Reads R to L (Japanese Style), for T+ audiences. Misao and Kyo have traveled to the Tengu Village to end Sho's claim on the leadership of the clan once and for all. Misao knows there will be bloodshed, and things will only get worse if the battle is drawn out.But her attempt to help is thwarted by a cunning trap. Locked in with Sho with little hope of rescue, Misao has a terrible choice to make--betray Kyo or die a horrible, painful death!
This one was interesting - Misao was ready for battle against Sho. Will the tengu save Misao? Will she get her memories back? How is Sho so evil yet she used to like him? So many questions! I am intrigued if I'll be able to actually finish this series. I think I'm missing the last book of this entire series out of my collection. I will continue to work my way through them though!
The rape-y vibes are kind of weird for me, but I am liking going back through these. Especially since I don't one hundred percent remember what happened.
The sequence where Misao was trapped in the storehouse played out exactly as expected... until it didn't. I appreciate that Misao has her own ways of displaying strength, and of fighting back, and that was entirely in the spotlight, while Kyo's actual battle was not given a single panel. I also liked that Kyo's . Of course, that leaves things open for shenanigans later on.
Sho himself is a character type, much like Akito in Fruits Basket, that I have a hard time tolerating. They had a tough time when they were kids. So what? They're adults now, and their actions as adults are the result of their choices, not the manifestation of forces beyond their control. They're still abusers and I have no sympathy for them, even when the author is doing their best to extract it out of me. And I continue to be frustrated with "let's sexually assault Misao" being a primary driver of drama in this story. Time for another break from this, methinks.
This is 100% my guilty pleasure manga read. I just love this series so much. Misao is a great character who is just a bit shy, but ultimately can handle herself in most any situation. She doesn't rely on Kyo to get her out of every scrape. I also thoroughly enjoy Kyo's character. He's quiet, yet intelligent, pensive and protective, and he clearly loves Misao dearly. This is the kind of angst I can go for- the couple is together, affectionate, shows their love for one another, yet hasn't "done the deed" yet, for fear of risking Misao's life. Other clans challenge Kyo's claim for Misao, fights ensue, rinse, repeat. If you're looking for a good paranormal fantasy romance to sink your teeth into and just have a good time with, this is definitely it.
Black Bird, Volume 6 shows a new side to Misao that proves the girl, indeed, has some cajones. It's about time! It couldn't have happened at a better time. Right when I began considering giving this series a break, Misao does something unexpected and does me proud.
Reading these volumes, it constantly brings to mind a certain silly story about sparkly vampires and this hopeless, clumsy girl. I do not like having that story brought to mind so it began to feel like a minor annoyance. I'm happy Misao showed some strength because now I feel compelled to continue on with the series.
The flashbacks with Sojo gives some insight into his loathsome ways. The memories are questionable and throws doubt into Misao's mind about her childhood love. It feels like it might hint to a future love-triangle, but I sure as hell hope not.
I laughed so hard at the part when Kyo tells Misao to look up to avoid seeing something uncomfortable. The expressions were so funny. I still never get sick of seeing the adorable triplets. These kids should always be dressed up in funny costumes.
The ending is straight-up redonkulous. Pfft! Really?! As I mentioned in my previous review), this series is like a bad car accident.
Waaah, I hated Sho because of how deceitful he was, but what about his back story? What about Misao's memories of Sho?? Anyone a Mi-sho shipper here? :P
A very dark volume where once again Sho tried to rape and kill Misao. I was glad this time that she defended herself but also everything with Sho is so dark and violent. I did like the tender scene between Misao and Kyo when they were reunited. Also that cliffhanger ending 0 . 0
Trigger warnings for attempted rape, animal cruelty, violence between characters, blood kink,
Certain aspects of this volume seemed really like they were trying to ingratiate Sho with certain ambiguities, while also showcasing like seven different ways in which he was just a horrible person and sadistic from the age of like 5? I am not swayed. I do not like him, no later-in-life-realization is going to make up for the way he’s acted towards Misao and Kyo. He’s a shitty older brother and unfortunately was given far too much leniency as the “future head” when he was a child and it fucked him up.
The last chapter of this… Kyo and Misao just cannot catch a break. They came back from the world’s worst family staycation and immediately got hit with another weird, complicated, and fantasy politics motivated element of Kyo’s life. The reveals are never ending.
What I liked about this book is the part when Meiso goes in to the store house and then is in danger. She goes in the store because she thinks Keo is going to save her but she was wrong. The enemy captures her and then makes a landslide so Keo can't save her. She knew that she was going to be in danger so she put venom in her mouth that repells deamons. So when the enemy kissed her the gave the venom to him and then he was paralysed he could not move. Moments later the house was about to fall and burry them alive. Then the house collapsed Keo ran to look for Meiso. When he found her she wanted to get up and walk by herself because she has the venom and Keo is a angle and if the venom touches Keo then Keo will be paralysed or even die.

