Welcome to Morganville. Just don't stay out after dark - Morganville is a small town filled with unusual characters - when the sun goes down, the bad come out. In Morganville, there is an evil that lurks in the darkest shadows - one that will spill out into the bright light of day. For Claire Danvers, high school was hell, but college may be murder. It was bad enough that she got on the wrong side of Monica, the meanest of the school's mean girls, but now she's got three new roommates, who all have secrets of their own. And the biggest secret of all isn't really a secret, except from Claire: Morganville is run by vampires, and they are hungry for fresh blood.
This Edition of The Morganville Vampires includes the first three books; Glass Houses, Dead Girls' Dance and Midnight Alley. This omnibus edition comes with specially designed end-papers, red paper-edging and a place ribbon.
This book is simply beauitful. The Cover its pure perfection to the storys and fits them perfectfly. I really love the blood splatter on the books and the blood at the corner of the girls mouth. Very subtle yet very effective.
The Morganville Vampires Series is one of my favourites. Rachel Caine has managed to create a very unique story with the vampires. It a refreshing read and truely mesmerizing. The story is mainly about four friends who are trying to survive in a town that is run by vampires. The characters in the books are fantastic and there is someone that everyone can related to. The four main characters in these books are Claire, Eve, Shane and Michael. Claire comes to morganville to go to college and gets sucked into the world of vampires and dangers. Eve, Shane and Michael all grew up and Morganville and know how dangerous their town can be. Each character are ver interesting and add something different to the story. They aren't the usual teenagers I have read before in YA novels. There is also many other characters that are in the books and even though there is alot of characters Rachel has managed to interwine all their storys perfectly. My favourite character off all is Crazy Vampire Myrnin. I have a real soft spot for him.
Rachel Caine has managed to deliver a fast paced, action packed, whirlwind rollcoaster of a read. The Morganville Vampires really will suck you from page one and leave you begging for more with every book. They are loved worldwide by young, old, male, female. It doesnt matter who you are. There is really something for everyone in there storys, love, action, danger, adventure. This is one of very few storys that has it all and everything its intergrated just right.
Rachel, Thank you for a fangtastic story that will always stay with me forever.
These books have been on my Amazon wishlist for a good few years, & when I spotted this omnibus in WHSmiths for a fairly reasonable price, I knew I had to buy it.
Immediately from the first chapter, even without acknowledging the series title, it is clear that something isn't quite right with the town of Morganville, Texas. A young, extremely intelligent girl, Claire Danvers, having enrolled at Texas Prairie University two years ahead of her class, makes an enemy of the most popular girl on campus, which starts with Claire's laundry being thrown down the trash chute, continues with Claire herself being thrown down a flight of stairs, & concludes with Claire desperately finding somewhere outside of the dorms & off campus for her to live.
Which is where the Glass House comes in. Owned by Michael Glass, & inhabited by Michael, & his two roommates Eve Rosser & Shane Collins.
Despite Michael's initial reluctance to allow a minor to live in his house, Claire moves in, & the disruption only just begins.
A series of secrets, vampire factions, ghosts, magic & a mysterious illness follows.
An enjoyable collection of books. I like the way that the writer doesn't take up too much time explaining what has happened in previous books, which I find annoying as 95% of people reading a book in the middle of a series will have read the preceding books. I also find the reduced teen angst, which a lot of teen / young adult fiction is full of refreshing. OK the main character does point out she is nearly 17 a lot, but she isn't spending a large amount of time believing her new relationship with Shane is the love of her life and if they aren't together the whole world will end. I admit I have only read books 1-3 (and 9). The continuing storyline is interesting, and the additional of new vampires with each book helps to shape the town and the world in which the books are set. If you enjoy Vampire fiction, and you want something light to read, these books are definitely worth a look at.
And I am not going to go through with a huge review, needless to say I really enjoyed these three books, don't have the others, if I come across them then I will read them on these three alone. I like the different takes/idea's of the Vampire/Vampires, some really cool idea's here to make it yet again something different from so many otheres. It is I think a young adult type book though it can hit the nerve in places. If your in to your Vamp books and/or just starting out you will not go far wrong with these first three. Easy reading, well structured & paced very well.
