It's prom season, and no town does prom like Tinsel Town. Ben is back for the summer -- just in time to be Anna's prom date. But his family has a house guest who's so hot, she's bound to burn up their perfect plans. Adam finds out a scandalous secret that threatens to tear Cammie's world to pieces. Sam agrees to take Parker to the prom and they end up doing a lot more than dancing. What happens when Sam's romance-obsessed boyfriend Eduardo flies in from Paris to surprise Sam? This prom is sure to be glamorous, and occasionally downright shocking! It's just the kind of night the A-List crew will never forget.
The author of The A-List series and How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls, which has been renamed and turned into a TV show known as Privileged on the CW in September 2008. Zoey Dean's books are produced by the media packager Alloy Entertainment, which created Gossip Girl, The Clique Series, and The A-List and sold them to Little, Brown and Company. Zoey is currently working on The Talent series. She is also working on The A-List: Hollywood Royalty. Zoey Dean divides her time between Beverly Hills, California, and her favorite small islands in the Caribbean.
I think this book was probably better than the past 5 books in the series. I like Jack’s character and I liked the drama with Cammie. I still think it’s kind of a drawn out series but it’s entertaining and they’re all quick reads.
Not bad. I love the prom theme for books! Definitely takes me back. I didn't remember a lot of this series and its events but this book feels the least familiar to me for some reason. I'm not a fan of a few couplings so I hope things change to what I want them to be lol.
This series is so shallow and yet I continue on with my re-read. I had forgotten how fat-phobic these books were, especially this one. Still addictive, though.
Unfortunately I read this book and frankly, if it were for adults, about adults, it might be decent. Zoey Dean seems to be one of the masters of smut for young girls. Here is my review in case you are a parent wondering.
Central Issues Prom, documentary film making, sex, kindess toward strangers, high school kids living and acting like adults, underage drinking, fashion, wealth, indulged children, absent parents, blended families, divorce
Issues Touched Upon Gay intolerance, adult- sanctioned underage drinking, high school girls with implants, gambling, alcohol and drug abuse, pierced nipples, tattoos, porn, bi-polar disorder, psychiatric ward, naked, A-list people, B-list people, cattiness, coke-ho, lines, "she'd had sex before; usually while drunk/high," cutting chool, "screwed their brains out," acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), multiple sclerosis, charity, mental retardation, sexual relations, Getty Museum, doobie, gold digger, fake ID, erection, hooking up, making love, female student pursuing male teacher, accidentally burning down a hotel with a misplaced joint, documentary film making, smoking, adultery, murder, divorce
I’m slowly making my way through books I read when I was a teen, and I’m starting to think that there wasn’t one good book written in the early aughts.
I consistently have problems with books that tell you something a character does, then the character does the thing, and then they talk about it. All in a matter of the same paragraph! Are you trying to build back story? Get me in on the inside joke? Or is this Emperor’s New Groove? “Oh, right. The poison. The poison for Kuzco, the poison chosen especially to kill Kuzco, Kuzco's poison. That poison?” Please, all authors. Stop this.
However, all that said I wouldn’t mind binging a show with the storyline of these books.
Gotta admit I liked this book because Ben & Anna are tight here. It made me loved their pairing even more. <3 I liked Sam more here, and my dislike for Cammie because slightly lower and made me realize she and Adam deserve each other. Plus, Dee & Jack are super adorable ♥
This book follows the A-List girls from Beverly Hills High School as they prepare for the upcoming prom. Sam, an up-and-coming wannabee film director, sees prom as the perfect opportunity to film the next hit documentary; but will all of her dreams come true even after she learns that Eduardo, her foreign boyfriend, can't join her on this special day?
Anna and her boyfriend Ben are back together, but will the life-long friend staying at Ben's house put some strain on their relationship?
Cammie has felt unsettled about the death of her mom for a long time now, and when her boyfriend's parents Adam dig up some news about the "boating accident" where her mom supposedly drowned, Cammie knows she needs to confront her dad about what really happened.
After being in a mental hospital for a month, Dee is finally acting normal again; she's feeling better than she has in years! When Cammie sets her up with a boy named Jack for prom, sparks seem to fly instantly... could this be love?
It's not surprising to find a series of books that the reader outgrows before the end, but in this case it feels like the author has outgrown the series. It's like she wishes she was writing soemthing more sophisticated. Very big words are used, terminology that's highly uneccessary too, as well as the characters seemingly developing new personality traits out of nowhere five books into the series.
The idea that this series has three or four more books is very odd to me. As the writing iss till prefectly good, but it's miving beyond a highachool drama series aimed at a middle grade/YA level.
At home, running low on books and I picked it out of little free library stay. I saw the names of lots of designers. Big woof. Find something to waste your time. There are a few grammatical errors near the end.
