Calamity Jane
Lucky Luke fait la rencontre de Calamity Jane. Cette femme est particulière car elle agit comme un homme. Elle a déjà été dans l`armée, elle a travaillée sur le chemin de fer, son langage est très cru, etc. Tous les deux décident de faire route ensemble vers El Plomo car Luke doit s`y rendre pour faire une enquête concernant un trafic d`arme avec les indiens. Lorsqu'ils arrivent sur place, ils font la rencontre de d'August Oyster propriétaire du saloon-hôtel. C'est là que les ennuis commencent...

Morris started his career in 1945 in Le Moustique, creating various covers and illustrations. By the end of the 1940s, Morris met his colleagues Jijé, Franquin and Will. These four artists would be called "The Gang of 4", because they all worked in Jijé's studio at that time. The first episode of Lucky Luke, 'Arizona 1880', was published in L'Almanach Spirou 1947, and was later continued in Spirou. In his early 'Lucky Luke' comics, Morris was greatly inspired by animated cartoons à la Disney.
In 1949, Jijé took Morris and Franquin to the US, where Morris met Jack Davis and Harvey Kurtzman, whom he helped with their plans for Mad Magazine. He also met René Goscinny in the US. Hat mir gut gefallen.
Schon als Kind mochte ich die Lucky Luke-Bände, die sich mit weiblichen historischen Persönlichkeiten wie Sarah Bernhardt, Belle Star oder Annie Oakley beschäftigten, immer am liebsten.

Morris' en Goscinny's Calamity Jane heeft net zo weinig met het historische personage van doen als de film met Doris Day, maar het excentrieke personage leidt wel tot menig humoristische passage, vooral wanneer de ruige vrouw zich probeert te schikken als nette dame. Het siert de auteurs dat ze Calamity Jane uiteindelijk zichzelf laten zijn. Met heerlijke cameo van David Niven als leraar goede manieren.

? Ik zag dit boek bij mijn bieb en heb het vroeger meerdere keren gelezen, maar was nu weer nieuwsgierig...
🤔 Voor mij zeker 1 van de leukste Lucky Luke albums en daarmee 1 van de leukste stripalbums die ik ooit gelezen heb. Dat is vooral ook door de persoonlijkheid in het album van Calamity Jane, die bijzondere dingen doet als vrouw en daarin blijft volharden ook al moet ze ook iets aanpassen. Bijzonder was voor mij dat ik de eerste 4 pagina's bijna nog wel uit mijn hoofd kende na waarschijnlijk toch minstens 40 jaar...

Estas histórias de Lucky Luke podem ser um pouquinho incómodas aos nossos olhos do século XXI, mas não deixam de ser um pouco divertidas e, quem sabe até, talvez até um pouco progressistas. Neste caso, é-nos mostrada aqui uma personagem que diríamos fugir à "norma" vigente (se é que se pode dizer que em qualquer século que já tenha passado existiu uma norma...) do século XIX. Uma mulher que não viveu segundo o padrão que se esperaria de uma mulher, até mesmo do faroeste americano.
A história nem sempre tem um ritmo suficientemente entusiasmante, mas não deixa de se ler bem.
Estou a gostar de conhecer algumas das histórias de Lucky Luke (de forma algo dispersa), pois até agora, nunca tinha lido nenhuma delas.

Je m'attendais à apprécier plus cet album de Lucky Luke. Il se lit agréablement mais je l'ai trouvé très daté et manquant de relief (et de Jolly Jumper !). Ce ne sont que dans les dernières pages que je me suis vraiment attachée à Calamity Jane. Dernières pages qui sont également les plus drôles selon moi.

1967 και το αχτύπητο δίδυμο Γκοσινί και Μορίς κυκλοφορούν την περιπέτεια του Λούκυ Λουκ "Καλάμιτυ Τζεην". Όπως γίνεται αντιληπτό από τον τίτλο πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο έχει μια από τις θρυλικότερες μορφές της Άγριας Δύσης η Καλάμιτυ Τζέην. Στην συγκεκριμένη ιστορία ενώνει τις δυνάμεις της με τον Λούκυ Λουκ προκειμένου να σταματήσουν έναν επικίνδυνο έμπορο όπλων που προμηθεύει τους Ινδιάνους. Σπαρταριστοί διάλογοι και μπόλικο χιούμορ. Δεν απογοητεύεται ο αναγνώστης.

quite funny most of the time, but I'm not sure that Calamity Jane herself works as a character; more of an inverse stereotype. The deportment tutor is a fine creation though

