Sinclare Brothers #1

Return of the Rogue

Rate this book
Marriage was her only means of escape . . .

Though Honora Tannach came of age amid the misty moors of the Scottish highlands, where warring clans battled to the death for the future of their wild land, nothing frightens her so much as a lifetime trapped in the castle of her cruel stepfather. She is thrilled when a marriage is arranged to the son of a Scottish laird . . . until her betrothed is revealed to be Cavan Sinclare. Though the savage warrior once saved her life, Honora knows no one can tame the heart of such a brute, no matter now finely chiseled his features or how enticing his eyes . . . .

After escaping his captors, Cavan's only concern is protecting his clan from the menacing invaders who threaten at every turn—and his beautiful wife is a dangerous distraction. But in the face of fiery passion, their reluctance will fade . . . and Cavan will discover that there is no greater strength than the power of true love.

Part 1

The hero was tormented.
So was I…
My tolerance came to an end at chapter 21. I am sorry-not-sorry to say I had enough with the hero’s previous capture and abuse as well as with his guilt of not having been able to rescue his brother.

There was lack of chemistry between the mcs, who were flat and uninteresting.

Audiobook Review: This is a first time listen/read by Donna Fletcher a new author to this reader. As I listened, I thought the story was well-written and transition well to the end. I liked the heroine, Honora Tannach and how she overcame her overbearing abusive stepfather. Although she was a bit naive at times, she managed to rise above and become a strong wife for the hero, Cavan Sinclare who had alot of scars and healing he needed to overcome in order to take his place as the further laird should his father dies.

Although theirs was a marriage of inconvenience on both parties because neither wanted to wed each other. The couple made the best of it and as hero gradually let down his defenses, he began to see the bride he had and the love he could give her. The intimate scenes were on point...not to bawdy but nicely written.

What can I say about the narration. Antony Ferguson performed and I am a fan of this narrator. He narrated the story very nicely and it was worth the listen. This would have been a 5Star had it not been a bit slow and leaving a tad bit of a cliff hanger on finding the younger brother.

2.5.

It had a slow-moving plot (or maybe I just found it uninteresting), repetitive, and it could have been shorter.

Poor murder mystery. Was it vital? I liked the character that died. Couldn't the author have killed off some other minor character? Villains easily dealt with that were they even a threat to begin with?

There was potential for tons of angst, and maybe to other readers, there was angst, but for me, the angst didn't give me that pang in my chest that I wanted.

I liked this book, because IMO, it's not your run-of-the-mill Highland romance. The Hero is the eldest Sinclare brother, Cavan, who was captured in a bloody battle against a Barbarian (Mordrec) when his younger brother, Ronan, falls in the battle. Cavan tries desperately to reach Ronan before the barbarians take him as prisoner, but he fails. And then is separated from his brother and tortured - not just physically, but mentally with images of how his younger brother is being tortured and dying.

But Cavan escapes his captivity a year later and returns home.... arriving just as his second brother, Artair, is about to be pronounced man and wife with Honora, a dark-haired, violet-eyed, meek step-daughter of Calum Tannach, an ambitious, brutal, cruel man. Except that Calum declares that Honora *isn't* married to Artair, she's actually just married Calum by proxy, since the wedding contract stipulates that Honora must marry the *heir* to the Sinclaire clan. And with Cavan now returned, he's the laird's heir.

Cavanis still dealing with his perceived failure of being unable to save his brother and of being unable to discover and help his brother escape. He's lived as an animal for a year - locked in a cage, left in his own filth, beaten and tortured, and barely fed. After escaping, Cavan has done what he's needed to do to survive. But he feels foreign being back home again - he feels the "beast" in him is still too raw, too angry for him to live or be the man he once was. And he *definitely* doesn't want to be married... and certainly not to mousy Honora.

