Maxwell Maltz was an American cosmetic surgeon and author of Psycho-Cybernetics, which was a system of ideas that he claimed could improve one's self-image leading to a more successful and fulfilling life.
Before I read this book, I read Maltz's Psycho-cybernetics and Magic Power of Self-Image Psychology. Both were excellent, and inspired me to first, be more positive, and second, accept myself for who I am. I honestly had issued with perfectionism, simply because I had excelled academically until I entered medical school. I didn't forgive myself for the mistakes I made, especially because I don't want to excuse myself for my own mistakes: I became risk-averse, and to some extent, I still am, but I never really appreciated my own quirks until I started reading more reflective self-help books.
While both books were extremely helpful, it seemed to me that this was a simplification and a rehash of what was already said with those two previous books. If Psycho-cybernetics was the essential text, and Magic Power of Self-Image Psychology the supplement, this book was the unnecessary paralipomenon. It's still useful, but only as a reviewer.