I read this years ago and to be honest, the first time I couldn't really take it all in because there was so many little details about the characters and their lives that I had to read it again a few years ago to fully grasp it and I'm so glad I did because I brought ever series afterwards. I was hooked in this fantasy world of the supernatural and all the challenges these roommates had Recommended!
Is about a 16 year girl goes to Morganville to school and finds out that the town is ruled by vampires. This is an amazing book that will keep you not wanting to put it down. Claire (16 years girl) she sound so fragile at the beginning but in the end she surprises everyone by being all the time the one that does everything to save the people she loves, even if that means getting her seriously hurt or maybe dead. The girl is very smart with a big heart, but she lets the emotion and fear take over her judgement sometimes.
Book 1 Glass House in this volume it will take you from the time that Claire get's into Morganville for school. After just few days she moves from the dorms to the Glass House with Eva, Shane and Michael because she was pushed down the stairs by Monica. In the house she finds out that vampires are the ones in charge in this town and is safer if you do not go out after dark. The safer place is in the house until you invite them in.Also her, Shane and Eve find out Michael's secret why he never leaves the house, and that is because he was human during the night but he will turn to thin air when the sun rises. He was apart of the house, but unfortunately trapped inside of it. This is when they all realized why he was never able to help any of them outside of the house. Their big problem appears when Claire find the book that the vampires have looked for it for centuries. When she decides to take it home, without wanting she attracts one of the oldest and meanest vampire in town Oliver. Claire and everyone else refuse to give him the book so they end up with him and a whole lots of other vampires and human allies on their door trying to get the book with any cost. Well everything ends well, but with the cost for Claire to be owned by Amelie the founder of this city.
Book number 2 The Death Girls' Dance is about Shane's father coming to town to kill vampires. To keep his friends safe from his father Shane has to go along with his dad and give him all the secret vampires hide outs. Because the problems they were gathering up Michael decides to let Amelie transform him into a vampire so he could help his friends even outside of the house. To "relax" from everything that was going on around them they accept an invitation to The Dead Girl's Dance', which was hosted by a fraternity named Epsilon Epsilon Kappa (EEK) Unfortunately for them this turn out to be the worst place they could hope to have some fun, because right at midnight the whole place turned into a blood battle. (why i will let you to discover )
All the vampires were blaming Shane, so he ends up in jail with a death sentence. Michael plans to go and save Shane but he finds out that his father had helped him to escape and now he is stuck in an old hospital with Claire (the new couple) and that his father wants to blow everything up not caring that he will kill his son too. Fortunately Claire destroys the wires, but Shane's dad still manages to escape without anyone knowing where he is. When they finally get home they find and envelope with Amelie's name on it.
Book number 3 Midnight Alley is where they find out that Claire is the property of Amelie in exchange to keep her and her friends safe. Now Claire had to go and try to find a cure for vampires along with the craziest vampire Myrnin. Claire has to learn so many things that will be impossible for a human to even be able to create the "medication" which she was taking to learn so much more in so little time. Why they were in a rush it was because Myrnin was only in his clear mind just for few hours and those hours they will spend while he was lucked up in a cage. Monica pretending to be nice with Claire invites her, Shane, Eve and Shane to her party. While trying to escape from there Eve's brother Jason stabs Shane. He spends few time in hospital because he hated to be in there, so they end up leaving earlier getting home to find out that Claire's parents are moving to town and they had a "friend" with them. Michael freaked out when he meet the person that was with them, because he was Bishop, Amelie's father.