Cavan met Honora 10 or so years back, when she was playing in the forest. She saw and heard a horde of men on horseback coming her way, and in a panic, she fled thinking that they were barbarians on a raid. But in her panic, Honora headed right for the cliffs and would have plunged over them if not for a brave rider who snatched her away in time. That brave rider was Cavan.

Honora's stepfather Calam tried to marry her to Cavan before his capture, but Cavan declined, saying that he needed a brave, strong woman to stand by his side, not a woman afraid of her own shadow. But Cavan doesn't realize that Calum has physically and mentally beaten Honora since marrying her mother when Honora was very small. Honora's mother died when she was about 8 years old, leaving Honora to deal with Calum on her own. Honora's learned that standing up to Calum only results in more beating and mental cruelty; so she's developed her own defenses, mostly her calm, cool head and her quick wit. She's been able to outwit Calum and have a modicum of freedom in the forest and the moors.

When Honora met Artair Sinclare, she saw that he was kind. While she wasn't sure she wanted to marry, she knew she had no choice, and she thought that at least she might have a good life and some freedom with Artair. But when she found herself irrevocably married to Calum, Honora was beside herself. Her new husband barely looked at her and refused to sleep in the same bed with her, preferring instead to sleep on the floor before the hearth. Honora knows that she must be sure that the marriage is consummated or her stepfather will probably kill her, because the shame of Cavan's rejection will haunt her and make her unmarriageable. She tries her best to be a good wife, but she doesn't know how... especially not in a family such as the Sinclares, where there are servants and ways that she's not used to. And Cavan intimidates and frightens her. Still, she keeps herself well-groomed and sweet-smelling and tries her best to show him that she's a dutiful and obedient wife.

Honora is confused by Cavan's reactions. One minute he's almost feral, the next he's kind; one minute she thinks he'll take her on the spot, the next he's pushing her away. What Honora doesn't realize is that Cavan is afraid of his "beast", and while he's not thrilled with his new wife's shyness, he feels she deserves a loving, gentle husband and a loving, gentle first sexual experience. The two slowly find their way together when Honora determines that being married to Cavan is a much better life than she had; it offers her protection from her stepfather and a chance for a loving, happy marriage. And Honora will do what she can to have that loving, happy marriage. So the two begin to talk, and Cavan comes to see that Honora is a prisoner just set-free from cruelty and abuse, too. His protective side comes out, and he teaches her how to defend herself against unwanted attacks. And in doing so, Cavan falls in love with his wife.

But there's unrest in Sinclare lands. Rumors keep coming about Ronan, and each time, Cavan flies to try to find Ronan. Then Tavis Sinclare, father and laird, is killed - a dagger to the heart. Everyone knows that Tavis was a great warrior; whoever killed him was someone that Tavis thought a friend, not a foe, and wasn't on guard against. Cavan is sure that this somehow has to do with Mordrec the Barbarian, but he doesn't know who on Sinclare land is assisting Mordrec.

When Honora is captured, Cavan must face Mordrec to get her back. And he's willing to give his own life to set her free.
-------------------
While Cavan generally fits the description of the "tortured" Hero, I found his demons more realistic and less annoying that the usual fare. He's not wallowing in self-pity, he's filled with righteous anger... and misplaced guilt at not being able to save his baby brother. But his behavior shows that he's a changed man; Cavan's afraid that his "beast" might never be tamed. And his family and clan all seem to want the Cavan back that they knew before, but how can that be? Cavan has forever been changed by his experiences. And he has to live and work through those horrors to find who he is now.

Honora might be the beautiful, innocent Heroine, but she's not the usual "spunky" sort. Her wit and personality don't really come to the surface until she makes up her mind to love Cavan no matter what; until she trusts in his protection and forges a bond with him. Her unconditional love and acceptance is what Cavan needs to heal, and she offers that in abundance. Her gentle, unassuming ways are what he needs. And because Honora didn't know the Cavan-before, she places no expectations on who he is now - she simply accepts him.

