After centuries of persecution and dispersion, Jews are back in their land and pursuing the rebuilding of the Temple with increasing fervor. This fascinating, fast-moving overview of contemporary events shows why the Temple is significant in Bible prophecy and how, more than ever, Israel is READY TO REBUILD. Exclusive photos of Temple preparations as well as maps and other illustrations are included.
TWO WRITERS ARGUE THAT THE TEMPLE WILL BE REBUILT SOON
Thomas Ice is an Associate Professor of Religion at Liberty University, and the executive director of the Pre-Trib Research Center at Liberty University; he has also written/cowritten books such as 'The End Times Controversy,' 'Prophecy Watch,' 'The Great Tribulation--Past or Future?: Two Evangelicals Debate the Question,' etc. Randall Price is the author of many books, such as 'The Stones Cry Out: What Archaeology Reveals About the Truth of the Bible,' 'The Coming Last Day's Temple,' 'Fast Facts on the Middle East Conflict,' 'Jerusalem in Prophecy,' etc.
They begin this 1992 book by explaining, "This book has been written with an eye on Israel. It has been written with the belief that what God is doing in this world, and what He will yet do, concerns the Jewish people. Further, it has been written in the conviction that was are living in the last days of human history... 'Ready to Rebuild' brings current events surrounding the plans of Israeli Jews to rebuild their Temple into sharper focus... the authors of this book have devoted several years of research in Israel, interviewing the major leaders and spokesmen of the Temple movement, rabbinical authorities, and archaeological professionals who have direct and expert knowledge of Jewish eschatology and the Temple Mount... While we do not suggest that the Temple is being built today, nor that it can be built today, we are convinced that there is a ground swell of expectation in Israel, not simply of the radical fringe, that a Temple will be rebuilt tomorrow. Major obstacles remain... we offer our own conclusions concerning the eventual resolution of the Temple issue."
They admit, "From an Arab perspective any move by Israelis now to return to the Temple Mount would be regarded as a declaration of war against Islam... The Arabs recognize that a rebuilding of the Jewish Temple would be the final act assuring complete Israeli sovereignty over the land and its people, a sovereignty they have never acknowledged." (Pg. 18)
They state, "The people who contend that there will be a third Temple take Bible passages about the tribulation period literally. They believe that verses such as 2 Thessalonians 2:4, 'so that he (Antichrist) takes his seat in the Temple of God,' speak of an unfulfilled future event, which implies a Temple in Jerusalem." (Pg. 26)
They argue, "nothing in the text or in extrabiblical tradition explicitly states that such continuity with the original ashes is required. For this reason, recovery of the ashes of the red heifer is not considered important by some Temple activists, including members of the Temple Institute... The Temple Institute believes that they HAVE found a means of producing an authentic red heifer today... Israel Ariel believes that he has identified some unblemished, genuine red heifers that will meet the biblical requirements... Funds are being raised to transport a group of these heifers and care for them after their arrival in Israel." (Pg. 136)
They contend, "the fact that there will be a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem at least by the midpoint of the seven-year tribulation period is supported by at least four scriptural references [Dan 9:27; Mt 24:15-16; 2 Thess 2:3-4; Rev 11:1-2]... The abomination of desolation was something that took place the first time through Antiochus Epiphanes in the second century B.C., when he stopped the sacrifices and desecrated the second Temple by sacrificing an unclean pig on the altar and setting up in its place a statue of Jupiter. This literally fulfilled Daniel 11:31. Therefore, these future events will be similar in kind to the prototypes---they will be real, historical events in a last days' Temple." (Pg. 198-201)
Somewhat "dated," this book will still be of interest to some students of biblical prophecy.
