and their immediate emotional connection was substantial. The chemistry between the two was palpable – another aspect of O’Shea’s writing that I always enjoy. Once they begin exploring a romantic relationship together, their obvious love for one another was heart-warming and sigh inducing. The steam level was also pretty good considering most of the story focused on Taylor and Alex as teenagers.

The drama towards the end of the story (set during their final weeks of high school) was still heart-breaking even though the reader already knows everything will be okay in the end. The fact I still became upset and sad over the heartache the boys were experiencing, even when I knew they would end up together, goes to show that O’Shea is an impressive writer who easily elicits strong emotional reactions from her readers.

I do have one (kind of major) issue, though. I’m under the impression that the kindle edition I read of this book was some sort of re-release? If this is the case, the formatting was horrendous! I don’t know if it was just how it appeared on my kindle, but dialogue ran together in the same paragraphs, making it hard to distinguish who was talking, and there were weird (annoying as hell) gaps in the spacing. If this is the case for everyone, then the book definitely needs to be fixed in some way, because although I loved this book, the formatting issues took me right out of the story (often right in the good bits!), which was an absolute shame.

It's no secret I love M.J. O'Shea's boys and Alex and Taylor are no exception. These two were so freaking adorable.

It was so obvious they belonged together. They had known it since the night they met.

I loved how the story started with them in the present, then we got to go to their past and see them meet. From Alex and his crush on the cute boy in the snow to Taylor coming to terms with the fact that his feelings were for a boy, this was just adorable and had me in the biggest puddle while I read it at my desk.
The way he had felt about Alex was different, so much more than he had ever felt before.

I loved falling in love with the boys as they fell in love with each other and even the painful bits were worth it because the first kiss and that kiss outside Taylor's dorm room and all that came in between were so damn good.
Taylor had always wondered what the big thing was with kissing. It had never seemed like much before. He was glad to be proven wrong. This was everything he had been looking for. It was perfect.

I am sure I could come up with a better, more eloquent review even but you know, I kind of doubt it. I am a big grinning fool of a girl right now over these boys. My cheeks hurt, they hurt from smiling and my lips have bite marks as well but my heart is all gooey and goo is good. So good.

This was such a cute, sweet story. I loved it.

The relationship between Alex and Taylor is quite adorable. They start off as friends but with the sparks between them they quickly become lovers and fall in love. It was nice seeing some of how they were friends first and to see how much they had in common before their relationship progressed.

Forewarning, though, there's flashbacks. While I usually get annoyed by them, they just seemed to work for this story because there was always a little time stamp at the beginning of a chapter to let you know it was a different year. I really liked how we saw the conflicts with the younger Alex and Taylor but still see how they've evolved and made their relationship work ten years later.

I definitely recommend this book! [image error]

This is one of those feel good books. One that you can pull out and read after a really tough to get through angsty one.

We get to meet these guys when they meet each other for the first time. So we can honestly say that we've been with them since the beginning. This story switches POV and also from past to present but it's not a head spinning omg I don't know what I'm reading kind of switch. It works...really well. It's a sweet, loving and yet it's a tad sexy.. coming of age story! I'd recommend to everyone!

Sweet coming of age m/m story. Had some trouble initially with the beginning writing style, not that it was poorly written, just a different style. Also, thought some of the back and forth/ past and present flash backs sometimes hindered the flow of the story. All in all a cute love story about two boys who started off as friends and became something more.

I'd also recommend Enlightened Little Boy Lost by JP Barnaby if you are looking for more coming of age m/m stories written for adults.

I have a special place for coming of age stories in my heart, they are usually sweet stories, and the main characters are pure and innocent, and I’m not referring to a mere physical thing, they are innocent in their heart, with their feelings on surface, and so easily to be hurt. For this reason, I admit that, most of the time, when I open such a story, I almost immediately skip to the last page, to see if it’s an happily ever after plot, if these young men will be able to overcome all the obstacles that life will put in front of them, things that at that age seem impossible to fight, while instead, years later regret makes them small events, easy to overcome if they had courage enough.

M.J. O’Shea probably believes in happily ever after, or maybe wanted to avoid people reading the last page beforehand, since she decided to be up front on the matter: Taylor and Alex, our boys, are still together 10 years later, not only they are happy and married, and with an almost perfect life together. From this perspective we start to read their story backward, from when they met in high school. The reader knows that, whatever will happen, their fragile heart will be happy in the end, and so they were able to believe in their perfect love.

The story is pretty much an high school romance, with all the usual shades of it: the cool new guy at school, all the girls fawning over him, rich, pretty, clever… and instead he is reserved and shy, and gay. On the contrary of Taylor who is friendly and popular; Taylor is not exactly the dream date of all the girl, he is more your next door good guy, but he has his merits, and above all, he has something that Alex envies him a lot, the steady root of suburban life.