It's a compelling and beautiful story. So why did I only give it 3-3.5 stars? Because there's so much MODERN about this story... modern phrases and attitudes that are out of place in the 16th century. I'm sure that the author was trying to relate to the audience and not burden them with how life really was - all the traditions, etc. But it's jarring to the reader. And the "mystery" isn't so much a mystery... it's so obvious that you want to shake the characters into realizing it!

So while this book can be a good read, it's not a great read. And I admit that my standards are high. It's tough for me to give a 4-star rating and almost unheard of for me to give a 5-star rating. So keeping with my rating system, this book is only a 3.5.

Donna Fletcher is one of my favorite authors of steamy HRs, and this book delivers on most of my "musts:" interesting plot; likeable main characters; touch of mystery/suspense; steamy goodness. Cavan is the eldest of 4 brothers born to the laird of the Sinclaire clan; as such, he has always and continues to feel responsible for the well-being of his younger brothers - the youngest (Rowan) in particular. In a battle some months ago, Rowan was injured as Cavan called for his clan members to withdrawal given their substantial deficit of fighters as compared to the ones the barbarian tribe they were fighting presented. Despite the fact that the path to reach his brother was littered with barbarians, Cavan was desperate to reach Rowan, even if it meant just being there so that they could die together. Though he felled many of his opponents during his charge, he was ultimately captured just as he reached Rowan, and they were separated. Cavan spent months in a literal hell where he was caged, exposed to fierce elements of weather, fed slop, and left to waste away. His only focus was to learn what had become of his brother and to escape to free him.

At the start of the story, Cavan returns to his clan to learn the brother closest to him in age (Altair) married Honora only moments earlier; however, the way that the contract was worded (that Honora would wed the future laird of the Sinclaire clan) meant that Altair had married Honora in proxy, and Cavan was obligated to take her to wife. Honora's step-father (Calum) was very adamant from the start that his step-daughter be wed to the future laird; a few years prior to the current contract agreement, he had approached the laird and asked that she be wed to Cavan, but Cavan refused believing that Honora did not possess the qualities he needed in a wife: primarily strength and fortitude as he believed her to be a timid mouse from his few previous interactions with her. Honora may have appeared that was to Cavan as she had learned long ago that she must bend to her stepfather's will if she were to have any freedoms as Calum was a cruel and physically abusive man. Though her mother attempted to protect her from her step-father, she was often unsuccessful, and when she passed away 5 years earlier, Honora was left completely alone to deal with Calum's daily abuses. As she was aware of Cavan's feelings toward her, he was the last man she wanted to be married to, and now that he had lived in conditions unfit for rats, she feared he would be even more difficult to share a life with.

As Cavan starts to realize there is more to Honora than he previously believed, he also fights an internal war with himself as he feels he is responsible for Rowan's capture and is obsessed with finding him; until such a time, he is adamant that he does not deserve happiness, and certainly not love. Though Cavan's demons make it difficult for Honora to reach him, she persists, and soon finds herself falling in love with the man she knows is honorable and deserving. But how does she convince him that he is worthy of happiness? And is there more to the capture of the laird's sons than meets the eye?

What I liked:
--- The story line was interesting and not as well-trod as others in the genre
--- Significant character development and likeable MCs
--- Steamy goodness (once we actually got there)!

What I didn't like as much:
--- (Sight spoiler) In the time they lived, a marriage had to be consummated to be considered official; Cavan's standoffishness and his refusal to allow himself any pleasures actually placed his clan in potential danger as he was the successor laird, and if his marriage was not a true one, it could have been invalidated, so it was unrealistic for things to go as long as they did without consummation of any kind
--- The "mystery" aspect of the story fell pretty flat in the end and was disappointing as it seemed that there should have been more to it than the motive and "villains" of the story presented

Overall, an enjoyable story with some yummy loving and likeable characters.

