Lynn began her writing career at the tender age of five with a series of illustrated novellas entitled Clinton’s Troubles in which the compelling hero found himself in all sorts of . . . well, trouble. She was living in Hawaii at the time and the scope for her imagination (poisoned fish, tropical cliffs, large spiders) was great and poor Clinton bore the brunt of it. After returning to the mainland, her writing gave way to training in classical music and Clinton, who had been felled with arrows, eaten by fish and sent tumbling off cars, was put aside for operatic heroes in tights.

Somehow during high school, in between bouts of Verdi and Rossini, she managed to find time to submerge herself in equal parts Tolkien, Barbara Cartland and Mad Magazine. During college, a chance encounter with a large library stack of romances left her hooked, gave her the courage to put pen to paper herself, and finally satisfied that need for a little bit of fantasy with a whole lot of romance!

Every time I read a book by Lynn Kurland, I'm reminded of why she's an author on my auto-buy list. Most of her stories fall in the 'time travel' genre and I just can't get enough of her MacLeod/de Piaget stories. She makes these stories seem plausible and probable...and that's no mean feat.

Sunny is a great heroine. She's the MacLeod's witch and her herbal remedies are well-received by her family and neighbors, especially since many of those neighbors come from a time when the only medicine available was herb-based! Then comes a knock on her door. She's faced with a gorgeous Scot who she quickly realizes is NOT from this century. With a pull from his hand she's yanked over her doorstep and back in time.

I want a Cam of my own. He's strong, yet can be so very gentle with Sunny. Even when she cannot save his brother, he's still determined to protect her even at the cost of his own life. Although at first he thinks she's daft with her tales of time travel, it's not long before he begins to believe...and when they are surrounded by enemies, he has a tough choice to make.

I laughed, I cried, I didn't figure out 'the bad guy' til the very end. I found myself wanting to knock Cam into next week and then throw Sunny in his bed myself!! Now I have no choice but to reread the earlier books in this series while I wait for the next one to come out.

Once I pick up a time travel, the bug hits me all over again and I want another as quickly as I can put my hands on one. Time travels are my favorite paranormals to read, and one of the best at them is Lynn Kurland. I’ve not read all of her books yet. I save them and savor them. I don’t want to run out of her books and have to wait a year or more for the next to be released. So, suffice it to say, I had a wonderful time reading this latest in her MacLeod series.

One of the things I really like about this series is that everyone in the MacLeod family knows there’s time travel portals all over their property. Jamie has even mapped the portals out and hands out a copy to everyone living there. That includes Sunshine Phillips, whose sister did her fair share of time traveling and ended up married to Jamie’s brother, Patrick. Sunny has decided to stay in Scotland at Jamie’s request. She loves the rain and tending her garden. She also longs for a man of her own, a man just like Jamie and Patrick, but knowing medieval men are hard to find in this day and age, she keeps dreaming while staying away from those portals.

Until one night there’s a knock on her door from someone asking for help. She agrees to accompany this handsome man who thinks she’s the MacLeod Witch. Well, in a way she is. He takes her to the Cameron keep where she finds a man dying and unfortunately she’s unable to save him. Eventually she figures out she’s no longer in modern day Scotland, but there in a time when dying in such a way is all too common. Robert Cameron is the laird who has a tenuous hold on his clan, and when she finds the portal near her home is not willing to allow her to return home, she has no choice but to stay with Cam and hope he can protect her from those who would do her harm.

Having lost his brothers in this latest battle, Cam now has no one at his back whenever his cousin decides to take Cam out of the picture and make himself laird. He’s tired of all the fighting, especially now that Sunshine is in his life. When things don’t quite work out the way he planned, he tosses his duty aside and goes to the future with Sunny. But those plans don’t work out just right either. Cam ends up in a time not his own, but there’s an eight-year time span between him and his love, a love he now can’t remember. And as much as Sunny wants him to remember once she finds him again, as much as she tries to help him remember, nothing works. Again, duty keeps him from her, so she decides to go back to the states where she won’t have to see him, long for him, knowing she can never have him.

