But when she falls for the squeaky-clean director of the local youth center, things get complicated. She's one step ahead of the danger on her tail, and may be taking him along for the ride. Should she run, should she hide—or should she stay and fight for the new life she's building based on a big, fat lie?

I just love the Pajaro Bay cozy mystery series, set on the California coast, and SUNSHINE COTTAGE was a wonderful addition to the series! Theresa Soto is on the run. She was kicked out of her sister’s house at seventeen and exploited, and after witnessing a murder, she’s placed in the witness protection program and sent to Pajaro Bay for a fresh start. Living under a new identity, Theresa starts over and meets new friends and romantic prospects. I particularly loved all the second chances story lines in this one. Saving homeless kids and dogs? Yes, please. But when the guy she’s been dating finds out about her true past, will he man up and deal, or cut and run? I love these cozy mystery/thrillers which have a lovely beach setting, and just the right amount of thriller.
Teresa Soto had to prostitute herself because of her alcoholic and drug family who forced her into the life, sees a murder, gets caught by the police and they put her in a protected program because the gang leader was after her. The police sent her to Pajara Bay.
Theresa Sols is placed in witness protection program due to she witnessed a murder. She was sent to a charming town called Panadol Bay. She settled in an was enjoying the job she had, the town and all the people. Everybody was so welcoming and excited that she came to there town. Sadly she let her guard down while she was trying to help a young homeless boy. He just want it all to end the way he was living an doing drugs. She told him her story and that everything could change if he would let people help him that care. Which put her and other that danger when the mob found her. Must read to see what happens. I would recommend this to my family and friends.
I loved this book. At first, the beginning had me wondering if I should continue reading. Mainly because it starts with the heroine in jail. I won't go into details but it was hard to read. As I read on though and followed the changes in her life as well as the challenges, I found myself unable to quit reading. There are many ties to challenges people face today and how we deal with them (drugs, homelessness, crime) and ultimately this is a victorious but believable story. I now checked my Kindle and am going back to ready another in the Pajaro Bay series and will continue.
Forced into an unsavoury life, the heroine finds redemption in the witness protection program.
A young prostitute whose family had forced her into the life, sees the aftermath of murder , gets caught by the police for unrelated problems & has to go into the program. This book is fascinating, heartbreakingly sad in places. and yet proves redemption is possible with a little help from others, who suspend their judgement.
PAJARO BAY IS A BEAUTIFUL, MAGICAL PLACE TERI ISN’T THE ONLY PERSON WHO LIKES LIVING THERE, I SURE WOULD. SIGH! THE DESCRIPTION OF THE TOWN IS MAGNIFICENT, I COULD ACTUALLY SEE IT. I USUALLY COMPLAIN ABOUT OVER DISCRIBING USED IN SO MANY BOOKS BUT THIS ONE WAS DIFFERENT,THE AUTHOR DOES A HELLAVA JOB. WOW! VERY NICE WITH A TEENY TINY ROMANCE, THE STORY LINE WAS A LITTLE UNBELIEVABLE EVERYONE WAS TOO BOOKISH. 😉
Barbara Lee Cool's lyrical prose creates vivid pictures of Pajero Bay. The use of such descriptive language draws you right into this quirky town. Each of her characters has strengths and weaknesses that make them so real. As they deal with their own past histories, the light of hope and wisdom shines through. Pick up a book in this series when you want to be taken away into this magical world to lift you up.
Theresa had lived a life no young woman should but many do with no parental support and few options. Her inadvertent seeing of a gang member cleaning up the scene after a mans murder puts her own life in danger. What miracle can save her now ?
I really liked this book. We all make mistakes in our lives and for someone to work so hard to forget the past and move on to a wonderful future takes guts. The characters are so real and relatable. You don't see the ending coming. Ms Cool Lee has fooled me again. I can't way to see what the next book brings. Enjoy!
I've read all the books in the series and have enjoyed them all, this one didn't disappoint at all, as good as the rest.
Some characters follow through from previous books but they're standalone stories and can be read as such.
This particular story is about Teresa who is moved to keep her safe, only 1 person in the town knows about her past. Teresa soon integrates herself into the community and forms firm friendships, especially with her manager at the community centre.
She helps the local community, and 1 girl stands out from the crowd, but is she all that she seems?
I'm looking forward to the next book to be released.
Unique story line with characters you love. Watching the message of hope and acceptance get passed along was inspirational. A sweet mystery that says happy endings are possible. Thoroughly enjoyed.
An intresting story about a woman who saw something she should not have seen. Teresa had to make drastic changes to her life to escape from a criminal who wanted her dead. A very touching story. story
Quick, light read. This was book 7, but had it's own 2 main characters. Though, I did figure out the couple from one of the previous books. Book one was free on amazon yesterday, so I downloaded that so I can start from the beg.
Everyone deserves a second chance in life especially when the first one was horrific . Teresa gets that's and it is full of wonder as she sees the possibility this can have
Unusual story, involving loss, redemption, and the power of love! Pajaro Bay again provides hope and healing to several lost souls, all young, and family found for a bitter old man!
More of a fantasy that could happen if people allowed themselves to be forgiving, helpful and less judgemental. The wrap up conversation in the tower library, especially Vic's part, seems unlikely.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was well written focusing on real life adventure. I'm looking forward to reading more books written by Barbara Cool Lee.
