The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."

Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.

A couple funny moments, but this kid is a complete dick. He wants to be black and/or Jewish so he can have a longer holiday, he hates girls and Spanish, and rags on African food, all while being an entitled little turd in school. If he's the MC of the entire series then I'm not interested.

My Granny bought this throwback for me for Christmas since she’s precious. Read in order to attempt my 10 book goal for 2020. Miss Holly is Too Jolly was a lovely book that brought me right back to my third grade classroom.

I'm in the minority on this one. I tried reading it to my 6 yr old son. I was appalled at how many stupids, dumbs, and hates were in this book. I try to limit those needless words as much as possible for my kiddos

My book no. 350 is cause for a Christmas-style celebration in a big way! This 14th of the Saga of the Weird School is the one fans have waited for with the eagerness of awaiting for a certain Big Red Guy to drop from that chimney, Heater, or whatever entrance to your home is logically impossible for one man 300-plus pounds! AJ is celebrating the Holiday of Jesus' birth the only way he knows how: with Grinchian meanness and abject Scrooge-ish apathy, especially towards his most behated frenemy Andrea, the smarter woman (she's 10, he's at least 11, the younger girl is usually more mature anyway, and AJ is totally against that fact, or so he says!). The language arts teacher is Miss Holly, a cute blonde who is teaching Spanish to an enthusiastic class of girls (mostly) and a not-so-enthused group of boys (MOST mostly!). She celebrates every holiday imaginable around December: Christmas, Hannukah and the African holiday of Kwanzaa, and poor AJ will once more have to suffer the indignity of love and happiness surrounding this time of year. BUT: on the day of their Christmas pageant--all sugar plums and candy canes--(you ready for this?) AJ, AKA Arlo Jarvis (he will not live THAT down!) is trapped under the mistletoe with none other than Andrea and, yes folks, they kiss for the first time. Gloria in excelsis deo!!! Can AJ (short for Anti-Jollity if you see thru my perspective) endure the humiliation of falling in love with his own worst enemy (the other one being himself, naturally!)? Any comments from the critics I will DASH AWAY, DASH AWAY, DASH AWAY ALL! Merry Christmas, this day and every day!

Well, I am officially sick of this series. Bad attitudes, bad language, poor behavior... Hardly the thing I want to read to my 7 year old. He really likes the funny parts of the book, but it's not worth the awful parts. I wish the author would tone it down a little.

This book was pretty good. This book was about how a Spanish teacher becomes jolly for the Christmas spirit. Aj's school was having a Christmas pageant and the Spanish teacher was the leader of it. Mrs. Holly was putting a bunch of mistletoe down everywhere because she wanted the children to kiss but they thought it was gross. They had their Christmas pageant and Emily, the girl that Aj hated, slipped on some fake snow while she was twirling and fell off the stage and landed on the school administrator. Everybody laughed and then the principal acted like he was Santa Clause and he fell off the sleigh and everybody was laughing even more then all of the kids just started bolting out of the school.

This book was pretty funny and I really enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to someone who likes comedy books. I would also recommend this book to someone who likes to laugh. I enjoyed this book because it was very entertaining and stupid. I hope whoever reads this book enjoys it as much as I did.

These are absolutely amazing books. I tutor a little boy who hates school and reading. These books have changed him. He laughs and can’t wait for me to read them. He follows intently. Even I look forward to reading them. So so good. Thank you for writing these great humorous books that children can relate too and the humour is age appropriate for children and their era…not the adults. Not the easiest explaining some humour that is in some childrens books that is geared from the adults era not the child’s.

Why are so many people loving this book? It's terrible! My son started reading it by himself but then I started reading it with him and even he pointed out that 'dumb' wasn't a good word to use. Then I started reading the other chapters with him and wow, the main character is terrible! Just horrible to girls, not-great language, and lots of 'hate'. I hadn't looked at who the author was but I had a sinking feeling it was a male and sure enough---the misogyny shined through bright and clear from the author. We've abandoned this book for other, less terrible books.

This book is about a kid named AJ who has a teacher named Miss Holly who is having a Christmas pageant and is a little too jolly about it.

Well this book is written well but if i had a child i wouldn't want them reading it. This kid wants to change his race so that he can have a longer holiday, he is mean to girls, and he is unapologetic. I hate to suck all the fun out of this book but that is what i got from it. Also if i had a kid i just wouldn't want them acting like this main character.

In Miss Holly is Too Jolly the new Spanish teacher, Miss Holly, is getting Ella Mentry Elementary school festive for the Christmas season. She's hanging up mistletoe around school, spreading Christmas cheer, and teaching all the kids festive words in Spanish. The school decides to throw a Secret Santa and A.J. ends up picking Emily. What could go wrong?

I though this one was cute, but I liked the Halloween one better.

My kids loved this and thought it was hilarious, and if it gets kids reading I am all for it. This however, was not as good as they others for me. It got boring to read because too many words were repeated. Maybe… and maybe… and maybe…. The end of the book. I have liked others from this series but this one was not for me. I do suggest especially for boys building their reading confidence. As I said my kids thought it was hilarious and that is his target audience.

Funny read

My 3rd grader thought this book was funny and read it through in a few sittings. This was her first experience with a kindle book and I would say it was a success. The 5 stars are her review.

Whoa! I don't know that many Spanish teachers, but I had NO idea the ones I knew fit a stereotype I never even knew existed! I guess teaching small people Spanish requires that much enthusiasm and love of performance?

The use of incorrect grammar made me cringe. One of my education classes talked about children learning proper grammar through reading instead of grammar lessons. Well, then this book is an atrocious example to be mimicked by young minds.

Good Book! christmas theme is awesome, love the author, but the format of all the books is a bit too predictable and basic, Although i love the use of asterisks, i would love to see a different format in these amazing books

I enjoyed reading this. It wasn't hard to read and I finished it fairly quickly. Miss Holly hanging mistletoe was cool for Christmas but having to kiss a boy when you are under the twig is gross. Finding out who we're elves was fun. I enjoy the My Weird School Series.

This is my 2nd my weird school book and we're done. Our main character is mean to kids and disrespectful to adults and I didn't like it. This book is festive enough, but they won't cooperate and be Christmas-y for the pageant and thats annoying. I didn't think it was cute, just rude.

Great way to introduce various winter holidays at a kid's level--complete with typical kid misunderstandings. Entertaining for both children and adults. And the holiday program is a riot.
