Jimmy Bell is living the simple life of a fisherman on the Florida coast. Little does he realize his life will be turned upside down by a chance encounter he had with an escaped convict years ago, and by Estella, a cruel debutante he has longed for since childhood. Based on the novel by Charles Dickens. this is the 'Film Tie-In' to the 1998s movie of the same name starring Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow.
I’ve seen the movie almost 20 years ago, and was quite fascinated by it. And I have to say that I’m equally delighted by the accompanying book. Which is rare, because mostly “Film Tie-In”-Books are just average and you’re better off watching the movie. But it was a real pleasure to read this gem. Maybe because I haven’t watched the movie in a very long time, and imagined the individual scenes while reading, so it really was like watching the movie again. It is such a beautiful, although also quite sad, love-story between Jimmy (I like the name ‘Finn’ in the movie better!) and Estella.
I still don’t know how similar the movie + book is to Dicken’s Original. Still haven’t read this one, but I honestly intend to do so. Sometime!
I love this story, and when I was younger I loved this version! Finally read it and it's exactly the same as this versions film! Now I have to re-watch it :]