Cam has other ideas, however, once he spends some time in Sunny’s company. He doesn’t know why, but she’s so familiar to him and he begins to fall for her. Even having to deal with those MacLeods is fine by him if he can be by her side. Asking Sunny to trust him, he goes about cleaning up the mess of his life, but even as careful as he is, Sunny gets caught up in the craziness. There’s a couple of interesting turns the plot takes, so if you think you have it all figured out, you’re going to be wrong.

I enjoyed reading about Jamie and Patrick and their families again. In fact, Jamie has always been my favorite Kurland character for a while now, but Cam is definitely giving him a good run for his money. Though he’s a medieval warrior, I love his sensitivity. The scene where Sunny and others pledge fealty to him is just wonderful. He holds his own with those MacLeod boys. Sunny goes through the ups and downs a woman does when faced with losing the man she’s waited so long for, but she always picks herself up and keeps going, making a decision when necessary and doing what she feels is right. As with all of Ms. Kurland’s books, I’m thoroughly taken with this one.

I dont even know where to begin. Im actually shocked this book has as high a rating as it has. The base of the story is good and that was why I picked it up. Here are the following reasons why this book sucked:
1. Sunshine wept through 3/4 of the book.
2. She was a 33 year old virgin, which is offensive in of itself. On top of that we dont even get the benefit of an awesome sex scene of losing said virginity
3. She started out with a little spunk then took a fast downward spiral
4. She swore fealty to a laird in the 21st century, which makes no sense.
5. An American who says 'lad' and 'aye', talked like a Brit half of the time and an American the other half.
6. All the Scots talk like Brits with a few lad, lasses and ayes in the mix.
7. Cameron was an over emotional woman, and I could never picture him as a strong leader.

There are so many more things wrong with the book I could go on all day. It was almost like the author was confused about nationality, time and characters to get it straight. Its unfortunate that this was first I've read of Ms. Kurland's because it will my last. I think its probably safe to say all of her characters in all her book will be the same as well as the story line. Its a shame so many people like this. I think if she had more crappy ratings, she might take the time to write a better story.

I loved Cam & Sunshines story, it was sweet and heart breaking, and they had some hilarious times too... Their medieval time together was beautiful, unlike some of the other MacLeod's love stories, I really read them falling in love, and therefore Sunny's heart break was just that. When he didn't recognize her, I felt awful, literally... I was frustrated at times, with Sunny, why she couldn't tell Maddy or Patrick or Jaimie or Zach or Ian or Anybody, about her time with Cam in Medieval time was beyond me... And I felt that blame was being put on Cam that wasn't rightly placed, like it was his fault his brain was bashed in, overall I think Cams story was the saddest, to lose his time and his family, and memories, to be completely alone, and then to find love in a sense but be unable to take it... As usual, all the background characters where great, some new and some returning characters. There where twists and turns all throughout, and a really enjoyed this story....

When you have a whole series of books that are based on a bunch of people from two families time traveling back and forth to the middle ages, you may start to get a little repetitive in the plots. Someone goes to the past, meets someone, debates where to live (past or future)...It could get repetitive. But not with Lynn Kurland! With the book, With Every Breath, she takes that formula and shakes it up but good! And this is one of my very favorite Lynn Kurland books! :)

Sunshine Philips moved from Seattle to Scotland after her sister married Patrick MacLeod. There, on MacLeod land, Sunny has found a haven of sorts. True, she is surrounded by breathtakingly handsome Scottish men, all of whom are very happily married, but she can handle that. She just likes the peace of hearing the rain fall on the roof while she sits in front of her fire. Until one night, Robert Cameron Mac Cameron knocks on her door and whisks her off to heal his brother. It takes her a few minutes, but soon she realizes that not only has Cameron whisked her away from her warm fire, but he has whisked her into the past. Into his past, where his clan is turning against him and he is terrified that he can't keep her safe.