Well this book was better than I thought it would be, and I was dreading reading it for about a year because I know how many sequels there are. It gets 1.5 stars knocked off for Caine's casual attitude towards violence and rape. Seriously, how many times can a girl almost get raped and still be walking around like everything is fine? I would not be going to a party in a teeny tiny dress if the last time I went to one I was almost gang raped. Seriously, Claire?! Another 0.5 star is for Claire. She's annoying and stubborn and childish. Being called jailbait by your boyfriend isn't funny, not even a little bit. I get that Caine is trying to get across an image of college life, life in Morganville and living with two guys, but she does it poorly and she makes it cheap. Sure, all the steamy kissing was, well, steamy, but when its combined with all this angst about how its *technically* illegal and not-so-veiled references to sex it just combines into one big pile of annoying.
Complaints aside, I liked how it was written. It felt like it was written by a teenager and for all I know, it was, but I liked Caine's style. It doesn't require much brain power and it was easy to get through. The plot is like so much other YA fiction which is also why I didn't really want to read it, but it did okay. I'm not paying full price for the rest of these books but if I can get them cheap...who knows?
Picked this up because the cover looked cool and didn't expect much from it, but I'm genuinely blown away by what feels like a novel take on vampires! Rare!
The vibes are completely right - it's still definitely YA but the horror is in the right places and about the right things. At first I thought the characters were a bit overplayed, but when you learn more about them it absolutely works. I'll be tracking down the rest of the series soon I think - Myrnin has compelled me, as a chronic illness haver who does not see that in a lot of vampire stories. Also all of the politics going on re. power both physical and institutional is fascinating.
I docked it one star for the quality of writing on a technical level - line to line it's serviceable, but a lot of the narrative beats are strangely ordered, in a way that feels very much like the writer learned their craft on LiveJournal. For the most part I quite like that - it means the characters get to take the stage rather than the plot - but it does make the points of tension last either chapter to chapter, or across several books, to the point that often the only thing splitting the story into multiple books is just its length (mandated break every 300 words). It's quite jarring when each book continues seamlessly from the last, but has to spend much of the opening chapters re-explaining everything to catch up any new readers.
I had already read (and reviewed) the first of the three books collected here before.
I sat down intending to read the second novel and then put this omnibus down for a while before returning to the third ... I failed - and ended up reading "The Dead Girls Dance" and "Midnight Alley" back to back.
The "vampire town" of Morganville is an imaginative and unique setting, the secret details of which are slowly revealed throughout the three books.
The core cast of four teenage friends are a diverse and troubled group of "outsiders", struggling to look out for each other and survive the Morganville experience however they can...
Rachel Caine, as always, delivers a fast paced and compelling story in each book.
The Morganville Vampires Series are extremely addicting. I love the new fresh twist that Ms. Caine gives to "her vampires". The way she has written her characters and really given them life is so refreshing. (no pun intended) The further I read into the series the faster I read through the books. I own the entire series as of to date, and can not wait until the release of the newest addition. I just can not get enough of them. This is a series I will cherish for life and one I will continue to read.
I liked it. I just wish that the main character, Claire, was depicted as someone beautiful. Someone who made Monica insecure by her beauty. But I still enjoyed reading the first book and I am almost finished with the second book.
Ah, Morganville. Probably one of the best young adult vampire series out there.
Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t perfect. There are many things I disliked about this series, yet when I compare it to other books in this category it ranks rather high. Throughout the series, we have a continuous story and individual book stories to keep you engaged, without things growing repetitive.
If you’re into young adult vampire stories then I suggest you give this series a go.
I am really loving this series! It has heaps of interesting twist's and turns, gets speed reader exciting in parts, and I find that I don't want to put It down, I just want to keep on reading to find out what's going to happen next, I love the characters and can see there story unfolding in my head as I'm reading and for me that is a must have ability to keep me interested LOVING IT.......
Once again I loved this book!! There are so many secrets in Morganville Rachel Caine has a nack of just giving you a glimpse of what they are and snatching it back....I find myself turning the pages frantically to see what is going to happen. I can't wait for the next installment.
This book was amazing! It had twists and humour and dark moments and scary moments. It was so good, it involved the stress of everyday life and the stress of living in a town ran by vampires! Fantastic book! <3
First book was intreaguing and the story was flowing really well. It is a book that needs to be split in three and not read as a trilogy. I did get bored in the end. But good for teenagers I guess.
