Hunter Jones and the Crucible of the Middle Ages

Rate this book
This quest for the crucible may be the trial that destroys Hunter.

Mistakes have been made, and Hunter Jones is determined to right her wrongs. Her broken heart and thirst for redemption lead her on another adventure, this one to Scotland as she seeks the crucible that will save the werewolves from the vampires who are out to murder every last wolf.

But this time, Hunter is no one’s fool. She understands the magical world just enough to know that everything is not as it seems and her allies can easily turn into her enemies. The tall, dark stranger the wolves send to accompany her is supposedly there to help her, but can she trust him, and will her divided focus be the death of her?

I adored the first book in this series. Even though a midlife crisis usually brings all kinds of unpleasant changes, I think Hunter’s are mostly on the positive side of the scale. Discovering previously unknown family, a Legendi birthright, and a new job that she excels at. Plus, a maybe Fated mate. Now, the “maybe” part of that equation isn’t so much of a positive, but perhaps the Crucible, an artifact linked to True Loves, will give her the answers and absolution she seeks. It’s so much fun to see how history and myth weave together to create some fascinating possibilities in this series. I actually would have loved for this story to have been even longer. There’re some questions I still have that mean I’m already looking forward to the next book to find out more.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.

This is actually about 3.5 stars, but I can’t do half a star. I love the book, and the plot, characters and storyline are all amazing. If it was an audiobook or movie it would likely get 4-5 stars from me. However I can’t get past the spelling(?) errors (*not sometimes it’s spelling but sometimes it’s that I’m not quite sure what word it was supposed to be) and that there’s no flow in a fair amount of the book. Be it traveling or steamy scenes, there seems to be a trend of no transition. The MC will go from doing one thing then doing something different and there’s no transition from point A to point B. I spent a decent amount of time rereading a paragraph trying to figure out how we got where we are and what happened.

With that aside, I adore hunter and her seemingly midlife, not quite crisis. Her development from what happened pre-series and now has been awesome to read, as well as her growth and self confidence. The plot is steady and I love seeing her get to explore and do all the things she always wanted to do as far as traveling and exploring while finding artifacts. Even if it is usually Indiana Jones style dangerous, and her father may or may not approve. There’s also plenty of steam between real life, and her own deep dark thoughts. All in all, love the characters and series. Just a bit confused throughout. Still want to read the next book though.

The only consistent thing about these books is the inconsistentcy.

I love the idea of these books but the execution is just not there.

The point of view constantly changes in a really confusing way. We are getting Hunter's point of view, and then suddenly we are getting someone else's (sometimes seems like the author's but also one of the other character's?) in the middle of a paragraph.

Baedrys randomly appears and disappears.

We learned at the end of the first book that Exeter lost his ability to shift into a dragon because he was drained by vampires but now he only can't shift because of some wards that the witches made on their island?

Sebastian is in love with and guarding a dormant vampire but it's just blown over and does nothing to actually progress the story.

Who was the random woman burning on the pyre next to Hunter and Exeter?

Hunter is a vampire now, no big deal, it only happens so she can breathe underwater and battle Nessie for a second.

Hunter randomly has fire powers, I guess.

The spicy scenes happen out of nowhere just for the sake of having some spice, it seems.

"Oh, the vampires are calling to my blood and a vampires is watching me through the window! Let's go outside and have sex."

Also, who threw the knives? It doesn't matter. It was just to establish Roth as Hunter's temporary protector.

The premise of these books is such an interesting idea. It just needs to be written differently.

Hunter Jones and the Crucible of the Middle Ages is the second book in Melle Amade’s – A Midlife Magical Adventure series. Hunter is back after her success at locating the missing sword of Excalibur which both helped her to side-step a marriage she didn’t want, and to gain a place at the Crown Academy where her father worked. Now, she’s contacted by a new paranormal seeking her help to find the missing Crucible that can save them. With little to go on, she goes on this quest, but not alone.
This installment to the series has it’s ups and downs, but lacks a substantial amount of cohesion. This book feels more like random thoughts put together than a thoroughly thought out and fleshed out story. There are some places where the story flows well, but then it breaks apart and becomes random pieces put together.
Details are seriously lacking with this book. Hunter is asked to take on a “mission” and she asks few questions, and off she goes. The individual she goes off with is given one name, and then the name changes to something else completely. There are scenes that don’t come together at all, which left me wondering what exactly was going on.
I wanted to enjoy this book more, but I just couldn’t get into and stay in the storyline.
3.5 out of 5 stars.

