Darkest Heart is the third book in the Marked by Blood series, and I think it’s my favorite. It is an intense and dark story, as Olivia is held prisoner in a house of horrors, and Sebastian desperately and helplessly tries to find her.

The story is told from three very different POVs – Olivia, Sebastian, and Niall. I really liked that we got all three perspectives. Sebastian’s feelings of helplessness and vulnerability, Olivia’s captivity and realizations, and Niall’s political machinations, as well as his love life, are all so intriguing. I was surprised at how much I liked having Niall’s point of view, and his surprising romance with an intelligent and fiery human is one of my favorite parts of the story.

I love Elizabeth, the human who captured Niall’s interest. She is so fierce and unafraid, and she loves her sister more than anything. Her relationship with Niall shows a different side to the vampire as he struggles with his conflicted feelings. Elizabeth, with her sharp wit and insight, challenges Niall in a way no one else has, and their growing feelings, chemistry, and the constant push and pull between them is fantastic. I’m curious to see if there’s a chance for this unlikely pair.

Of course, my favorite relationship in the story is between Olivia and Sebastian, though they spend much of the story apart. Sebastian, Erianna, and Zach search endlessly for Olivia, and Sebastian is so lucky to have his friends with him because the keep him from going absolutely feral. He’s desperate to find Olivia before it’s too late, and he’s so worried for her. His ferocity and desperation heighten the already intense story and show just how much Sebastian loves his mate. They’ve come a long way from book one, and their love story is swoon-tastic. There’s one scene in particular that is so romantic and lovely that I just melted into a puddle when I read it.

Olivia has gone through so much over the course of this series, and this is the darkest of her experiences. Being held captive, forced to listen to the abuse and killings of others, deprived of food, drink, or even basic personal hygiene, separated from the love of her life, friends, and family, and still grieving the loss of her best friend, her chapters are brutal, dark, and twisted. I would suggest checking the trigger warning before reading the book. It is a dark fantasy, and some parts could trigger readers.

I’m excited to read the next book in the series after everything that transpired in this one. I feel like it’s building up to an epic conclusion and battle for power, and I’m curious to see how Olivia, Sebastian, and their allies deal with all of the obstacles they still have to face. Thanks to Rebecca L. Garcia for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Words failed me as I stared at her, a vision of beauty and terror in her crimson-splattered white gown, dripping wet, holding a heart in her hand. I'd never seen anything more beautiful yet terrifying in the same breath.

We pick up pretty much where we were left off at the end of Midnight Crown. Darkest Heart was a quick and captivating read, but it lacked something for me. Romance between main characters for the starters - yes, but there was something else. I don't know if it was just me, but I felt that this time it was easy to guess twists. Except for one (personally). But aside from that, I still enjoyed the third book of the series and I am intrigued to see how the final book will tie all together.

I would say that the spotlight in this book is shared between Olivia and surprisingly - Niall. I already felt that he would get more attention since his introduction in the story, and my hunch was not wrong. Ironically, the parallels between him and someone new were not as subtle as I would like, but it worked well. It was somewhat expected. Also, I kind of like his scheming and influence trough Blood Brothers. He gives us some delicious and twisted flare.

''So you do have a heart,'' she said, and I laughed.
''I'm just as surprised as you.''

Olivia goes trough some harsh treatment while being captive. For empath to feel so much of suffering while being trapped is already torture on it's own. In short amount of time her life has been turned upside down and it feels like she will not be able to find peace for a long time. She has been continually robbed of accessing her full powers and fate keeps playing with her life far too much. Liv needs a break - plus some wicked, sinful and kinky time with Seb.

I focused on Sebastian instead. Anything to escape the murder room. I'd felt my husband's pain earlier, I was certain. He was hurting, and I tried to send love trough our connection. I needed him to know I was alive and missed him.

The puzzle pieces are finally being put together and revelations are making more sense now. Some of them were predictable, but there were 2 that surprised me.

