One of the most popular open source blogging and content management systems, Wordpress lets you create a website to promote yourself or your business quickly and easily―and better yet, it's free. WordPress is a flexible, user-friendly system, and it can be extended with a variety of themes and plugins. Beginning WordPress 3 is a complete guide for the beginning developer who wants to start using WordPress. You'll learn how to publish and manage online content, add media, create widgets and plugins, and much more.
A good hands-on, pretty nitty-gritty guide to using WordPress 3 (if you're hosting it, not the web-based interface). A good guidebook, but somewhat lacking in terms of the "whys"; the author focuses on building and hosting and arranging, but doesn't think much about the user experience or usability features. Also, it does suffer from the inevitable fate of print works on technology - eternally changing features and options.
I bought this when I was new to WordPress and I thought this was a horrible book for anyone who is just learning. Every bit of code that I tried to use in this book did not work! I got error messages every time. I checked and rechecked to make sure that I had it right and still it didn't work. This book is clearly not for beginners as it states.
This is a great book for beginners wanting to familiarize themselves with Wordpress. It is easy to read and understand. The screen shots are very helpful as well. If you have worked with Wordpress, this book is most likely a reiteration of what you already know.
