Geraldine Woods has taught English at every level from fifth grade through Advanced Placement, most recently at the Horace Mann School. She is the author of numerous nonfiction books for adults and children, including 25 Great Sentences and How They Got That Way. She lives in New York City.
This book is great! It's concise without all the technical terms and a great introduction to grammar without making it stuffy, shoving down information down your throat. If you're looking for a way to fix most common mistakes look no further. If you want to learn more there are obviously more detailed grammar books out there. But I think everyone can make use of this book. There are lots of examples and the examples are explained. Definitely going on my desk.
The book delivers a clear explanation of grammar rules. Moreover, it contains plenty of helpful tips for those who want to improve their everyday grammar, especially for IELTS preparation test or other careers benefit. However, I found it confusing in certain chapters because I have to turn back to the previous one in order to search the subject that I was looking for. Other than my holy grail grammar book, the Oxford English grammar book, I will also use Wood's book as my grammar guidance.
It is a well explained book, but not a holly Grail level of book you should keep in your bookshelf. It refreshed my memory about all the grammar rules though!