Sebastian is experiencing his own pain and suffering. Reading this quote had me thinking about how would it feel to lose someone but not really..

Losing someone without them being dead was worse. I didn't know where she was, what was happening to her. She was out of reach, but not gone forever. Every minute was filled with helplessness. It was like a nightmare I couldn't wake up from, no matter how much I pinched myself and wished the day away.

I just wanted to hold him in a bear hug.

This is the third book in the series and a very interesting one. So many new things are revealed, many answers are given and so much action is happening. It was good to feel the anticipation of what comes next after every chapter as new things come forward. The story is from three POVs- Sebastian, Olivia, and Niall. I liked Niall’s part the best, I got so many insights into the court and happenings. His own story and thoughts made me like him this time. Olivia gets to learn more about her powers. We get to see more of Sebastian’s emotional side. The plot thickens with every passing line and becomes more entertaining to read. All and all this series as a whole is amazing to read. Note the wait is for the conclusion.

I was given a ARC of “Darkest Heart” by the author “Rebecca L Gracia”, all words are my own.

This is probably my favorite book in the series! Idk if it was a good idea to finish it this quickly but once I opened to page one I couldn’t stop. It’s such a heart felt story of Olivia and Sebastian and how they find each other again. Niall grew on me after a while, his chapters were needed, but I’m still debating in him being on the good side.

This book comes out January 20th so you can still preorder it. Rebecca L Garcia did an amazing job on this and I’m super excited for the last book “Ruthless Royals”!!!

This series is my new obsession. It’s such a good enemies to lovers plot where they don’t get all mushy and act like they never had conflict. The plot is amazing even with the romance being such a main part. I cannot wait to read the final book

ARC Review
“I’d give away the rest of my life for five more minutes just to hear her voice again.”

A trip back into this world brought darkness, sarcasm, and some truly heartfelt moments

Picking up where book 2 left off, our vampire friends and family are desperately trying to survive their respective situations. We see Olivia trying to hold on to her sanity, Sebastian showing his emotional side, and Niall continuing to be the lovable a**hole he is.

What grabbed me most in this book was how much emotion we see from Sebastian’s POV. I don’t think we got nearly as much from him in the first 2 books and it was great to see how much he cares for Olivia and his friends.

I did like seeing Olivia’s character growth as well. She did a lot of developing in the first 2 books but in this one I think she truly grew into the person the plot was working toward. She is strong as hell and that definitely came through.

What distracted me was some of the violence depicted. I can read some really dark material and it’s not that what we saw from the aniccipere and other vamps was “too” dark - it was that I didn’t always feel the detailing was necessary. Some seemed to be tidbits thrown into random scenes just so you could grasp how dark and heartless people in this world are. Which is fine to a degree, it just happened so often in this book. Especially compared to the first 2.

“There are fates worse than death, Elizabeth.”
“I know. This conversation is one of them.”

Why should you read this book: NIALL & ELIZABETH. I have always loved Niall’s character and his POV is always a good time. The man has no filter and a tendency for violence. Elizabeth fights him right back and I could not get enough of these two!

Overall: worth reading for the characters and to continue on with this series. I definitely would recommend this book to people who like vampire/fantasy reads. It is more plot than romance so keep that in mind, but it still has steamy scenes so don’t worry

This one ends right where we ended Midnight Crown, with Olivia being Kidnapped.

As we slowly learn who kidnapped Olvia secrets are revealed. These scenes were intriguing if not a little dark. We see Olvia's character grow a lot during them, seeing how far she will go for those she loves. I enjoyed (though enjoyed may not be the right word) seeing more of this world as we ventured into the city of nightmares, it showed just how ruthless the soul vampires are and that they shouldn't be taken lightly.

As well as Olivia's POV, we get povs from both Sebastian and Niall. It was sweet to see Sebastian being vulnerable and raw with his emotions. I love his scenes with Erriana and Zach. Seeing them work together is super fun (despite the circumstances) the banter was light and you could see how much they cared for each other. They knew when to push and when to back-off.

