To be honest I knew very little about Gilbert and George, after the book I know a little more but still the mystique they create around theirselves as well as the contradictory views on their art and them really only muddies the mythology.
This is a good book though, the artists work is shown in technicolour glory throughout and it doesn't shy from presenting a balanced view of artists from numerous critical sources.
Ultimately however it's a book about staging an art show in Moscow at the time when the old shackles of communism where starting to lessen and Glasnost was kicking in.
It's strangely life affirming too offering a snapshot of a culture alien to us in the west and shows how it touched not only the artists but all concerned with the show.