Plot --- 4/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5
Steam Level* --- 3/5
Violence --- nothing graphic
Language --- not egregious
POV --- 3rd

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild; 2/5 - sensual but nothing descriptive; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere; 4/5 - yes please! ; 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

Return of the Rogue is a story that I had totally forgotten about that was on my TBR wishlist. I was reminded of this by Jenn at The Book Refuge (YouTube) and her love for the series brought me back to my own love and affection of this author and why I wanted to read her more and this series has definitely been on my list. So I read this one as the week long readathon for historical romance and I was very delighted to do so. Highlander historical romance is probably one of my favorites to read and I had a blast discovering the depths of this author's lovely writing once again and this wonderful family I fell so hard for.

So Return of the Rogue is the first installment of the "Sinclare Brothers" series and this book features our two leading roles: Honora Tannach is entering into an arranged marriage that was arranged when she was young. But right when she is about to marry the man she thinks she is supposed to marry....her fiancee's older brother returns from being held captive and now she will marry Cavan Sinclare due to the writ of the contract she is destined to marry the heir and oldest born. Cavan has just returned from barely escaping from being held captive and tortured alongside with his brother but Cavan wasn't able to take his brother with him and they were separated and feels guilty for what he had to do and is determined to find him no matter the cost. The marriage between Cavan and Honora starts off with a big rocky start, but as they learn to build a trust in each other, it starts to smooth over, but will their enemies break a hold of their powerful love?

Return of the Rogue is a fantastic book that I had a blast while reading and while its not my favorite of this author, I couldn't seem to get enough of this book or the angst between this pair here. Its a story that builds within its plot and the author did a superb job in crafting a story that keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. The romance that we see between Cavan and Honora is an interesting one. I do love a good arranged marriage, but these two are almost complete strangers on their wedding day. So seeing them work through that awardness and find a balance was one of my favorite aspects. Honora is wonderful with Cavan and really knowing when to fight her battles and when to back down. I liked that she didn't push Cavan too far especially as he has some PTSD from being held captive and tortured. The romantic affair between them is what is really beautiful to see. Because Honora wants a husband and is determined she can be a good wife to him. Cavan is very occupied with finding his brother no matter what, so I definitely loved seeing a love happen between these two especially with the outer conflicts causing some drama within their relationship.

The family dynamics of the Sinclare family was delicious and I had a blast with it. I just couldn't get enough of their banter and their fun interactions together. The strong bond between these brothers are so fun and definitely got a kick out of seeing them work through it all. And seeing the close kit relationship between them was just beautiful. I was heartbroken in parts of this story (due to certain plot points that I don't want to spoil) but I appreciated seeing them be a strong support for each other through it all.

Overall I found Return of the Rogue to be a fantastic story that won my heart in every way that matters....a highlander romance that features a beautiful setting, strong family bonds, and a love to applaud.

Disappointing read. I'm surprised at such high reviews. The first 275 pages is the same thing over and over. You could read the first and second chapter and skim to the end. The whole book is the Hero blaming himself for not saving his younger brother, yet at the end there was still no closure on that. I guess that is why there are other books in this series, but I honestly am not interested in finishing this series. The story in this book could have been told in under 200 pages and not left anything out. The mystery was really no mystery, and there was nothing exciting about this book.

I was suprised by how much I loved this. Normally I get really frustrated by heros like Cavan and they ruin the book for me, but for some reason I adored Cavan. The main problem with Cavan was that he was a complete jerk to Honora a lot of the time. And she was generally forgiving about it, especially as time goes on. Usually that is enough to seriously drive me crazy. However, in this book Cavan is generally aware that he is being a jerk and does feel bad and try to explain himself. And considering that he just escaped from a year of capture by barbarians, he is probably suffering some serious PTSD so his moods are pretty understandable.