Hunter is at it again! I really enjoy this character. The new discovery of self at her age makes for an interesting twist to the paranormal story as she finds out of the world parallel to ours that she had never imagined. The settings of Ireland and Scotland draw this Irish girl's heart right into the story from jump. This installment is the perfect length for an adult adventure in the middle of a trilogy. I adored it and can't wait to see how it al wraps up with book three, especially the parts with Exeter.
Though I have to say the book did need an editor. There is a lot of grammar and spelling issues and there seemed to be a name change midway through that confused me. This isn't typical for this author so it was probably a rush to publish issue, but I think it would still be beneficial.

Hunter barely had the time to comprehend the changes in her life, discovering her fae heritage, meeting her father, finding the Excalibur, and letting a (sometimes) annoying dragon shifter into her heart. Now that she finally plans to spend the summer time with her father, she is dragged into another quest - a quest she cannot refuse, and has no time to think through. Her journey takes her to Scotland, meeting witches, vampires, and shifters, facing endless dangers, and going through challenges she hasn't expected.
Adventurous and fast paced, the second book in the series is full of twists and turns, emotional turbulences, drama, and mystery. I love Hunter with all her strengths and flaws, her golden heart and her insecurities, and the way she is capable to find a way when all seems impossible. Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

Book 1 was promising, i loved it but i got a little disappointed with this one. Yes the midlife crisis was a good idea when Hunter discovers she is part fae and she is attracted to a dragon etc...now adventures continues as the wolves are in danger from the vampires and requires her assistance in finding the crucible, magical artefact that could save them.
so far so good except that as the story evolve we get more questions than answers and so twists without more explanations feel "wrong "

Some characters are great, i like sebastian the gargoyle.

I kind of feel it was a bit rushed and would have been better a bit longer if it offered some explanations. Now we must wait the next book to see if the story feel whole as this opne end on a big cliffhanger

Another quest for Hunter in a supe version of the Holy Grail. The idea is good and the new characters are interesting but we never really spend any time with them. Ideas and flow of the writing seem rushed and not well constructed. A bit more time needs to be spent in editing. I had higher hopes for this book after reading the first in the series. Crossing my fingers that the next one is better! I tend to give high marks for anything creative because this is someone’s heart and soul being put out there for people to enjoy and I don’t want to squash creativity, but this one needs a bit more work.

Another brilliant quest!

Hunter Jones is back and on the case. True to form there are all kinds of bumps in the road, and supernaturals after her....still new to this world it's highly entertaining to watch her find her way, and best those already in the know. A certain hunky dragon *may* make an appearance along the way 😉. I'm really enjoying seeing Hunter grow in her knowledge of her abilities and also this entire new supernatural realm she's just discovered. All in all a really quick, fun read. I look forward to seeing what trouble Hunter and her friends get into next 😉.

The second installment of Hunter Jones and the Crucible of the Middle Ages by Melle Amade is a great continuation of this series and is a captivating paranormal women’s fiction tale featuring a midlife heroine and will suck you right in! Amade’s mastery of world building, character development and unique take on magic, lore and fantasy retelling!

Learning to navigate this new and exciting world, Hunter Jones is slowly starting to come into her own and learn from previous mistakes. And with the addition of new characters to this story, the suspense and intrigue and steam is slowly growing and I can’t wait to see where Amade takes us next!

Great Story, could use some editing

I really enjoyed this quick and fun story—Hunter and Exeter are an interesting couple and I enjoy following their journey. I look forward to seeing where the rest of their journey takes them.

I love the little pieces of history that each one provides! It’s set in the absolute perfect locations—Ireland and Scotland both seem so steeped in magic!

This one did have more errors than I normally see in this author’s work though—and could definitely benefit from a look by an editor.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series so I was looking forward to this second one. I really like Hunter; she has been done wrong by her cheating ex-husband, and she is afraid to trust again. I really enjoy Exeter; he’s very alpha-type character, but I do wish we could see more of his dragon form. LOL! This was a good addition to the series, and I’m interested to see what Hunter has in-store for us in the next installment. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Fantastic book!

Melle brings us another fantastic book! Hunter Jones is off on another exciting adventure with Exeter and others. While she now knows more about magic, she also realises that she doesn't have enough knowledge to see all that can happen and that alies can quickly become enemies and vice versa. Beautifully written with complex characters and plot twists, this is a great middle of her story. I enjoyed reading this story and highly recommend it. Don't miss out on this book!!

