Manon Uphoff was born in 1962 into a family of 13 children. She left home at 16, went on to study literary theory and is now an acclaimed artist and writer, whose novels have been shortlisted for numerous prizes. Vallen is als vliegen (Falling is Like Flying) has been a literary phenomenon in the Netherlands, making 32 ‘Best of 2019’ lists, being shortlisted for 4 awards and winning the prestigious Charlotte Köhler Prize.

Rijk en divers, deze bundel met elf verhalen. Het Sarajevo-verhaal (voorlaatste in de bundel) staat dicht bij de biografie van de auteur en het toont het grote ongemak, de onmogelijkheid om bij slachtoffers van verschrikkingen de goede toon te vinden. Bijzonder verhaal door een paard verteld, veel huwelijksleed ('De bruid'), gewelddadige en machteloze mannen. Mooiste verhaal is 'De vanger', van 'Het potje' ontging me de kern (vrees ik).