This is my least favorite volume so far and while I still couldn't put it down, I disliked the direction of the story and just felt very frustrated. I was disappointed with the build-up between Misao and Kyo's brother and I still don't understand how she is dumb enough to fall into this guy's traps every time. Like come on, girl, you have spent your whole life having demons try to hunt you down and harm you and now that you have Kyo's tengu feather around your neck, you just walk around all willy-nilly. I was so annoyed with this volume and also the last chapter's ending was not it. I forgot how much the random dragon plotline annoyed me especially since it is introduced right after Misao having to endure all that trauma and torture.
OMFG THE ENDING!!! THE GOD-LIKE BEING WANTS KYO TO SLEEP WITH HIS SISTER BECAUSE HE HAS THE SENKA MAIDEN'S - MISAO'S - BLOOD IN HIM OR SOMETHING!!!!! OMG I HOPE HE REFUSES HE BETTER REFUSE!!! OMGGGGG!! I LOVE THIS SERIES - AND I USUALLY DON'T READ MANGA :D --OMG, MISAO WAS SMART -USING THAT VIAL OF POISON TO PARALYZE SOJO, KYO'S BROTHER, WHEN THEY WERE LOCKED IN THAT BUILDING CUZ OF THE WEIRD LANDSLIDE!! OMG, AND THE STEAMY PARTS WITH KYO AND MISAO ARE SOOO ROMANTIC AND CUTE!!

What a suspenseful volume full of action and sacrifice. This series is continuing to impress me with the high level of emotion and tenseness.
In this installment we see the the culmination of Kyo and Sojo's conflict, and unfortunately Misao is at the center of it. But even when she is making a dumb decision she manages to do it smartly, thank god. It was also extremely Sojo heavy this installment, which was great, but almost none of the secondary characters got any face time. Totally sad, cause I love those little triplets and look forward to them all the time!
So we were left wondering why in ever loving H**L why our leading female protagonist walks right into a shed with a guy who is her lovers evil brother. Really this girl if she was real wouldn't be walking because of her stupidity. I like many aspects of this manga; though I'm teetering on the fence of dropping this manga. *screeching tires! Shizuku is going to drop something!* The saving grace so far has been: the folklore, some supporting characters and their back stories, and the art style. For now I'll continue, but if there isn't any improvement in a few volumes I'm going to drop it.
Misao feels useless and very human when it comes to her relationship with Kyo, as she is trying to be useful, Sho, Kyo's evil brother takes her hostage and tries to take revenge on her for choosing Kyo and on Kyo for taking the leadership.
The brothers are on the brink of a bloody war and all the other demon clans are waiting for blood.
Wow. Finally, a good volume from this series! Even though it's not great and it could have been better in many ways but comparing to the other previous volumes it is good. The story of Shou is interesting and even though he's "supposedly evil" but I felt pity for him.
Someone make a time machine so I can go back six years ago and slap myself silly for liking this series. This is such a horrid and abusive relationship that it's not even funny. I can't believe I used to like this.
This was an extra dramatic volume and when I originally read it I was afraid for Misao's...innocence...for lack of a better word. Too good of a series.
This story follows Misao, a high schooler who can see the magical creatures and spirits that are invisible to everyone else. This gift is merely an annoyance until her sixteenth birthday, when she gets attacked by a demon and discovers that she is the Senka Maiden, or bride of prophecy – a human whose blood gives unlimited power to the demon who claims her. Her childhood friend Kyo appears in time to save her, though it turns out he is a demon as well! Kyo is the leader of the Tengu (crow demon) clan, thus the name of the story. His intentions to protect her, however, seem to be pure – and Misao allows him to lick her wounds long enough to fall in love with him herself. Together they must face the challenges that come from courting the Senka Maiden, as well as the curse that befalls her once she bears the child of a demon.
This was a fantastic story! The characters were well done with bold personality traits: we can clearly see Kyo’s determination, his brother Soh’s treachery and underhandedness, the Daitengu’s loyalty, even Misao’s simultaneous naivety and bravery. And I absolutely loved the plot. Unlike Demon Spell (another manga featuring demons of Japanese culture), the story was very complete, with no detail left unexplained or unaccounted for.
*SPOILER ALERT* But my favorite part of all has to be the ending. Misao’s pregnancy is meant to lead to her death, but just when all seems to be lost, hope appears. Even if their ending isn’t perfect, it is happy, and you find yourself happy and grateful for the imperfection because it shows you how much worse things could have been.
