Known as Yumeka Sumomo (夢花李) in the BL community, but has also published under the names Sahara Mizu for her seinen works, Sahara Keita (佐原恵太) for her shoujo works and Chikyuya/Sasshi (地球屋/さっし) for doujinshi.
Typically I don't like oneshot collections but I'm a sucker for anything by Yumeka-sensei so that's why I picked this title up. As far as oneshot collections go, it's not too different but the artwork is gorgeous and the emotions portrayed are done really well. Also, each story was completely different from the last so there were a wide variety of plot lines which I found to be a good thing.
It’s an okay collection of short stories. The art is a bit unrefined, but what strikes most is that the stories seem to have a lot more going on than what you actually see depicted in the art or text. Less than lukewarm feelings about this one, sad to say.
I totally love Yumeka's artwork, but sometimes her characters look exactly the same in this collection. The first three stories are very nice and lovely, but the last one called 'Robot' is a total mess and I almost didn't even bother to finish it.
The titular story is the worst in the collection by far so don't stop reading it even if that one flopped for you... the witch one was my favorite I couldn't believe the author said she thinks it sucks in the end note lmaooooo
Yumeka Sumomo's stories don't always grab me but her art is my favorite in all of manga
I picked up this little one-shot volume by chance, thinking it looked cute. And it was; cute, a little thoughtful.
The first story is about a girl wanting to move on from her past childhood, wanting to grow up, only for a childhood toy of hers to haunt her, trying to show her love. I thought this story was very cute and warmhearted. Her toy was a sweetheart, and the ending left me very happy.
The second story is about an arranged marriage between yakuza families, with the girl already in love. This story was predictable, but I still thought it was pretty cute. There was some time taken to show the girl’s feelings for the guy, and I liked that.
The third story was about a witch needing a human’s tears to increase her power. This story, I think, was a little underdeveloped, as I had hard time really growing close to the characters, and the ending could have been more. But it was still a cute story.
The last story was about a robot world and the people who own them, and people who reincarnate as themselves over and over again. It was kind of an odd story, and I don’t think the world or the ideas presented were very clear, or maybe there just wasn’t enough time to fully develop them. The whole idea left me a little confused, unsure how it really worked. It had potential, and it wasn’t a bad story, but it just wasn’t very clear.
This was a pretty good collection of stories; I enjoyed most of them. The art was very pretty. I’m glad I picked it up.
I've been digging out and rereading some of my manga one-shots this year. I recall buying this book because I liked Yumeka's "Same Cell Organism" and "The Day I Became a Butterfly" and I adore her "Voices of a Distant Star" adaptation (different name, same creator). The art in this collection is nice, but the 4 stories don't click and feel only half-written. What is going on here? If you're a Yumeka completist, you might enjoy - but the casual reader can probably pass on this. 2.5 stars.
