Tess McDonald has a score to settle. It was she who set into motion a series of events that caused the murders of two adversaries. Tess even turned complete strangers, Kim and Nikki, into partners of a deadly crime. With life good now that their nemeses are out of the way, they celebrate. But not for long. On the night that the three women reunite, Tess receives a phone call that has the potential to ruin everything that she has put in place. Vincent, the one man that Tess would have changed her life for, has found her and her cohorts and he knows everything. She agrees to meet him with the intention of silencing him for good. But Tess is shocked when Vincent asks her to leave with him and put her criminal past behind her. However, Kim and Nikki aren't about to let her go so easily.
Tess, Kim, and Nicole have moved to Aruba to begin to restart the secret escort service Tess has in NY but Tess gets a call that could ruin everything they’ve worked toward.
This book did a good job tying in Getting Hers but It was definitely not as good as the first book. There were some interesting twists but for the most part it was a huge cheese ball.
The dialogue was cheesy and unrealistic. Everyone is literally always trying to murder each other, which wasn’t realistic either. The plotting against each other felt very immature for supposed adults.
Another theme that keep coming up was feeling a great deep remorse for someone perceived to have been murdered and realizing that murder is not the answer. But then some characters are still willing to kill again just to get rid of their problem.
The ending was too perfect. Everyone just got away scot free with a new avenue back into regular life.
Although I haven't read Getting Hers, this sequel from Donna Hill certainly had me wanting to learn how this trio (Tess, Kim and Nikki) got together to form a bond that would be tested in this novel. There were a lot of twists and turns but I wanted more action. I felt that Tess and her sister's relationship needed to be fleshed out some more. The ending was somewhat abrupt and left me hanging. Nevertheless, it was a good read!
This was my first Donna Hill novel. This book is action - packed and drama filled and has alot of character and characters.
There are also some twists and turns, one of which I was not expecting. I understand this book is a part of a series, and this is not the first in the series. I believe it would have helped me to learn a little more about the characters, but she makes the characters so likeable (even the villains) that anyone is able to follow.