This book out of the entire series had the most interesting premise -unfortunately, it also had the worst main character in the way of Sunshine Phillips. If I had had to read about her weeping, sobbing, bawling, crying, or tearing up one more time I would have tossed the book. Of course, the male protagonist, Robert Cameron, turned into what appeared to be a whining pussycat and that didn't help.

I'm glad I didn't give up though because it did have the most delicious plot twist that I didn't see coming and once the crying was done (If you can bear it) the book goes back to being very interesting and worth the read.

Don't forget folks these are CLEAN/SWEET romances!

I honestly cannot understand how this book got such high ratings.
It was simply horrible writing, with a storyline that had so much potential but was butchered into nothing but a string of terribly boring and repetitive scenes of our female lead whining, crying and moping about for almost half the book.

The book starts off interesting, in the first few chapters when our heroine Sunshine (Sunny) goes back through time and meets the hero, and they insta!love.
The interesting part quickly died down though, as she comes back to our time without him. Then ... the story just dies. She mopes, she cries, she whines ... but she refuses to tell any of her family where she vanished to for two weeks, what is wrong that she's always crying, or what happened to her.
Then Sunny meets her hero again, who is now living in our time. Her joy is short lived though, as she quickly determines he doesn't recognize her. MORE moping, crying, and whining ensue. All of Sunny's drama bombs finally reach their peak with her leaving Scotland to run back to America, and OF COURSE he runs after her to stop her.
*roll eyes*

Sunny may be the main female character of the book, but she is no 'heroine'. As someone who has lost a love, I can understand Sunny's despair. What I don't understand is her desire to endlessly mope about, shut herself off from the world, and make no effort whatsoever at resolving her issues and moving on.
Sunshine literally cries through two thirds of the book, yet I have no sympathy for her because she is doing nothing to ease her own suffering and instead prefers to wallow in it. She should have been named "Rain", as there is nothing sunny about her and she is always crying.

Our hero Cam is ... *shrugs* ... some guy from a medieval time who is described as jaw droppingly gorgeous and an excellent sword fighter.
A clan laird is supposed to have the best interests of his clan in the front of his mind, always - but instead, Cam is often too spineless to be a strong and respected leader of his people.
Literally, Cam is too nice a guy to compete with Giric. Therein lies the problem. Giric may be a manipulative slimeball, but I have no doubt that Giric would move heaven and earth to see his clan and their interests kept safe. I can't say the same for our Cam. Cam was not ruthless enough to be the laird of his clan - he is either not strong enough or overcompensating too far.
Oh, the book tells you what a swell guy Cam is, and how he's the best laird for the clan, and how even Giric's father thought he wouldn't make a good laird - but then it shows a much different story by their actions. When you are not respected by the people you lead, and you have to rule over them by the sheer power of fear when you leave a dead body in the street "as a message" - you are not going to be a clan leader for long.
Bottom line - Cam is really nothing special. He did not do or show me anything about himself that would make me remember him 5 books from now. Well, I might remember him as "that guy who cries far too much" but that's not a favorable impression to keep of a man.

The story itself has a good premise- it's just in the horrible writing that the plot dies and loses it's potential.
This book is almost 400 pages long, but it could have been cut down to a decent, interesting love story of half those pages or less pages if the idiot heroine would just OPEN HER MOUTH and talk to her family and her clan about what happened. Instead, she mopes about - mostly on the verge of tears or crying or rarely snapping rudely at her 'one true love'.
I did not connect or care about the hero or heroine, and I didn't care if they got a happy ending or not. I feel that Sunny would have been a better match for Cam then the shrew he was engaged to, because she would be a devoted little puppy dog to him. I didn't care enough about Cam to hope they got together though.