I even understood his reasoning for not being happy (another thing that usually drives me crazy, the whole "I don't deserve to be happy" thing). His brother is still captured and Cavan got away, and since Cavan has known since birth that he would be clan leader, he feels that weight of responsibility even more.

I feel like I really made Cavan look bad in this review, but I seriously loved him. He is so drawn to Honora, and I love them together (even occasionally when he's being a jerk).

All in all, I never thought that I would find a book that held two things that I hate in romance novels and make me love them. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

description

This book was great.

It centers around a forced marriage where neither the bride nor the groom were keen on marrying the either. I loved the characters and the story and the author does a great job showing (not telling) how the relationship grows over the course of the novel and I was left with happy sighs at the end.

Now, I haven’t read any reviews for this book, but I’m sure there are some people out there who feel that Honora, the heroine, may be a bit of a pushover and takes a lot of unnecessary shit from her man, Cavan.

Those reviewers have a right to their opinions but
description

Honora is a medieval ride or die bride and she has patience for daaaaaaays (actually months). Seriously, the girl is patient and understanding and loving and a whole bunch of other positive attributes and she maintains all that positivity without dipping her toe across the line into rolling-my-eyes-this-heroine-is-so-annoying-ville where so many other heroines take up permanent residence.

And Cavan, the hero…..

description

He is a tortured soul (due in most part, to enduring actual torture) and he acts like a giant a-hole to his wife SO many times. Cavan is battling a ton of inner demons and acts out, directing most of his anger to his newly acquired wife he was forced into marrying and while that should make him a nightmare, I don’t hate him a bit. He redeems himself in so many ways and changes throughout the story due mostly in part to Honora’s patience and love.

I didn’t give the book 5 stars for 2 reasons:

1. Honora and Cavan didn’t hit the sheets till after the 50% mark.

description

Seriously, it took waaaay too long for these two to get down to business.

2. The book started to drag after the 70% mark. It could have been 50 pages shorter and nothing would have been lost.

Anyway, I will be reading this author again for sure!!!

Rogue? What rogue? This guy is a bloody saint! A piece of paper! A cardboard box!

Highlander stories are always an enjoyable read. The guy is smoking, the girl perfect, the villains are clones across books. It is almost guaranteed a few hours pleasantly spent with a book on the Highlands.

But I guess I have reached a point where merely pleasant is sufficient.

Oh don't mind me. Had I read this book a few years ago, this might turn out to be my favourite. But after reading so many books on the Highlands, as well as books that fill my porn shelf, I guess not being disappointed is not enough. Looking back, the cookie-cutter stereotype of a Highland hero, heroine, villian, plot and romance now seems tepid and boring somewhat.

However, it is likely that I would be picking up another book on this series before I take a hiatus off the Highlands. Ronan's story has piqued my interest, if nothing else, and I admit that I am mildly curious to see what happens to the poor lad.

I would still recommend this book to any fan of the Highlands, as well of fans of Fletcher. However, if you expect any more detail in this story, my advice is, pick up any other Highlander novel.

4.5 🌟's !

if you’re into..

⚜️enemies to lovers (like he thinks she’s weak and not a good fit for a wife… soooo…)
⚜️forced/arranged marriage
⚜️slow burn (slowwwww🔥)
⚜️age gap
⚜️broody scottish laird

…then this is the book for you! i read this in one day and it was so!! good!! the perfect slow burn pace with the angst and development of their animosity-turned-chemistry was just chefs kiss 🤌🏽 / there’s lots of darker themes here regarding the hero’s PTSD as he returns from being kidnapped/tortured of a rival barbarian clan + scenes talking about and depicting the heroine’s abusive stepfather so.. be wary before jumping into this as well!

can’t recommend it enough tho, very excited to read the books following the other brothers! ⚔️

This historical was so much fun!
I have not read a highlander novel in a while, so I found this one very entertaining.

