This is a companion to the adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel. The volume features more than 120 movie stills, costume designs and production materials, as well as excerpts from the script and the novel.
I liked the whimsical way in which the book was written, with the typical style of Márquez much like his other books. What I did not enjoy however, was the helter skelter way the plot developed and the stark triteness of the story. It seemed like a love story dedicated to the happiness of affluence where the girl dumps the love of her life for a rich doctor but returns to her lover half a century later when he is wealthier. Surely, it is not too superfluous to interpret the protagonist as a gold digger. I also resented the hackneyed way that Paris was portrayed, myself having been to that city that is anything but charming.

What a monumental waste of time. I was excited about reading this book because I had read good reviews of it. Then I actually tried to read it. It was incredibly slow going and the storyline was horrid! I only made it about a quarter of the way through before I gave it up and just read the sparks notes on it. When I read the sparks notes and found out the storyline, I was immensely grateful that I hadn't bothered finishing the book. It's all about a really torrid love story with many people and no morals. UGH.
They didn't list just the book by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but they should. Who cares about the book based on the movie? Love in a Time of Cholera is absolutely wonderful! It is the perfect love story and there were several times that I was completely shocked and would go running to my roommate to tell her all about it. I can't wait to read it again.
I love the author and enjoyed the book. However, he is so diligent in the details. This adds depth to the book, but I at times felt myself bogged down trying to get through it. However, as I read the last page I realized that I was appreciative of the details and I have added this to my favorites list.
this book profoundly affected my view on the power of love and what it means to keep that eternal flame going for one person through your entire life, regardless of whether they are in your life or just hanging out on the outskirts looking in
I hate this book. Too bad, because I think it could have been a beautiful story. This writer had wrap around sentences that were so long that they failed to make sense. It was brutal from start to finish and if I wasn't reading for bookclub I would have trashed it.