POPKULTUROWY KOCIOŁEK: Lucky Luke to jeden z najstarszych i najbardziej rozpoznawalnych bohaterów komiksowych. Jego wiek nie wpływa jednak na umiejętność zapewniania czytelnikowi doskonałej komiksowej rozrywki. Przykładem tego jest tom 30 serii, zatytułowany Lucky Luke: Calamity Jane, gdzie stykają się ścieżki dwóch legend Dzikiego Zachodu.
Luke mocno zaangażowany jest w śledztwo w sprawie sprzedaży broni Apaczom. Na jego drodze niespodziewanie pojawia się dobrze znana wszystkim Calamity Jane. Kobieta tym razem nie szuka jednak nowej porcji adrenaliny. Postanawia się ona ustatkować i zamieszkać w mieście jako zwykła ułożona dama. Biorąc pod uwagę jej mocno wybuchowy charakter, nie będzie to łatwe. Luke postanawia jednak za wszelką cenę jej pomóc, tak aby mogła ona rozpocząć nowy etap swojego życia. Nie zapomina on jednak o prowadzonej sprawie i bezwzględnych przemytnikach broni, których musi schwytać.
Historia jest tu dobrze skonstruowana i wciąga od pierwszych kadrów. Fabuła nie wprowadza jednak wielu nowych elementów w stosunku do poprzednich części, chociaż w kilku momentach potrafi miło zaskoczyć. Scenariusz głównie opiera się tu na sprawdzonych schematach. Nie należy tego jednak uznawać za wadę. René Goscinny jest bowiem mistrzem wydobywania z pozornej prostoty treści, które mocno angażują.
W przypadku tego albumu bardzo sprawnie miesza on intensywniejszą westernową akcję, komedię oraz odrobinę dramatu. Wszystko to tworzy przemyślaną, spójną i interesującą całość. Humor jest tu przeważnie prosty, ale trudno się mimowolnie nie uśmiechać. Jego pozorna prostota spodoba się młodszemu czytelnikowi, ktoś starszy dostrzeże zaś w kolejnych gagach czy dialogach głębie nadającą żartom nowego wymiaru.
Tempo narracji jest przy tym dobrze wyważone – akcja rozwija się płynnie, nie dłużąc się, a jednocześnie dając czas na rozwój postaci i sytuacji....

Quand un scénariste est au sommet de son art, cela donne des albums mythiques, qui ne vieillissent pas et qu'on prend toujours autant de plaisir à lire et à relire, sans que cela prenne une ride.
L'album Calamity Jane en fait partie.
Morris et Goscinny mettent en scène un personnage de l'Ouest ayant réellement existé et le résultat est à la hauteur de l'album "Le juge" qui mettait lui aussi en scène un personnage réel.
Calamity Jane est une espèce de garçon manqué au sale caractère, n'hésitant pas à tirer sur tout le monde, surtout si on lui manque de respect, et elle aime mieux boire du whisky que de prendre un bain, ce qui vous laisse imaginer l'odeur qu'elle doit dégager.
Non seulement la rencontre entre Lucky Luke et Calamity Jane est drôle, remplie de scènes humoristiques et de bons mots, mais en plus, l'histoire derrière l'histoire est travaillée et remplie de mystère avec ces armes qui arrivent entre les mains des Apaches sans que l'on sache comment, ni par où elles transitent.
Pendant que notre Lucky Luke enquêtera sur ce trafic dans la ville de El Plomo, notre Calamity, de son côté, va tenter de se civiliser et de devenir une dame, ce qui donnera quelques scènes d'anthologies avec un professeur de maintien aux airs de l'acteur David Niven qui finira par sombrer dans l'alcool à cause de son élève turbulente.
Les personnages sont parfaitement esquissés, de notre virago Jane au tenancier louche du saloon, August Oyster, qui a tout d'un mafiosi pas net, aidé de sa montagne de muscle dépourvue de cerveau.
Un album haut en couleurs (même si à l'époque, on pourrait croire que quelqu'un avait peur qu'on n'use trop de détails dans les couleurs et tenait absolument à publier des cases entièrement rouges ou bleues…), avec des personnages drôles, amusants, travaillés, et un scénario et des dialogues, comme toujours, au petit poil !

A Saloon Owner looses his Saloon out of carelessness, and sexism to Calamity Jane.
Bad for him, because he sells Weapons, and Gunpowder to Natives, and he need the Saloon for the discrete Storage.
After a few failed Attempts to scare her of, he manage to activate the most powerfull Fightingforce in Human History, against her. Old Ladys, who watch over the Towns moral.
The two Stand out Gags are certainly the Teacher of Calamity, who tries to turn her into a propper Madame for the Ladys Club, and ends up as John Wayne, or any other famouse Western Star.
And not to underrestimate, Gomino, the Leader of the Apachen. If you know more about the Timeperiode, depiciting Natives as Villian always leaves a soure Taste, but Gomino is such a intimidating pressence. Hes played more like a Mob Boss, a Mafia Leader, complete no nonsense, a Man of little, but strong words, and absolute delight to watch in the handfull scenes he can call his own.
I feel domesticating Calamity, and the Gag whit her Cookys isnt realy the best role for her, even if her inability to fit in has great Gag Potencial. I rater have her causing Trouble, or helping Luke as equal Partner. Thats where her reckless Persona realy shines.
The Book doesnt life up to my expectations, but its not bad at all.