With Niall, we got to see more of the castles politics, what makes him tick and more of his motives with Olivia. We also had a lovely surprise within the mortal, Elizabeth who brought out Niall's softer side, occasionally 😜. I was interested in getting to know more about him during these scenes and found myself looking forward to them more, as the book progressed. I don't know what's next for these two. I have never wanted a couple to get together more than these two. I will die on this hill!

I felt like we got to know these characters alot more in this book. What they will do to save the people they love, how they will fight to get back to them or what they will do to get their way. It was certainly a character growth book for some of them and I can't wait to see what happens next.

This series has been bringing all the darkness! Book 3 was no different. I loved it. Darkest Heart is full of great tropes like my personal favorite - enemies-to-lovers, as well as chosen one, redemption, and political scheming.
I enjoyed the fact that this book continued on with our previous 3 characters pov. It definitely gave a more rounded view of everything that was going on everywhere. Olivia is still a badass fmc, Sebastian still gets all the heart eyes, and Niall is now on a whole other level of interesting! I've really grown to like his character in this one. I also liked how we got more of a glimpse at the totally disgusting and evil aniccipere.
This was a quick read. It did take me a second to remember where we left off with book two, but once my memory caught up all was well and I couldn't stop myself from flipping the pages. A lot happens and I couldn't wait to figure out what would be next! Some twists/revelations I was able to predict, but one other one caught me off guard and there's another that hasn't yet been revealed that I haven't figured out.
Overall I really enjoyed this addition to the series! The only part I did not like was when there was one scene that entailed fat shaming from one vampire to a mortal.
I'm loving this dark, vampy series and I cannot wait to get my hands on the final book - Ruthless Royals to find out what happens next!

⚠️TW: murder, death, graphic violence and blood. Heavy spice with on page sex (some with more than one participant) and general dark themes.⚠️

4.5 stars! This is the third book in the Marked by Blood series, and there is so much happening. We get multiple POVs (not just the MMC and FMC), as there is so much unfolding in so many different places, all at the same times. It almost seems like it would be too much, too difficult to keep everything straight, but surprisingly it’s really not. While Sebastian et al are doing everything they can to find Olivia and bring her back, a back door rebellion is growing stronger in the palace, a power hungry alliance that threatens everything Olivia has been hoping to accomplish. And while Olivia is being held by Astor, trying to figure out a way to escape and being subjected to all types of horrific situations, she is forced to do things she never dreamed she would do. A prophecy is driving everyone’s actions here, but depending on how you interpret that prophecy, your motivations and desires are different. It’s absolutely fascinating to see everything come together, fall apart, and come to light as people try to come out on top. All the while, the mate bond between Olivia and Sebastian is holding, but seemingly weaker, as they feel and feed each other emotions, the only connection they have while so far apart.

In general, this book definitely feels like a big vehicle for plot progression, with very little really on the romance front, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. There are a lot of holes filled in here that were left from the previous books, and it actually does a great job setting up what I’m sure will be an absolutely action packed and spice filled final book in this series, so I’m totally here for it. There is definitely some unexpected and intriguing character development in this book, which I think is going to shift the overall dynamic of the next book as well, so overall, this was a great part of the overall story.

A particularly dark and bloody third opus. Olivia will have to face the darkness to escape but the price is sometimes expensive to pay... We get to know Niall better and he turns out to be less despicable than we could have imagined. A hint of humanity is sometimes hidden where we don't expect it. It's trashy but addictive and we are totally immersed in this adventure and waiting for the sequel is an ordeal!!!

Darkest Heart by Rebecca L. Garcia
“Sometimes bad things happen for a reason. We can become stronger, or we can let it destroy us.”

This is book 3 in the Shadow Kissed series. I enjoy this author and this series, book 3 was a little shorter than the others have been. But I liked the multiple views, but also just how there were two views of what was happening on each side of the book. *I won’t spoil it for anyone*
There wasn’t as much spice in this one as the others because there was a lot more plot and advancement for the series. But the spice that is in there is good.
There are a few tiny grammar errors but hey some things happen. But otherwise I enjoyed this advancement for the series; along with the ending leading into the next last book.
Thank you so much Rebecca L. Garcia for the eARC. Darkest Heart available Jan. 20,23.

