About the author

Andre Norton, born Alice Mary Norton, was a pioneering American author of science fiction and fantasy, widely regarded as the Grande Dame of those genres. She also wrote historical and contemporary fiction, publishing under the pen names Andre Alice Norton, Andrew North, and Allen Weston. She launched her career in 1934 with The Prince Commands, adopting the name “Andre” to appeal to a male readership. After working for the Cleveland Library System and the Library of Congress, she began publishing science fiction under “Andrew North” and fantasy under her own name. She became a full-time writer in 1958 and was known for her prolific output, including Star Man’s Son, 2250 A.D. and Witch World, the latter spawning a long-running series and shared universe. Norton was a founding member of the Swordsmen and Sorcerers' Guild of America and authored Quag Keep, the first novel based on the Dungeons & Dragons game. She influenced generations of writers, including Lois McMaster Bujold and Mercedes Lackey. Among her many honors were being the first woman named Gandalf Grand Master of Fantasy and SFWA Grand Master. In her later years, she established the High Hallack Library to support research in genre fiction. Her legacy continues with the Andre Norton Award for young adult science fiction and fantasy.

Probably not a good sampling of Andre Nortons works. This collection is out of order, has 1, 2 or more examples of series out of sequence etc. Some I have read before, and sime I liked more than others. As a young teen I adored her space opera stories, like the Solar Queen series, bored by her Time Trader series, but as I grew older I started to pine for girl characters I could empathise with. As an older teen I loved Norton's later career switch from typical sci-fi to fantasy...the Witch World series are the ones to have stood the test of time for me. The rest I enjoyed as a YA at the time, but methinx they are dated and havent weathered all that well.

Entertaining reading 📚

Twelve very will written novels and novellas with interesting characters. Each story is different with lots of misdirection, twist and turns leading to each individual conclusion. I would recommend this box 📦set to anyone who reads Sci-Fi and fantasy. Enjoy reading 🔰2020 😮

I read this on Kindle and the stories were in random order, which was an issue because some of them were series. Thankfully I read that on a review and was able to read them in order.

Over the years, I have read and re-read Andre Norton stories. They never seem to get tiresome.

This is a collection of some of Norton's works, including three series. The arrangement of the books are in reverse of how they should be read, so I found myself confused at times until I read the next book which should have been read first. Known best for her science fiction space adventures, I was surprised to read a western series set during the aftermath of the Civil War, followed by its prequel which introduced the characters and explained how the previous story came about. The last story was short and somewhat apart from the others; it seemed to have been written by a much younger Norton. I recommend reading this collection backwards to get a better impression of the stories' evolution and the author's improvement over the years.

A collection of sci-fi intrigue!

A collection of Norton sci-fi masterpieces. I have always enjoyed her skillfully written adventures, of time travel, other world action, and intermingled sorcery and witchcraft. Her writing is masterfully illustrative, which grabs and manipulates, the reader's imagination until they are completely immersed in another world.