I enjoyed the prom theme of this book. I also really liked that there was the subplot of Adam starting to find out what happened to Cammie’s mom. We’re finally starting to get a plot that’s not solely focused on the characters. It was a refreshing end to the book.
Shallow and vapid, this series is not holding up well. It seems really dated. This book was much more longer than others in this series and it dragged on forever.
god i hope maddy and that teacher don’t become a thing in the next book or i will literally burn it. also please i need to know what’s up with cammie’s mom.
In this sixth installment of the A-list the story of the young and rich, Zoey Dean’s focus is mainly on prom. Overall this book is a great read; it has a great plot and wonderful storyline. Each character has his/her own little story happening inside this one. It does start out a little bit slow in the beginning but then it picks up.
In the beginning none of the wonderful A-list really even consider going to prom. They are all so above it. Sam however starts to consider it when Anna stated that she wants to go. Then when Sam finds out about a documentary contest, which would be perfect to showcase her talents. She sets her sights on making prom happen and getting her A-list friends to go.
Anna seems to have it made in this one or so it seems. Ben is home for the summer and they finally settled on an honest relationship. Even better than that Ben is taking her to prom but could this very attractive and very curvy family friend that is living in Ben’s house cause new problems? Who knew perfect Anna had so many insecurities.
There is a new side of Cammie shown in this book as the mystery of her mother’s death unravels slowly. The question is will she take it out on Adam because he’s the one who found the truth?
Dee gets a night pass from Ojai Psychiatric Institute for the prom she’s still an inpatient there being treated for bi-polar. We see a brand new Dee in this book. Could it really be that Dee is actually normal now?
Dee goes to prom with Ben’s friend from Princeton, Jack and they find they have some scary reality in common. There only issue is how they are going to ditch her chaperone from the institute, Marshall.
After the Bel-Air Grand Hotel burns down thanks to one of our not so good girls. She didn’t do it on purpose and she actually feels guilty for once, which is quit shocking. There is mad panic about getting another venue for prom. Sam steps in and takes over getting her father’s movie set for Ben-Hur. She pretty much saves the day for the prom weenies as she calls them. Only problem is now Eduardo can’t take her to the prom. So she goes with Parker as a friend…or at least that’s what they said.
This book had all the drama and glamour and designer dresses that all the other had. However there wasn’t as much cattiness in this one which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but some readers may miss this. Like I said before it started a bit slow but then it picked right up and I was sucked right into the story. The biggest thing that kept me intrigued was the mystery of Cammie’s mother’s death. Another great scene that will capture everyone is prom prep, when all the girls work together to help one less fortunate girl.
This book is definitely geared toward the high school and early college ages. They will be most definitely intrigued by how these girls live, everyone who loves the Gossip Girl series and The It Girl series will love this book and I must recommend the rest of the book in the A-List series, they are delicious! A definite must read in the series!

How I Came To Read This Book: Danielle lent it to me!
The Plot: Anna Percy convinces her LA 'friends' to go to prom - but Sam has another idea in mind. Namely, she's setting out to shoot a prom documentary expose on the B-List girls that plan prom, befriending them yet simultaneously referring to them as the 'prom weenies' behind their back. Meanwhile Cammie is struggling with a dark secret from her family past that threatens her relationship with Adam, and Dee is finally on the path to normalcy at a fancy clinic.
The Good & The Bad: This book was a step up from 'Back in Black', as prom is a topic pretty much no one can screw up for enjoyment. That being said, the book oddly spoils a lot of its plot 'twists' in its back cover blurb - twists that don't occur until the last 40-50 pages of the book, which really renders the first 3/4 pretty useless. That being said, this book gave Dean a good opportunity to show off her skills at writing about the life of luxury these kids enjoy, which is probably the most enjoyable part of the books, as unimaginable as it may be. I think the cliffhangers at the end were interesting - and more motivation than usual to continue on with the series, but I also am still not LOVING this series.
So this book was another one recommended by my friend Alexandra. Overall, I thought this book was an okay read. From the cover and title, I thought it would be about some rich girls living snobby lives, stuff we see on the television like 90210, Gossip Girls, NYC Prep type. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE watching those shows, trashy dramas and trashy reality shows like The Hills, but I don't really enjoy reading books like that. I think I'm more of the visual person. THroughout this book, the main plot dealt around prom. Cammie wanted to know who killed her mother and Adam knew almost everything. Adam had a letter that said that Cammie's dad was sleeping with Sam's mom. It turns out that Cammie's mom fell off a boat the night that her dad cheated on her mom. Can I say DRAMA or what? Eh. I don't think I would recommend this book. It was kind of long and I didn't really like the plot.