There is really no drama in this story, if not the heartache young people are able to inflict themselves to be too impetuous and categorical; at that age everything is white and black, there is no compromise. If you are not sure of everything and everyone, than you are not sure of anything; if you are not willing to commit for life, than there is no point to wait few days. A week is like a year, a word is like a blow.

The author chose to make Alex and Taylor 18 years old, but I think she did it only for a legal reason; indeed they are more teenagers than adult, and they are still influenced and directed by external forces, parents, life, and insecurity. This is at the same time good and bad: it’s bad since sometime I’d have liked to knock them on the head, above all when they had unprotected sex, and with a so carelessly attitude; it’s good since probably they are really behaving like two young boys at their first experience with love.

That of Alex and Taylor is a sweet story, and also a privileged one: in the end, nothing is against them, nor time, nor money or families; they are way more lucky than the majority of boys their same age, and reading their story with an adult eyes left me with a warm and motherly smile, proud these boys managed to understand what is important in life.

Unintended follows the lives of Alex & Taylor. The book flashes back between the past (high school and college years) and the present. It starts in the present with Alex and Taylor happily married, which, in effect, eliminates a lot of angst since we know right off-the-bat that they end up together.

Regardless, the story was entertaining, which is saying a lot since I'm not one for YA books and I really don't like flashbacks. Both Alex and Taylor are loveable and I found myself rooting for them the entire way. There was some angst surrounding Taylor's reluctance to come out of the closet. However, I felt that the resolution was too simplistic. I also didn't like that Alex was the one that came looking for Taylor. WTF!?!?

Lastly, the book was really heavy on the sweetness. Too much so, IMHO.

Bottom line: Super sweet but entertaining YA / coming of age story.

I would give this one 3.5 stars! It's the story of Taylor and Alex, who are currently married and just moving in to a house they've renovated. Told in flashbacks, it's the story of how they met in high school and fell in love. I loved the flashbacks! I love Young Adult and Coming of Age stories. The current storyline didn't do much for me though. Other than confirming for us very early on that things do work out for these two long term, I don't think it did much for the story.

A cute little time-split read about Taylor & Alex and the live they've shared for a decade. From a tentative beginning where Taylor was afraid to let anyone other than Alex know how he felt, to moving in together. We see the highs and lows of true love.

I'm so mad at this book. It had everything for me to like it but it was so poorly excecuted that it didn't do anything. The writing was no better than my own fics. And the editing was really poorly done. I will see if I can find something cool to get rid of the frustration.

The moment Alex played the song in the book, I knew what song inspired the author.

I love the story as much the song.

I'm not going rate this because it would be kind of unfair. I'm not a fan of straight-up Romance (with a capital R and, no, no pun intended) and I wouldn't have gotten it, if it hadn't been a freebie. I like my HEA but I'm happier with books where some external forces (or forces the characters can't control, anyway) are influencing the story. So, my personal rating would be two stars because it was ok. I read it because I needed a filler and I finished it.

On a purely Romance (TM) level it would be a three because I wasn't overly impressed with the writing and the distribution of information. But that is all on me and I suppose that there are other readers who might enjoy it very much.

First time I read this author and must say I have signed on for a few more already. Taylor and Alex are the cutest. After one evening they find they have so much in common and become fast friends. The next thing Taylor knows he is holding Alex's hand during 'movie night'. It just feels right and after that night he shyly admits to himself and Alex that Alex is his 'boyfriend'. The story is mostly their senior year in HS together and the development of the their relationship but there are moments of present day (10 years later) mixed in is nice as well.

I really enjoy first love stories, and this one was no different. The back and forth time-hopping wasn't the best I've ever seen - it wasn't terribly annoying, but I'm not sure it was necessary as lead-ins to the telling of the past. The telling of the original story would've been great by itself, and seeing the future gave away some things that might have increased suspense when reading the past. But, that said, I still loved the story and felt the love.

Starts of cute and adorable (they're husbands!) but then it gets TOO CUTE and oh, my God, stop it with the constant I love you's (which seems to be in every pages, sorry for the exaggeration). Plus the whole switch of present and flashback becomes a bit annoying (since the "flashback" portion seems to move on a lot faster rather than the "present" portion). There are not enough tension or fleshed out problems for the story to packs a punch.

★★☆ rounded up to ★★★

I don't know if it is just me at the moment but I'm finding it really hard to connect with characters ... I found this book irritating as it switched from past to present continuously ... the soppiness of the dialogue made my teeth ache ... perhaps I'm premenstrual or something ... this book wasn't good enough to alleviate my grumpiness ... it's nice & fluffy but not what I needed at the time.

What a sweet, wonderful story. I loved both MCs. I'm not big on coming of age stories since I have a son VERY close in age, but this was very tastefully done. I loved seeing both how they got together and their lives now.

I absolutely loved this one! It’s very tender and I loved that it didn't really get complicated with all the cant-come-out and family scenarios. It’s just so beautiful! I loved Alex and Taylor so much!!! This is a signature M.J. O’Shea story. What a really feel good story! This is the kind of YA story that I rarely see now because they’re all angsty and shit these days.
