Cotten Stone is een journaliste die vooral religieuze ontdekkingen wil onderzoeken en in de openbaarheid brengen. Helaas was haar laatste case vervalst, en heeft ze haar goede naam verloren, is ontslagen, en moet nu proberen aan de kost te komen bij sensatieblaadjes.
Ondertussen woedt er schijnbaar een plaag van zelfmoorden over de hele wereld.
Cotten vertrekt naar Peru om een opgraving bij te wonen, en er wordt een christallen tablet gevonden, met glyphen en andere tekens erop. De volgende nacht echter is er veel lawaai in het kamp, en als Cotton gaat kijken, ziet ze dat iedereen de hand aan zichzelf geslagen heeft en het tablet is verdwenen. Zij is de enige die aan deze waanzin ontsnapt is. Ze wordt gevonden door een plaatselijke sjamaan, die haar verzorgt tot ze weer hersteld is.
Dan blijkt dat Cotton vijanden heeft, die er alles willen aan doen om te verhinderen dat ze nog zo'n tablet in handen krijgt, want er blijken er meerdere te bestaan.
Alhoewel ik in verschillende reviews gelezen heb, dat men dit boek niet goed vond, ben ik het hier niet mee eens. Korte hoofdstukken, wat het boek vlot leesbaar maakt. Het thema sprak mij ook aan, al is het inderdaad een boek in de stijl van Dan Brown, maar dat had ik verwacht. Geen diepgaande literatuur dus, maar lekker ontspannende spanning.

Se trata de un libro que sigue la senda de Dan Brown. Es decir, resulta sencillo de entender pero a mi no me parece que esté escrito especialmente bien. La prosa no es armoniosa y en algunos puntos es complicado entender las situaciones que describe porque no lo hace con detalle. Realmente se trata de un "libro de acción". El autor quiere que notemos que no paran de ocurrir cosas a un ritmo trepidante, hasta el punto de que la noción del tiempo que transcurre entre los acontecimientos se pierde. Respecto al argumento, no ha sido especialmente de mi agrado. Muchas de las obras de este género hablan de la religión y de Dios desde un punto de vista bastante pragmático —o más científico, si se prefiere—. Es decir, se basan en que los hechos contados por la Biblia pueden ser hechos históricos, pero no intentan ir más allá. En "El ultimo secreto" hay un Dios, un Satán, ángeles, demonios y un guerra que toca a su fin. Mientras, la Iglesia es una estructura que realmente vela por nuestras almas. La protagonista es una periodista —hija de un ángel caído redimido— que dedica su vida a buscar pruebas acerca del creacionismo, al más puro estilo del diseño inteligente. (SPOILER) Y todo eso para que al final a la muchacha le hubiera bastado con leer el conocido "El Secreto" para obtener la llave con la que salvar a la humanidad, evitándose el andar recorriendo el mundo en busca de las dichosas tablillas escritas del puño y letra de Dios. En mi opinión, se pasaron un poco entroncando con ese superventas de manera tan descarada.

Een mooi vervolg op het "graalcomplot", het eerste boek in deze serie. Opnieuw een archeologische vonst die de wereld op zijn kop zou kunnen zetten. Interessant verhaal met niet al te veel spanning en een voor mij einde met meer voldoening, dat al een tipje van de sluier geeft voor het laatste deel in deze serie.
Ik merk wel dat ik moeite heb met bedenken wie ookweer wie was en waarom ze relevant zijn in de eerste 100 paginas. Ik weet niet of dat door eigen concentratie komt of doordat er weinig wordt uitgelegd over de personages om er een band mee te kunnen opbouwen. Uiteindelijk worden de personages en banden logischer, maar er is weinig opbouw of groei bij de personages, afgezien van iets in het persoonlijk leven van het hoofdpersonage.
Ik merk wel dat ik moeite heb met bedenken wie ookweer wie was en waarom ze relevant zijn in de eerste 100 paginas. Ik weet niet of het door de Nederlandse vertaling komt of door de manier van schrijven, maar het taal gebruik was simpel en onaantrekkelijk. Met korte zinnen van vaak maar vijf woorden en met meerdere plot-holes was ik snel mijn aandacht kwijt. Terwijl het principe/idee zeer interessant was, was het verhaal niet goed genoeg uitgewerkt.

