About the author

Wegner was a German soldier in WWI who witnessed the Armenian genocide and documented it, most importantly with photographs. He was associated with German Expressionism and with Pacifism in the 1920s. In 1933 he wrote a letter to Hitler protesting his policies toward the Jews, which caused him to be arrested and tortured. He was recognized in 1967 by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.
