The story brings one face to face with events that shock, frighten, and make one think about their causes and effects. As a Profiler Lori was one of the best and as a human being even better. Lori and Walker complemented each other, and their relationship was charged with deep and real feelings. I really liked Lori's beautiful memories and how her character gave herself fully. The suspense kept me at edge throughout the story with its heartbreaking and at the same time compelling narrations and descriptions that made me immerse myself in the plot and feel with the characters. On several occasions I felt anguished by the reality that we are living and sometimes it seems that we do not see it. Lori's work, her deductions, and the investigative work that she and Walker carried out caught my attention. Good job from the author, I felt like I learned how to be more alert to details. The story runs at a good pace, with dramatic twists and for me, unexpected with its different angles. One of the best stories I've read about Mimi Barbour's Special Agents. Action, suspense, violence, unhinged villain, conflicting emotions, strong family ties, bartering, romance and passion. I voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received for free from Hidden Gems.
This story plays with topics ripped from the recent news headlines, and touches on a lot of subjects that some people would probably have preferred to remain untouched. I loved the chemistry between Lori and Beau. There’s an immediate trust between them that even the reader can feel and know that the whole story is in good hands. The sense of family, friendship, and second chances that permeates this book is perhaps my favorite part of it. That, and the tensely plotted mystery. (Even though I was a little horrified at how long it took them to pick up on something I thought was obvious. But that’s probably just my overly suspicious nature rearing its doubting head.) I really enjoyed this book, and I’m kind of distressed that it’s over already. I may have only just finished reading this, but I’m already looking forward to the next. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
Surprisingly sweet: I really enjoyed the tender and sweet aspects to this book which was a good counterbalance to the violence. It broke my heart at times and I really liked how it showed the awful circumstances that so many disgruntled teenagers face and the complexities that can surround school violence. I thought the mystery and suspense aspects were well done and was I kept on my toes, never quite guessing which direction the story would take next. Despite these positives, this book felt a little disjointed at times as if some of the information had been edited out. It needs more revisions and I also would have liked to have felt more of a connection to the main characters. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is the first book I have read in this series. It was a good read that I read in one sitting. It was also a bit of a tough read because the subject matter is currently so prevalent in our society.
Beau and Lori had great chemistry. It was easy to forget they had a serious case of instalust/instalove. The story was fast pace, full of action, danger, and suspense.
My original rating was going to be 5 stars. I was fully caught up in the story. Then it abruptly ended. I have a real issue with books that not only end suddenly, but they also leave me with unanswered questions.
I don't want a book to end with me wondering (1) what happened?, or (2) who was this person that appeared out of the blue?, or (3) why did that person act like that?, or (4) was he going to share his secret with Lori, or (5) what was going to happen to the criminal, etc., etc.? I am missing too many details.
I even went back and read the last 5 or 6 chapters again thinking I had missed the information. For example, I knew it was her Dad. Who was he? What did he do? Where had he been? How or why did he have that affect? Was there a history there that I missed? AGAIN, more questions. I would give this book 3.5 stars. I am frustrated.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book received via Hidden Gems.
This story pulled me in from the start and held onto me until the end. I felt a connection to the characters, thought they had good connection and chemistry, that they were good for each other and that they made a good couple. The story tugged at my heart and I loved that compassion was highlighted in this, that not everything is black and white, that there is more than one side to a story, and that it only takes one person showing they care to make a difference. I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving an ARC from Hidden Gems.
I received a free copy of this book, and I voluntarily chose to review it. This is a well written book with awesome characters. The subject matter comes right out of today's headlines. This one will make you stop and think about the shootings in schools. This may be a trigger for some people. This one I couldn't put down. This is worth your time. Take your time with this one or you will miss something.
Wow.... absolutely brilliant!! I received an ARC copy of this book via Hidden Gems and I'm voluntarily leaving a review. Mimi Harbour is a new author to me and I'm so glad that I decided to review this ARC. What an absolutely thrilling storyline, Special Agent Beau Walker and Special Agent Lori Page are thrown together to solve the crime of the killer in the schools. Brilliant storyline, fantastic characters and absolutely loved the HEA.
With this being the fourteenth installment in the Undercover FBI series, it is a great book that deals with a subject close to home and hearts for many - school shootings. Ms. Barbour does an amazing job writing on such a serious and heart-wrenching subject matter. Even though this is a subject that may be hard for some to read about, it held my interest and kept me reading well into the night. The story is well written and has a nice sub-story with a sweet budding romance and a bit of humor thrown in. In my opinion, this series just keeps getting better and better, and I look forward to reading many more books in the Undercover FBI series.
