I fell in love with my best friend, but he only ever loved me like a sister. So I moved on—with idiots.
In an attempt to ignore the fact that my best friend, Ty, would never love me the way I wanted him to, I dated a lot. I even got engaged to Ty’s cousin. Except my ex-fiancé wasn’t the man I thought he was. When he broke off our engagement and fled to LA, I was left devastated and emotionally wounded.
Leaning on Ty—the only man who has ever stayed by my side—I drowned myself in work and helping Ty renovate his new house. When Ty confesses he’s in love with me, I’m torn. He’s all I’ve ever wanted, but I’m scared, shattered, and nowhere near good enough for him—something my ex made sure I knew. How can I risk a relationship with the one person I can’t live without?
His North Star is a sweet contemporary romance with a sprinkling of heat.
When not reading or writing (which is rare), Amanda loves to travel, camp, spend time with family and friends, and eat chocolate chip cookies—or any other excuse she can come up with to avoid doing housework. She lives in the Rocky Mountains with her husband and three children.
A lovely, sweet romance! I'm all for the best friends turned lovers trope. Such a delightful, fun read. Maren and Ty have such a wholesome, hopeful relationship. Loved it!!
Ever since her fiance dumped her, Maren Meyer's mom and her best friend, Tyler Montgomery, have been trying to get her to move on by setting her up on dates with progressively weirder and more random guys. The problem is that Maren's not ready to move on; she's still working through the emotional abuse inflicted on her by her ex, which she's kept a secret from everyone around her. The other secret she's keeping? Maren's actually been in love with Ty since they were sophomores in high school. She hasn't admitted her feelings because they've never been single at the same time, and besides, she has good reason to believe he only loves her like a sister. When James, a friend of Ty's from college, moves to town and starts pursuing Maren, she decides to give him a chance. Could he be the man of her dreams...or will the competition finally make Ty realize what he stands to lose by letting Maren move on with someone else?
I've (thankfully!) never been in an emotionally abusive romantic relationship, but even so, I couldn't help but empathize with a lot of what Maren was going through in terms of negative thoughts and self-image. From my own experience, it doesn't matter how many times people tell you that you're good enough; until you believe it for yourself, it won't make a difference. I loved that Ty kept trying to tell her how wonderful she was, however. I also loved their banter and how playful they were with each other, as well as the fact that Maren had a legitimate reason for not telling Ty about her feelings besides her fear of losing the friendship. The one thing that might have improved the reading experience for me is if the story had been narrated in dual POV. I wanted to understand more of what Ty was thinking when he was trying to set her up with the other guys. He explained his reasoning near the end of the book, but up until that point, it was somewhat frustrating for me not to understand why he did so.
This story definitely had me in my feels at times, but overall, I very much enjoyed it. I'd recommend "His North Star" for all fans of sweet/closed-door contemporary romance and look forward to the author's next release.

A cute story. Very slow start. It took a bit to get into. Main thing that annoyed me was at the beginning when Ty was dating someone else there were multiple moments that almost felt like cheating for me.
Was super cute and I loved it once they got together. But overall the characters annoyed me for most of the book.
"Maren, do you honestly think that's how I view you? I love you exactly as you are. I loved you before you met my worthless cousin. I love you now after he fed all those lies to you. I loved you when you tried to push me away. I loved you when you were broken and crying. I've loved you through every twist and turn, and every high and low. Why would now be any different? Don't you see? My love is not conditional."

I loved Maren and Ty's friendship. They took such good care of each other and each knew how to best lift the other up when they were feeling low. They have great banter and chemistry and my favorite parts of the book were when they were together. We only get Maren's POV in this book (I would have loved to get Ty's as well) so we aren't aware of why Ty has said and done some of the things he has until the end of the book. I just realized that this is listed as Book 1 in a series. I really hope that James (Ty's college friend) will get his own story in the future.
Favorites: * Cooking Together * Decorating Ty's House * Stargazing * Meddling Brother * The Seniors at the Community Center! * The "Tourist" date * The First Kiss * The Epilogue
*Content Warning: Maren deals with the aftereffects of being in an emotionally abusive relationship (prior to the start of the book). Also, there are a couple of accidents that happen, but they are off page. We see the hospital and the recovery time.
*Thanks to the author for the ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I'm not sure how it happened, but over the last week or two, I have found myself reading several books using the best friend-to-love trope. This is always a trope that I enjoy because there is always such a good history to build upon. And of all that I've read recently (which have all been amazing as well), I feel like THIS one really showed that more than any others. The relationship between Ty and Maren was just absolutely wonderful... and it was not just the romantic chemistry and the pining (so, so good), but the friendship as well. It felt absolutely genuine and I couldn't get enough of them. And when they finally get together? Perfection.
At the beginning of this story, Ty had a girlfriend and Maren dates someone as well a little bit into the story. I don't typically enjoy a love triangle (or square, maybe?), so I was a little hesitant about that at first. I do feel like this one was done well so in the end I found it didn't really bother me as much as others have in the past.
Overall, I really loved these characters and their story... I didn't want to put it down! If you're looking for a good friends to lovers sweet romance, this is one to check out!
**I received an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.
WOW! I absolutely loved this book! I read it in a day! I just couldn’t put it down!!! Best friends to Lovers is quickly becoming a favorite of mine! It was the right amount of banter with sparks flying off the pages!