I really loved how we really got to see our heroine grow and learn to stand up and protect herself throughout this book! I love how our hero just slowly started to become a softy towards her :)

Reviewed @ Girls Without a Bookshelf

I'm not exactly sure how Return of the Rogue ended up as my afternoon read but I do know it probably took the expressway. I simply wanted a romance novel to spend my afternoon with and found myself attached to the story of the Sinclare brothers. As you may have guessed, the fact that this has diverted me from my official to-be-read pile means I favour this book!

Return of the Rogue is a charming highland romance novel - not that I read many, mind you - and set my standards for the succeeding books in this particular series quite high. It follows the story of Cavan, the olders of the Sinclare brothers and the joy and upsets of his unexpected and unwanted marriage to Honora Tannach, a 'mousy' woman he so thoroughly dislikes. Scarred and broken from his being captive to the Barbarians, Cavan is riddled with guilt at failing to save his younger brother Ronan from the same hands. The novel follows Cavan's marriage and his family's attempts to rescue Ronan from the barbarians' hands.

As already mentioned, Cavan Sinclare is a broken man - the novel is lengthy at its description of Cavan's tumultuous thoughts, of his guilt and the effects of both on his character. There were moments where I wanted to skim read over his reveries but reading through proved useful as the plot progresses; mind you, these were merely at minor times as I did enjoy Cavan's thorough development. In fact, all characters are well developed; Honora for her part is provided with sufficient history and uniqueness I have no complaints whatsoever. The rest of the Sinclare brothers are also very well described; they are easy to relate to and are quite an entertainting company. Their bond - brotherhood - is evident and is a huge driving force in the plot.

The plot itself is amazingly generous. Mostly, it paves way for a complete development of character and builds the essential foundations for a romantic storyline. It strengthens the chemistry between the main characters, so I was rooting and cheering and hoping for their love to be known to each other. I also enjoyed the sub-plots, which are not too many to be overwhelming. I'm surprised at how the book quite easily took me to a different time in history; most of the time I grapple with such change but it was easy with this book. Wonderful!

The only negative thing I can comment on is the limited array of characters. With such small number of characters - mostly the Sinclare clan - readers are able to familiarise quite intimately with each and every one, which I have no doubt will suit many. It develops these characters very well and each are bountiful in their individuality. However, this also causes the plot to become more predictable. Given the numbered characters it was easy for me to pin-point who the culprit behind it all; the clues that are showered within the plot are no help either - they were too well-timed to be dismissed, which might probably leave readers with too little to guess.

Overall though, this is a really good book. For romance lovers, grab this and enjoy the Sinclares! I am personally reading the next in the series.

This was my first read by Donna Fletcher and I really enjoyed it! I'm a sucker for a highlander romance so I'm excited to have found a new series to delve into. I enjoyed the angst between Cavan and Honora and how they slowly fell for each other. And I loved seeing Honora grow into a confident woman who was able to stand up for herself against her abusive step father.

Tropes: enemies to friends to lovers, arranged marriage, slow burn, broody hero.
Tws: abusive parent, kidnapping, PTSD.

OK story. I think it is supposed to be Scottish/HIghland themed but this story could have been staged in any period with any particular theme and would not make any difference.

The best part of the book is Donna Fletcher's way of telling a story. It was easy to continue and the prose flowed naturally. The story itself is plain, characters unmemorable, but easy to like. Little angst and struggle. I probably won't read it again. I have read the youngest brother's story before this book, which is the oldest brother's story. I do like them as characters, but will not continue reading the rest of the seriess, unless the prices are reduced significantly.

ESP:

ENG:
Just starting, this book gripped my heart with the heroine's suffering. Some might say she's a meek woman, but I think it's portrayed very well how a victim of domestic violence is. And I suffered with her and was glad about every little victory. And I also liked our tortured hero who's uneasy and jumpy because of how his captivity has affected his personality.
With all that (added a marriage of convenience) it was the perfect recipe. However, there were some things that didn't do for me.
When the characters start acknowledging their feelings things get pretty steamy but also very cheesy. I was all on board with the steamy scenes but after the eighth time, I heard a confession of love I was rather tired of it all.
The other thing I wished was different was the "mystery". Would've like it done in another way.