Be prepared for a dark read. Check the triggers, but if you’ve enjoyed the first 2 books in the series I think you’ll like this one too. Olivia is imprisoned and basically has to watch so many humans tortured and killed. She definitely grows and learns a lot in the story. Sebastian almost goes crazy with worry for Olivia, while Niall’s perspective is really interesting as he plans and plots. There’s some unexpected twists and a couple that I did anticipate but I definitely was kept intrigued by the plot. There’s quite a bit of steam and lots of blood and gore so be warned. I didn’t like this quite as much as the first 2 books in the series, but it was still really good and I can’t wait for the conclusion! I think it will be pretty epic!

I received an ARC from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This book was more enjoyable. I don’t know what happened to all the characters in the second book, but they’re finally becoming their own.
Poor Niall has become delirious it’s the only explanation for all of the wrong words being used in his pov. There were so many I kind of just rolled with it. Vampires parted because they saw “my crowd” cool, not sure how you wear a crowd on your head, but you do you. You did your next to clean a mortal? Cool. Seraphina is suddenly the goddess of the underworld instead of Salina. Okay you spent all this planning to woo her, but sure.
Not to say the other povs are perfect, but Niall’s was the worst and I mildly despise him now instead of downright hatred.
The reveal at the end was intriguing.
100% better than the second book.

After the cliffhanger of the second book, I could wait to dive right into this book.
The devastating detail written was horrific, which really hit me hard. If I were a crier, I would no doubt have tears running down my cheeks.
The relationship between the two main characters has really blossomed. The way he is protective and cares for her is like no other.
Same as the previous two books, parts were dragged out longer than necessary.
The build-up was a lot for a very disappointing showdown.
Book four isn't released until March, which I will no doubt read, but having a break from this series will be a real delight.

What a supernatural love story. Olivia and Sebastian give true meaning to the saying till death do us part. Vampires, sorcerers and everything supernatural are looking for the highest power in their world and do all they possibly can to rid Olivia of her right to the throne. Olivia is kidnapped and put in the worst possible situation and fights for her life, all the while Sebastian and friends and family search for her. This fast-paced novel takes you through every emotion that is humanly possible. What a well written series, and the hook on the end of this book definitely leaves you ready to read the next one.

🖤🖤🖤🖤/5

Darkest Heart was a quick read and very entertaining. I admit, it lacked a bit of what I loved most about the previous two books in this series, which would be the romance. But once our two favorites reconnected by the end of the book, it was back on and just as good as ever!

I very much enjoyed getting more of Niall’s story this time around. And I’m very much intrigued by the little puzzle pieces that were dropped along the way. And they make me even more excited for the next and final book in this series.

I loved watching Olivia grow more into the strong immortal woman she is, and while I wished her and Sebastian were more together in this book, there is much to be said about her not being any weaker for it.

Sebastian, however, was a lost little puppy without his love. And it was kind of adorable to watch. Although he has been the strong one throughout this entire journey, so it was nice to see that other side of him. While still being strong and menacing trying to get her back.

This was a fun journey of self discovery for Niall. Blood, gore and violence commenced in the fight to get Olivia back to safety and the escape she needed to free herself. And it was a puzzle waiting to be solved. I enjoyed every second, despite missing the spicy romance. And I cannot wait to see what happens next.