I didn't enjoy this volume as much as others unfortunately. The bad guy of the story, the owner of the saloon, is a listless and apathetic character and the Apache don't participate much in the plot. The story has a lot of cliches and stereotypes, like when Calamity Jane tries desperately to be a member of the ladies club. Moreover, the etiquette professor isn't funny at all.
Of course there were some parts that I enjoyed such as the arm wrestling between Calamity and Baby Sam, Lucky Luke's response to Calamity that if courage needed you are the greatest of all the ladies and the ending of this adventure, . But in total I can't say I laughed much with this volume.

This is another story based loosely on things that really happened. It opens with an Apache attack. while Luke is bathing in the river. He doesn't have his gun but Calamity Jane comes along and drives off the Apaches.
Her backstory is covered. She ends up owning a saloon but the problem is the guy that did own it was selling guns to the Apaches so this makes up a good part of the story line. Another section is Luke try to get Calamity to learn how to be 'refined' so she can be accepted into a women's club.
The story is not quite a funny as other ones in the series since it covers a very real problem of that time and that is people selling guns to the Native Americans which they then used to kill settlers.

Ini adalah salah satu seri petualangan Lucky Luke yang berkesan buat saya.
Barangkali karena saya membaca Calamity Jane jauh sebelum saya mengenal Kartini, maka konsep prioritas dalam emansipasi wanita menurut saya jadi agak berbeda dibandingkan kebanyakan orang.
Misalnya, saya akan lebih menghargai konsep wanita yang bisa mengganti ban mobilnya sendiri dibandingkan hanya konsep hak wanita untuk mengemudi. Saya lebih bertanya apa yang telah dilakukan oleh seorang presiden perempuan ketimbang teriak-teriak tentang hak perempuan menjadi presiden. Dari komik ini saya bisa melihat bahwa emansipasi bukan sebuah permasalahan, namun lebih kepada pembuktian.
Barangkali karena saya membaca Calamity Jane jauh sebelum saya mengenal Kartini, maka konsep prioritas dalam emansipasi wanita menurut saya jadi agak berbeda dibandingkan kebanyakan orang.

July 4, 2025در کمیک لوک خوششانس شخصیتهای واقعی زیادی مثل دالتونها وجود دارند اما این بار کتاب یک فرق خیلی بزرگ داشت. وقتی داشت از جین حرف میزد آخر کتاب عکس او را هم گذاشته بود و یادی از زنان در آخر کتاب کرده بود. برایم عجیب بود. خود داستان خیلی باحال بود. جین یک زن بیاعصاب شلوغ است که اصلاً نمیتواند تحمل کند کسی بخواهد روی حرفش حرف بزند. این بار تقریباً لوک خوششانس حاشیهای است و داریم جین را میبینیم که تلاش میکند با تفاوتهایش کارهایی که دوست دارد بکند و خب، مثل همیشه یک عالمه اتفاق باحال و بانمک میافتد. یعنی وقتی یکی با لوک همدست بشود چیز دیگری انتظار داریم؟

Ez is egy érdekes kis sztori, Calamity Jane pedig a könyv végén található kép szerint valós személyiség volt! Véletlenül találkoznak Luke-al, aki épp egy nyomozás kellős közepén van. Jane maga egy meglehetősen nyers nőszemély, akit Luke megpróbál kinevelni, amelynek akkor sikere van, hogy még a helyi nőegylet is felveszi a végén a tagjai közé. Persze van egy apacsoknak fegyvert csempésző bűnbanda is, amit kettejüknek végül sikerül leleplezni. Nem rossz történet, vannak benne jó poénok, az átlagos nem-Daltonos sztoriknál sokkal jobb!

C’est un des bons de ma collection. J’ai l’édition de 1970, bien jaunie. L’histoire est rocambolesque à souhait, le caractère fort et puissant de Calamity vient apporter beaucoup de fraîcheur à l’univers de Lucky. Il m’en reste une dizaine à lire dans ma PAL et je viens de me procurer L’artiste-peintre (l’avant dernier de Morris #71) et le dernier APRÈS Morris donc le #10 avec Rantanplan. J’ai hâte de continuer.

Από τα καλύτερα!!! Αν ήτανε να εκφράσω ένα παράπονα θα ήταν πως ο κακός του τεύχους είναι κάπως αδιάφορος, καθώς και το subplot οπού η Καλάμιτυ μαθαίνει τρόπους καλής συμπεριφοράς είναι ένα κάπως απαρχαιωμενο τροπάριο. Θα προτιμούσα και η μάχη με τους Απάτσι να κρατούσε περισσότερο, αισθάνθηκα πως τελείωσε πολύ γρήγορα. Τουλάχιστον, ο Γκομίνο, ο αρχηγός τους, είχε φοβερή και απειλητική παρουσία και ας μην εμφανίστηκε για πολύ.

Excelente serie que no escatimó intentos para entregar una comedia de calidad. Contiene lo clásico que hace a Lucky Luke.
Me encantó como la relación entre Luke y Jane fue evolucionando hasta terminar en una profunda amistad. Espero verla en albumes siguientes.

Calamity Jane was always one of my favourite characters in Lucky Luke comics. I think the end of this story is also very powerful.