I really didn't like this book. The only reason i read past the first chapter was because i didn't have anything else to read. The whole book, i suspect was about what rich girls were doing. I know how people say don't judge a book by it's cover, but i do that before reading most books. Guess what? I was right. When i first saw this book, i didn't like the cover, but i didn't have much time to pick another book. I really don't recommend this book to anyone who like adventures or anything that is interesting. Another reason that i didn't like this book was because for some reason, i couldn't relate to the characters nor put myself in their shoes. In other words i couldn't read the story from their point of view.
I'll give the book a "4" because I enjoyed the storyline, but the editors get a big fat "0". I have noticed one or two irritating editing errors throughout the series, but this book had multiple mistakes. Spelling errors and missing and/or misplaced words really shouldn't make it into the final edit of a book. The consistent name dropping is getting a little old as well. However, I am still looking forward to continuing the series. I enjoyed the turn the ending took, and am happy to see some drama beyond the relationships of the teens, and learn more about Cammie's insecurities. Oh, and one last thing? Do high school students in Beverly Hills really get implants? I mean what parent would allow a 14-16 girl get implants?
Some like it hot is a book about a group of highschool students in an A-List group. It's time for prom and the B-List students need one of the A-List girls to help them prepare for it. Will Sam help them when her boyfriend Eduardo might not even be able to make it? And what about Anna and Ben? Is a good friend of Ben threatning to tear Anna's perfect relationship with Ben apart? What's in store for Cammie and her BF Adam? Will Adam find a horrible secret about Cammie's mothers disapperance and When will he plan to tell her? This prom will be heartbreaking, exciting fun, sensational, and disappointing for many, but in the end there will be a few hard choices, break-ups and friendships ruined and put back together
This book starts off with Anna wanting to go to prom even though Sam just wants to make a prom documentary based on the 'B-list' girls on planning prom instead. Meanwhile befriending the girls she calls them "prom-weenies". Cammie and Adam struggle when they find out a secret involving her and Sam. And Sam's boyfriend, Eduardo unexpectedly shows up at prom and catches Sam doing something that could end their relationship forever.
I can connect this book to Gossip Girl because finding out what happened with Sam at prom was just as big of a shock for Eduardo just like for Blair when she found out what Nate did.
I give this book 4 stars because at times it got a little boring. **** (4)
I remember reading it in the 8th grade and I remember enjoying it so I decided to pick it up and read it again. It's a light read which I enjoy. It talks about a girl, named Rocky who moved from the Philipines to the United States in the 1960's. Rocky falls in love with a guitar player, Elvis. She moves with him to San Francisco and meets someone named Keiko. The three of them decide to move to New York and start their band :The Gangster of Love. I think the author did a great job of really showing direct and indirect characterization of the characters in the book, especially Rocky. I would recommend this book to those who like to read inspiring stories.
Prom is right aroudn the corner for BHH and of course aton of drams is bound to come. Sam has a great idea for her documentary but it changes whens she finds out the the B list isn't so bad. Eduardo comes back only to leave again. Ben is back which makes Anna happy. Prom cames and Sams documentary is ruined when she win Prom Queen but when Eduard catches her with Parker when he comes back he might just be gone forever. And Adam finds some new information on Cammies mother's death that only makes her more hungry for answers.

If I hear the words "low-slung" or "raven hair" one more time, I will go to Beverly Hills and light another old hotel on fire. And don't forget the mirror trick right from the get-go so that we can have yet another description of perfect Ahhhh-nna's perfect features.
I enjoy silly teenage books as much as anybody else, but the writing was poor and barely held my attention. I found myself skipping ahead through pages and even entire chapters just to get to a part where something interesting happened. Not my cup of tea.
Didn't realize it was the middle of a series, but even so..... story wasn't that great. Beverly Hills girls typical drama while planning a prom. Ugly girl lost weight now pretty, ignored by daddy issues, newer girl with ex-boyfriend of one of the other main girl's ex-boyfriend, wanna-be producer was going to make fun of all the non a-listers at prom and ends up liking them and being prom queen and has to change her whole documentary to be a better person. It was ok
I never saw the ending coming! Who knew Sam's boy friend was going to come back? That really caught me off guard. But I felt kind of uneasy though. For some reason I really don't like Ben and Anna as a couple... But overall it was really good. And I'm glad especially when I read that Dee got better and met someone special. Ooh! I just hope my prom would be half as good as this one!
SO far this book is similar to the Clique series but more geared toward the Gossip Girl crowd. Rich friends going to prom what will happen you know the story line...it just amazes me how these HS kids are always drinking in these books. It makes me wonder if that really happens to the "rich" people.
i want to read HELL YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BABA BABA