Honora Tannach makes her vows to one brother, and the next thing she knows, she's married to another. Not just another, but the brother who had rejected her as a potential bride, and who intimidates the hell out of her with his harsh demeanor.

Honora's not hard to intimidate—the reason she was rejected in the first place. Her stepdad has been abusing her since she was a little girl. And it's her stepdad who got her into this fix. Seems he made sure the marriage contract said she'd wed the Sinclare clan's future laird. With the current laird's eldest son Cavan MIA and presumed dead after a battle with barbarians (I would dearly love to know when this is supposed to happen in history and who the barbarians are supposed to be), the brother she exchanged vows with was the next at bat.

Wouldn't ya know, just as the "I do's" are said, Cavan stomps into the church, having escaped the barbarians. Her father insists that the contract be enforced, and the cleric rules that the marriage is valid, but the younger brother acted as proxy for the future laird. So voila, Honora's married to the guy who never wanted her, and he's not all that nice about it.

Cavan's not nice about much these days. His time in the cruel captivity of the barbarians, whoever they are, turned him a bit bestial—he had to be a beast to survive. Plus he's guilting because his youngest brother Ronan was also captured—how can he try to be happy in his life when Ronan is still suffering? So he acts like an arse for a good part of the story.

And naturally, Honora finds a way to fall in love with him anyway.

Meanwhile, it turns out that there might be more to Cavan and Ronan's capture than first thought, and danger lurks around Clan Sinclare….

There's a bit (not much) of mystery and sleuthing, and a nice dab of adventure at the end. Sadly, there are the usual malapropisms, as well (does Avon even employ editors?). Stuff like, "…he had remained vigilante in his spying attempts."

I had to knock off half a point for that. 3.5

Orijinali Kitap Esintisi adresinde.

The year was the late 1500s. The place is the Scottish highlands.

Honora Tannach’s stepfather, Calum has arraigned for her marriage to the next laird of the Sinclare clan. Honora does not mind as she has gotten to know her proposed husband, Artair a little bit, so he isn’t a total stranger to her. Much to Honora’s surprise, she comes to discover on the day of her wedding that she is not to marry Artair but Cavan. To add insult to injury, Cavan does not want Honora; much less any wife.

Cavan didn’t know what to expect about his homecoming after being gone so long. He had been a prisoner of barbarian leader, Mordrac. All, Cavan did know was that he did not expect to be married. Will Honora and Cavan make this marriage work or was it a lost cause from the very beginning?

Honora has a very caring, honest, and friendly nature about her that just makes everyone around her fall in love with her, including me. Then there is Cavan, who is strong, brooding but a good protector. Honora and Cavan meshed well together. I admit that I am impressed by how much I liked Return of the Rogue. I read this book with ease. It is books like these as to why I enjoy reading this genre of historical, romantic novels. I plan on reading more books by Donna Fletcher.

I found this book beautiful!
I cant explain it but it filled my chest with warmth.

I loved how immensely understanding Honora was, you dont see that much anymore. We seem to not have the time to care or the patience to deal, not even with ones we claim to love. And with Honora it didn't start out with love, better said it was forced.

I loved of real and tangible Cavan felt. I loved how he struggled with returning home. No im not into M&S :p
Its just his struggle with each and every aspect, every minute detail showed how truly human he is. It wasnt all,
"Ah, at last i am free and at home... la da dee la da dum... now back to living my life like before. "
His struggle, his guilt, it made all the more admirable to me.

and these words...
oh! how they make you wish...

He raised their locked hands to kiss the back of hers.
"We are one, you and I, and always will be."

I cant wait to read the next books. Oh so anxious! :D

4 blazing warm stars :)
