Bought this immediately after finishing the first in the series, Under the Covers. This second book was really disappointing.

The first problem was early on. Mac says something about wine being for pussies. Now, we love tough Alphas, but that's just being an asshole.

But, we gave Ms. Adams credit because of how much we enjoyed the first book, and love how she writes sex, which continues in this book. The love scenes are smoking hot and very varied.

Then we got to a point that made us wish we owned this in paperback so we could throw it against the wall.

When Mac and Kevin go undercover to get Sweetheart, a plan that Cyn is fully aware of, she follows them. But when she sees Mac being all sexy with the evil drug dealer he's been trying to catch for years, she turns into a jealous shrew, makes a scene that could have easily ruined the plan and gotten them all killed, then goes home to continue throwing a fit.

No. Just no. Did she hit her head and get brain damage in a deleted scene? Nothing about her behavior makes any kind of sense. It's stupid fake conflict out of nowhere.

If Mac had been flirting with a random woman at the rave, okay. Syn is (appropriately) unsure about his feelings for her. But the whole point of going there is to get in with Sweetheart to bring down her drug/orgy/murder business. Syn thinking her guys are really into this woman is ridiculous.

We can't comment on the rest of the story because we didn't finish it. There's no coming back from that kind of stupidity. A real shame from an author we thought had some real promise.

We're more than willing to suspend disbelief for erotic romance (see first sex scene in Under the Covers, but this went too far.