Special Agent Walker is just one of the great books in this series. Each book is so different from th last book. I love that the writer doesn't waste your time with unwanted details or too many characters. I can't wait for the next book. I will admit when I saw it was about school shootings, I was worried, but it was handled very well.
In my opinion Special Agent Walker is one of the best of the Undercover FBI Series. It felt like Mimi Barbour took this story straight from the headlines. I felt the frustrations of Beau and Lori on how to keep our youth safe at school? Mimi Barbour gave me lots of suspense, anguish, surprises and love. I found the story focused a lot on family. I loved Lori's instincts, intelligence and loyalty. I loved Beau he is smart, protective and loves his family. Mimi Barbour kept me on the edge of my seat turning the pages. There was some surprises most won't see coming, I did figure most of the big details but not the finer details. In my opinion if you like the Undercover FBI Series you should read it. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
One FBI Profiler follows her instincts when she spots a boy acting suspiciously and Agent Walker spots a woman following a boy and follows her when a school shooting occurs. Both agents take down the shooters. Later, both agents are drawn in when a second shooting occurs the next day. The chemistry between the two agents is profound and they work together well. Agent Walker has some secrets of his own, but it's nothing that Lori Page cannot handle. What amazes me about this story is how this psychopath manipulated teenage kids to do such horrible things. The worst is who and what this Ray person is actually capable of doing.
I almost didn't read this. The subject . . . But I enjoy this author and this series is on my auto get list. I have read touchy subjects by this author before and they have been handled with respect and empathy. Although this was uncomfortable to read at times and it won't make the favorite of the series list, the author did do a good job of maintaining her respect and empathy for the subject matter. She also maintained her skill of writing an entertaining story with a good mix of action and romance. The story held me riveted, with only a few "icks" with twists that were fascinating.
Lori's day was not starting well. Her car crapped out. She ran for the bus luckily the driver waited. She was playing her game of making up stories about the other passengers. Something about this kid caught her eye. Then she saw a rifle. He was heading toward a school. She quickly followed. Beau saw Lori wondering what she was up to quickly parked his car and followed her. Another amazing Mimi Barbour story. I was having trouble turning the pages fast enough. Regular breathing was nearly impossible.
This is a story with a haunting topic. Beau and Lori are FBI agents who are tasked with an investigation that hits very close to home. This is a pulse pounding page turner with some big surprises. The characters are well developed and captures the imagination of the reader. It is a also about the romantic love that blossoms as Beau and Lori work together and find that they have many things in common. It is a wonderful and interesting story that is sure to evoke strong feelings in most readers.
First book I have read and was not lost! Well done. This was heart wrenching in so many ways with the youth of today and with foster homes. This packed a wallop but had some light hearted moments. There was a surprise along the way I didn't see coming along with a twist and some hope in the epilogue. All in all a great first read for me by this author. I appreciated the toughness and the caring both Walker and Lori had. I felt there was one loose thread that was not tied up. The resolution with the perp and the appearance toward the end at crucial scene - that deserved to be expounded upon in my humble, not an writer, just a reader opinion. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #specialagentwalker #undercoverfbi #mimibarbour #saranapublishing #hiddengems
This is one of those books you can’t put down once you start it! It was jam-packed action from start to finish…and oh what a finish! The storyline is totally kick ass; the characters are downright amazing; plot twists and turns are unbelievable; and the HEA was totally hard-fought. You definitely want to grab this one—it’s amazing! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was totally blown away by it!) ❤️❤️
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and it didn’t disappoint. While the story was good, I noticed that the author doesn’t really go into much detail with her steamy scenes and I think I missed some of that with the books I normally read. I enjoyed both Beau and Lori and liked the background story of each. I would recommend if you like romantic suspense stories. I received an advanced copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
She has always known to trust her gut, he has always had a rule of not messing with coworkers. Tragedies bring them together, but can they figure out who is behind them before it is to late?
Have to say, this book took some spins I wasn't expecting. I liked how he was protective and his actions towards those he loved. I loved seeing her do her thing and how her mind worked. Good read!
I think this is probably my favorite Special Agent book so far. SA Walker is assigned to investigate a school shooting at the school his Goddaughter attends. It takes a whole twist that I wasn't expecting, and makes me wonder about things I never considered before.
This was an enjoyable read. I loved the plot especially the heart wrenching topic of school shootings. I loved Beau and Lori together. Story was well written. I only wished we’d had a resolution regarding perpetrator.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Very touchy subject matter. School shootings are a trigger. The kids are abused, in foster care and trans. Beau is a player who I did not like. The whole Millie family situation was unbelievable. Will skip this author going forward.
I was totally drawn into the story. This might be fiction but school shootings and targeting vulnerable children is a growing concern. Great characters.