If you like whiney, spineless, passive aggressive, 33 year old virgin female leads who act out in desperate bids for attention and a romance story with lots of tortured longing stares and some kissing but no sex, then this book is for you.
The sad thing is - there must be a lot of people out there who DO like this kind of female lead, a sexy highlander easily moved to tears, and a long drawn out story of misunderstandings or the book wouldn't have such high ratings.
For me, it makes me wish I had a fireplace to burn it in.

I have not read this author before this book, and I have no plans to ever read anything by this author ever again.

I love every book that Lynn Kurland comes out with, and this is no exception .... with a small reservation that led me to really debate whether to give it three stars as opposed to four or a five. (Four, in the end, was a compromise.)

The story has Kurland's wonderful mix of time travel and characters, both new and familiar from past books, and the romance had me sighing happily.

Sunshine Phillips, who showed up toward the end of Kurland's "A Garden in the Rain", gets her own story here as she is transported to the past to try to help Robert Cameron, a Scottish laird surrounded by enemies who is desperate to save his severely injured brother. Their time together in Robert's time is full of danger, loss, and their growing love for each other, but their trip back to the present leaves them separated by several years until they run into each other by chance in the village they both live near. Robert has no memory of Sunny when they first meet again, and by the time he realizes who she is, he's caught a new family intrigue as dangerous the one he faced in the past.

The rest of the story is Robert's discovery of who Sunny is and their struggle to be together despite his new enemies. And here is where I ran into my one problem. Sunny, who was a funny and assertive woman in the small parts we saw of her at the end of "Garden" and who is just as feisty at the start of this book, cries so often once she's back in the present that I started to lose patience with her. I understood the trauma she'd been through, and tried to make allowances for the pain she felt when she and Robert met again and he didn't know who she was, but after a while I just kept wanting her to stop crying.

It hasn't stopped me from re-reading the book many times (it's stored in my bedside table along with all of my other favorite comfort reads), and it hasn't stopped me from loving Sunny and Robert's story. I just think Kurland gave Sunny too many bouts of tears, and in doing so weakened her character a little too much.

I love time travel, I love the highlands, and I love highland warrior heroes...so this book had an advantage from the beginning. Lynn Kurland has a way of making her readers fall in love with her heroes. I liked Cam so much I even had dreams about him. ;o) I liked the heroine Sunshine quite a bit, but her habits of falling into a puddle of tears every other scene got on my nerves by the end of the book. I was wondering what Cam saw in her and wished I could magically pull him out of the book to be with me, as I wouldn't bawl at the drop of a hat! LOL!! The other characters in this book were endearing and there were laugh out loud moments as well as "make you swoon" moments.

There was no sex scene in this book, which I did not mind at all, as the romance was enough to carry the book.

I won't bore you with another plot review, as many of the other reviewers have done a great job reviewing the plot. If you like Time Travel, Scotland, and Warrior Lairds...this is the book for you!

P.S. I would have give this book 5 stars but Sunshine's incessant crying drove me nuts by the end of the book.

I hadn't read one of Lynn's books for a long time, then when I realized this was on the library's shelf, I couldn't resist. What can I say? Her books make me happy! I grin while reading and I love the clean romance - as well as the magic of Scottland and the whole time travel element.

Sunshine Phillips (Madelyn's sister from Garden in the Rain) is now the official MacLeoud witch, taking care of the family with her herbal remedies and living in Moraig's hut. One night a highlander knocks on her door demanding her aid for his dying brother. Sunny goes with him and is transported back in time to help Cameron. This is where the similarity to other Kurland novels ends. The plot is very interesting and intricate, I had a slight inkling of what would happen, but it was still a surprise.

Great read.

I swear I read this for Book Club. And it's a good thing because I have a habit of not finishing books I'm not interested in. OK, I was interested in it, but not enough to want to read more. Don't get me wrong, Scotland, a Seattle connection, a woman my age... it's all fun. But if I am going to read romance, I expect a sex scene. Nuff said.