What I really appreciate the most is how sweet their bond is. Neither wanted to risk losing their friendship by taking the next step. I am SO glad that they did! While it is a slow burn with some miscommunication, the story itself is fantastic!
Maren’s self-growth was lovely to see - the realization of the toxic relationship that she was in and that she was worthy of love was heartwarming. Ty is wonderful! So sweet, supportive and gentle with Maren when she really needed it. And vice versa.
There were times when the everyday running of the B&B dragged a tad but overall, it was a page-turner. The epilogue was wonderful! I do however wish we knew more about Landon’s son...even a little history there would have been great (like who is his mom).
This book and characters are so relatable. I would love to visit their B&B. It sounds like my kind of vacation!
Overcoming fears and self worth issues to accept the love that’s always been there
Interesting story. I loved the Bed & Breakfast family business although it unhealthily consumed their time and energy. I was glad that by the end of the book they were trying to find a better work life balance. There are a lot of details of small town life, being in nature, and enjoying relationships with older ones.
Overall it felt a little slow to me but that could just be based on my expectations of how soon events in the book would take place. The description of the book actually showed what happens up to the 84% mark in the book. So it kind of felt like forever getting to Ty’s confession. I was curious as to how things would work out so I kept reading despite it feeling slow to me.
It had a woman’s fiction with surprise tragic events drama feel to it more than romantic comedy. This is a single POV.
Rating: PG, clean, recovering from an emotionally abusive ex boyfriend and dealing with self worth issues.
first of all, this book was amazing! i was lucky enough to get an arc copy and i am grateful. i tend to read romcoms over romances with heavier topics, and this one had some really real topics and tragedies and was tearjerking at times. that is not to say that i didn’t still love it, because i definitely did. i loved Maren and Ty’s relationship, friendship and romantic relationship. they are so close and it is amazing. the characters were so lovable and tho i was sad and terrified for them at times, these big incidents and accidents really let you feel the emotions the characters are experiencing and it gives you a deeper love for them and you really get to know the characters better. the story was so sweet and i loved watching Maren and Ty go from friends to lovers. they have such a deep bond and real relationship from the start and that makes them a perfect couple. and all of the 🔥 kisses. 😍 this book was amazing and i think everyone should read this story.
If I were rating just the first half of this book, honestly I would rate it lower - but I stuck with it and enjoyed the ending. The beginning felt too much like a triangle for it to be my preference, but I know that's a trope that many people enjoy. I did enjoy Maren and Ty's friendship and care for each other, and the writing isn't bad, just not may favorite tropes put together and it took me a little off guard at the start. There's a lot of build up leading to the couple proclaiming their care for each other, and while I like slow burn, it did feel a little long.
This story is so realistic that I sort of fell in love with Ty. And Maren is also very relatable. I love how both friends are afraid of ruining their relationship by admitting their true feelings to each other, maybe because it happened to me ;) Unlike Amanda's other books (which I also love), this is not a romcom, and it was very well done.
Maren is Tyler’s best friend. Tyler is Maren’s best friend. Blake is Maren’s ex fiancé.
Maren and Tyler have known each other since middle school. I like the slow buildup of friendship amid the trials of each having other partners, finally wake up and tell each other they are in love.
This book has romance, humor, friendship and wonderful characters.
I love Ty and Maren's relationship and the friend-to-lover trope. The author does a great job building memorable relationships and romance. I love the setting and how much nature plays a role in the story. It's an engaging book!
Maren and Ty are besties that have been in love forever, but never told each other. So, they keep dating other people. Cringe. There’s a significant amount of innuendo. Otherwise it’s pretty cute.
This book is so good!!!! I’ve read a few of Amanda’s books and I’ve loved them all! This one was no exception! I didn’t want to put it down!!! Such a cute love story. I totally related to the story line and totally swooned while reading 😀
I really enjoyed this fun, sweet and swoony romance. Ty and Maren are childhood friends and have a hard time admitting their true feelings. This is a fun best friend to more story.
Great story! Really enjoyed it. I downloaded another of her books right after reading this one but this one was far better in my opinion. Definitely recommend it.
I genuinely wish I could give this zero stars. Plot? Couldn’t tell you what it was about AT ALL. Characters? Underdeveloped and highly annoying. Not at all worth the read.
What A wonderful story of two bestfriend 's who secretly was in love with one another. I listened to it on tape but it was also A good family Drama book to with both family 's.
Ty and Maren will have you pining for a best friendship like theirs. Unfortunately timing hasn’t worked in their favor until now and one of them is willing to risk it all for what could be.
You’ll laugh, wonder why you’ve never watched a rugby match and crave pie after this one. ”Holy guacamole” the kissing scenes in this book are 🔥. You won’t regret this read.
Thank you Author Amanda P. Jones for the ARC! I am voluntarily leaving a review. This book couldn't be any lovelier if it tried and I'm here for allllll if it! Tyler has had a crush on his best friend for a long time and he even had to withstand her engagement to his cousin. After Blake breaks things off,Maren is scared to try again. The feelings she has for her best friend are scary and besides,he's seeing someone. Will things always be hit or miss with them? Get this book and settle in!