Hunter is back! All set for a holiday in Switzerland with her father she is instead tasked with finding The Tornblood Crucible by Karin, the wife of the pack leader of the Kelvin River Wolves.
I loved this story, it was perfectly entwined with the first book so although this entails a different story, different setting, different artifact there was a crossover of characters and the events from the first book triggered this story. This was quite an exciting story with wolves, vampires, fae, witches and even a gargoyle! A recommened read and I look forward to the next book

Continues the quirks and questions in this midlife cozy mystery series

Hunter, a former archeology professor, has found herself stuck on a quest she is ill prepared for. As the story progresses she has to travel swiftly, she needs to get answers quickly, and in the end she may have to act quickly. Hunter Jones and the Crucible of the Middle Ages continues the quirks and questions in this midlife cozy mystery series.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

Hunter (FMC) is forced into another adventure in the 2nd book in this series to find The Crucible a chalice that can help the werewolves that she met in the first book. Only as pretty much like book 1 tis crusade isnt as simple as first thought. Werewolves, Vampires and Witches all want to get their hands on it. What i loved about both books was Hunter's wit and sarcasm which at times is funny to read. Im enjoying reading this series so much. Im looking forward on getting my hands on more books in the future

Hunter jones is back and the adventure continues as Hunter is determined to right her wrongs! It’s a quick fun read as we follow her to Scotland as she hunts to find the crucible to save the wolves from the vamps. It’s a great supernatural read that takes you on a fantastic journey with some fantastic characters, mystery, suspense and intrigue. It was also great watching Hunter find her footing as she cleverly navigates the magical world where surprises spring up and all is not as it seems. I am very excited for the next book.

This picks up right where book one finishes, Hunter is slowly learning about the supernatural world she has discovered she belongs to, and is charged with finding another artifact.

This is part of a shared universe, with several of the author's other series, and I'm loving learning more about the world as a whole.

Several plot lines from the first book are picked back up, which I was happy to see, it feels integrated, rather than a collection of stories in the same universe.

I'm looking forward to seeing where they go next!

This book did not flow as well as the first one, but it was still a very interesting read. This book has unfortunately continued the pattern of introducing a far more intriguing and attractive love interest to Hunter and then letting things suddenly fizzle out leaving the reader not as interested in the main love interest. I really liked the addition of Sebastian and I am looking forward to reading more about him and hope he gets his HEA with his true love.

It’s hard to say no to adventure when you were held back for so long. After all, isn’t that what archaeologists do? That plus a smidge of guilt pushes Hunter Jones into her next world wind journey, with a hunky sidekick. Yum! This journey takes her away from her father-daughter bonding time and leads her down paths unknown. I hopes he knows what she’s doing. Werewolves, vampires and witches. Oh my!

Hunter jones

Just love this fmc still getting used to the fact she’s part fairy and a teen . In faery that is. She’s up at it again now searching for a crucible. Never alone she invites her dragon love. I think these two are so cute together not discounting Roth. I loved the adventure in Scotland finding Nessie and some horrible witches and vampires too. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Hunter and what the adventure will hold.

So, this story picks up pretty quickly from where book 1 ended. I found that the events unfolded at a fast pace - which is not necessarily a bad thing - and well, it was another journey for Hunter. She grew quite a bit, and I enjoyed it. Can't have been easy to be her at times!
I would have liked a bit more "oomph!" but this definitely was an enjoyable read. I like the mythologies and lore mixed in. Looking forward to the next one.

Hunter Jones and the Crucible of the Middle Ages takes us on another quest filled adventure with Hunter and her friends! It was fun diving back into this world, learning more about the different supernatural entities with Hunter, and seeing what is next as she encounters interesting and sometimes dangerous situations. With sprinkles of history with the mythology, I thoroughly enjoyed this next adventure and I am excited to see what is next for Hunter!

This was such a nice quick and fun story. Hunter and Exeter are a great couple to read about, and following their journey in these books is great. I can’t wait to see where their journey is going to take them next. I love that we get a piece of history in these books, and it doesn’t feel like a boring read! Even though I love history sometimes, it can be a bit daunting to learn information, but with these books it’s fun!

Looking forward to the next journey!

As always I love this series. I really enjoy the relic hunt. Hunter jones must find the crucible to save the wolves! I got a little lost with what happened to the old fae that was tagging along the way. I know she really wasn't an important character but I feel like she was there and included and then just not talked about. I feel the end left us with so many unanswered questions. I am ready for the next book in the series. I need to know what happens. So good!!!!

Hunter Jones is at it again with the supernatural shenanigans. There was much more action and it was a lot faster paced than the previous one. I enjoyed seeing Hunter learn more about magic and see how she reacted to all the different situations she got herself into. And there’s also a certain dragon to get to see again. I’m excited to see where things will go next and what other adventures Hunter will get into.

Excellent second installment in the series. These characters are so well developed that they leap off the pages. The world building is unique and interesting mix of magic, lore and the beliefs of a middle aged woman of education. Exeter is hot lol. I love him as a love interest. I can’t wait for the next book . Definitely recommend.