Cameron and Sunshine fall in love in 1375. They are escaping to the future when they are separated. Cameron to 1997 and Sunny to 2005. He does not remember her as he was stuck with knife and hit in head with rock. They slowly find their way back to each other. Read and see all the intrigue.

This was the very first Lynn Kurland book that I read (many years ago) and I enjoyed it so much that I had to go and buy the complete de Piaget/MacLeod series. On this reread I still enjoyed it, the combination of Sunshine (Sunny) Phillips (our heroine) wither herbal, healing lifestyle and Robert (Cam) Cameron (our hero) warrior, corporate strategist and CEO was great. It was well crafted and written and the impact of Cam using his medieval warrior skills to fight hid corporate battles was brilliant.
The battles that Cam was fighting in 13th C Scotland to keep his clan loyal, save the lives of his brothers (Breac and Sim) as well as himself were mirrored in the hostile takeover attempts of his company in the 21stC. Cam comes across as courageous, a fighter and a loner. Sunny, as a herbalist and a healer has adopted a more holistic approach to life and her views on this can get a bit tedious at times, but I did love her passion for her work. Both Sunny and Cam are great characters and the fact that Cam doesn’t remember Sunny initially just adds to their story.
The ending was well planned, realistic, and tied up loose ends. I did love it when Sunny and Cam’s staff pledged their fealty to Cam, a 13thC ritual that showed, I think, Sunny’s great love and respect for Cam.
An enjoyable read in the de Piaget/MacLeod series.

I liked the story and liked the characters but…TOO MUCH CRYING,WEEPING, LEAKING TEARS on and on and on. Despite earlier bouts of tears I only started keeping count on page 118 when she said she was “tempted to….burst into tears but she wasn’t a weeper”. 28 crying episodes later and I have to tell you that HELL YES she was a weeper! Similar weeping heroines in other books in the series made me vow no more. Who in the world cries that much? Annoyingly, it just gets in the way of a good tale

Time travel and romance is an awesome combination. Ah but add in Scotland and it gets even better! The books written by Lynn Kurland have kept my interest from the beginning to the end. You have the slip into the past and add in mystery and romance and you have a winning combination. This book is no different but you have the laird, witch/doctor herbalist and what the story unfold. I really like the way the characters grow and the families are brought together. Read and enjoy!

Good grief...enough with the crying already! Seriously, how ridiculous! I am embarrassed for her. And it was like a different Sunshine came back from the past - she was fairly badass in medieval Scotland but then a weak, weepy, irresolute, ineffectual hot mess in the modern day! I couldn't understand why Cam was with her when he only really knew the chick that cried constantly.

Random pick from a second hand bookstore. I did not know about the series so went in blind. I hadn’t realised that time travel was a big genre (my first review was that this was an Outlander rip off).

I was surprised how smooth it was. Best part about the books was that the characters were actually funny. Other than that I thought it was a bit too predictable and I DNF it.

I have a particular passion for time travel romances set in the UK. There are not many authors who write in this topic that I like and I have read ALL Lynn Kurland's books more than once. They are perfect light reads for vacations, summer days, whenever you want to escape.

I love the simple and discreet way romance is written by Ms. Kurland. Nothing vulgar. I just love her style. She brings back and develops previous characters and ties them together beautifully.

If the whole book matched the first 2 chapters, this would have been 5 stars. The story was great but there was too much crying from both our heroine and hero along with a lot of repetitive self reflection and
running away. I enjoyed the book and would still recommend it.

Time travel without the rich detail to even believe it was the past. Love at first sight, no real chemistry and ridiculous barriers between the characters relationship. Also a bit of a preachy abstinence story.

The first third of this book is so swoon worthy. The second third just drags on longer than I would have liked, and has so much crying! The end was really good, and the epilogue was okay. For a while I thought this would be as good as The More I See You, but no, that one is still my favorite.

This had a good premise but did not follow through for me. I had a hard time staying engaged with it. There was a lot of weeping, sobbing, bawling, crying which was very annoying.

There was a nice plot twist.

Clean with little to no language.