DH releases today and this series is definitely one you do not want to miss if you enjoy paranormal romance 🖤

I loved the first two books and was super excited for this one, but for some reason it didn’t quite work for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good but something felt off. I am excited for the next book though!
.
The plot wasn’t really moving forward so it felt a lot like a filler book. Add to that the constant inner monologue in all three POVs that lead nowhere and I get bored. Then there’s the fact that some of the most important scenes happen off page and are then told to the characters instead of showing how things happen.
.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an eARC

There are so many things I can say about this book but I'll make it quick.
I loved the multiple point of views with this book. You're able to really see what's going on with these characters and it opens your mind up to them a bit more.
There are answers to some of the questions to the previous book and this book right here....darkness and I loved it.
So many twists and turns and plots and rebellion happening in this book it gave me whiplash and I can't WAIT for the final book in this series.

Wow do I love this series! It just seems to get better each book that’s released!

This follows events pretty closely after the previous book and had me on the edge of my seat waiting for everything to just be okay with everyone, and then finding out a huge secret and twist that makes me want to read the next book to find out how the story will continue!

One thing I love about this series is Niall 😍 such a great character! He’s definitely my favorite and I love that he has a redeeming arc because I just adore him and I can hardly wait to read more about him in the next book!

Darkest Heart, which is book 3 in the Shadow Kissed series, definitely did not disappoint! This book was fast paced and full of exciting action, romance and plot twists! Rebecca does a perfect job balancing an intriguing plot with just the right amount of spice! We get three points of view, which were Niall, Olivia and Sebastian. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like having Niall as a main point of view, but by the end of the book he definitely grew on me. After that ending, I cannot wait to see what will happen in the final book!

Don't get comfortable because this book will keep you balanced on the edge of your seat the whole way through!!!

Seriously can this series get any better??? Absolutely fantastic I am loving every minute of this series , completely hooked!! I'm not going to go into detail because I really don't want to slip any hint of what happens and how is it possible that I now actually like a character that I've wanted to slap more than anything 🤣

Not going to lie, I was a little disappointed with this book.

I loved the first two, however this one just fell flat. There was things happening… but nothing was happening.

For some reason this book also felt shorter than the previous two. I don’t know maybe it was just how it was written. And I really couldn’t care about Niall 😅 his chapters were kinda boring too.

I wanted more of Olivia and Sebastian. This story was just a little on the boring side. I’m hoping book 4 will be better 🖤

2 stars is normally reserved for books I DNF but this is a special exception.

Why build Niall up to be a villain and then expect me to give a shit about his POV and love triangles?

Switching POV just as things get interesting in one doesn’t build tension, it just winds me up. Even more so when it happens Every. Single. Time.

Also all the ‘twists’ were beyond predictable. Apparently there’s a fourth book? I won’t be bothering.

I liked it more than the second book, and now I can't wait to know what will happen in the next book!
The only thing I didn't like it's the way Olivia and Sebastian met at the end: I felt it too "artificial". I mean, they didn't see each other for weeks, and, after all the trauma, they just have sex without talking or telling each other what happened in those weeks? It's not realistic for me and I didn't like it.
Anyway, I'm going to read the final book Asap.

hooked BUT

I really enjoy the plot and look forward to the final book but MY GOD does this need editing. The amount of typos and missing words kept throwing me out of the world and it became really frustrating.

I don’t know if this is just a kindle issue but for a major part of the book certain things like quotations or dashes became underscores maybe this was a font transcription error?

Please fix it yall

I liked the darker side of this book as it shows more depth to the characters. I love the fact that there is a whole other side to Olivia that even she doesn’t seem to know herself. I thought Hamza returning was a little repetitive but did like the way it tied in with the Goddess. I also like seeing Niall’s humanity more and definitely suspect Elizabeth may be his soulmate, not going to lie morally grey looks good on him.

So dark but so beautiful

It goes without saying that the cinematic world building continues in book 3. I love when an authors words transport you. This book was about Olivia becoming who she is meant to be. There is a lot of growth for her in Darkest Heart. Definitely leaves you on the edge of your seat. So excited for book 4!

ARC Review-

I liked this continuation but with the first two this one felt a little different. Without giving much away. We got some answers and there was a good amount of action and the secrets!! I struggled a bit with Niall’s perspective and the pacing so I just didn’t get sucked into it much but overall a good addition to the series.