J'ai adoré! Cotten Stone est une sorte d'Indiana Jones féminine ayant une touche spirituelle. Ce livre mélange l'action, l'archéologie, le mystique, le sprituel et la foi. Et même si vous n'êtes pas trop au fait des paraboles religieuses que l'ont retrouve dans les écritures, je suis certain que vous apprécierez ce livre. Vous avez le "libre arbitre" de le lire ou non, à vous de décider.😏

Membaca novel ini seperti membaca cerita fiksi gabungan antara pengarang-pengarang kaliber sekelas Dan Brown dan James Redfield. Ceritanya mengalir dalam alur yang bervariasi, cepat, dan terkadang lambat di beberapa bagian. Mungkin ini adalah kelebihan Lynn Sholes dan Joe Moore dalam membawa pembacanya ke dalam alur yang naik dan turun. Terkadang saya begitu ingin lekas-lekas menyelesaikan halaman demi halaman, dan di waktu yang lain saya ingin membiarkan buku ini teronggok di atas meja saja.
Ada begitu banyak aspek yang terlibat dalam cerita buku ini, mulai dari filsafat, akhir jaman (Armageddon), kebudayaan-kebudayaan kuno, fisika quantum dan partikel, hukum kemungkinan, dunia-dunia paralel, keimanan, setan/iblis, tahta suci Vatikan, relik kuno, malaikat-malaikat yang terusir dari surga (Nefilim), intrik seks, kekuasaan, balas dendam, pertobatan, dan kehadiran Tuhan.
Pembaca akan dibawa berkeliling situs-situs kuno seperti Machu Picchu di Peru, dan Salmon Ruins di New Mexico. Kota-kota seperti New York, London, Vatikan.
Menurut saya pribadi, buku ini terlalu "singkat/ringkas" untuk disajikan. Begitu banyak kejadian yang (dipaksakan) melompat. Sehingga pembaca harus menggunakan energi lebih untuk menggambarkan detail yang dimaksudkan oleh penulis-penulisnya, pada beberapa kejadian yang seakan dipaksakan untuk "fast forward". Karena kesimpulan dari bab sebelumnya langsung tertera pada awal atau tengah bab selanjutnya. Menurut saya, akan menjadi sebuah pengalaman yang menyenangkan apabila detail kejadian-kejadian penting dituliskan tanpa harus dilompat.
Setidaknya buku ini apabila dikembangkan lebih detail, akan menjadi dua buku.
Cotten Stone adalah seorang reporter stasiun televisi SNN yang karirnya sedang terpuruk ketika liputan terakhirnya mengenai fosil manusia purba adalah hasil tipuan beberapa orang yang memang berniat untuk menjatuhkan dirinya. Dan saat ini Cotten sedang tereok-seok berusaha membangun kembali kepercayaan dirinya yang runtuh. Tidak disebutkan riwayat keluarga Cotten, hanya saja Cotten adalah salah satu dari dua puteri kembar dari Furmiel, salah satu Nefilim yang diusir Tuhan dari Surga. Saudari kembar nya ketika dilahirkan, langsung masuk ke kerajaan surga menggantikan ayahnya yang tidak bisa kembali ke surga. Disebutkan pula Furmiel sebagai Nefilim yang bertobat dan menyerahkan jiwa nya kepada Tuhan dengan cara bunuh diri.
Dunia sedang diserang oleh wabah bunuh diri. Jiwa-jiwa yang terpuruk. Menjadi santapan dan sumber kekuatan Setan. Ms Stone ditakdirkan untuk mencari "tulisan tangan Tuhan" sendiri untuk menyelamatkan peradaban (atau beberapa peradaban)

Το βρήκα απ'τη μάνα μου, η οποία το αγόρασε τυχαία σε μια έκθεση. Είναι η ελληνική μετάφραση του Destiny of Souls, αλλά μόνο το δεύτερο μέρος. Το πρώτο μέρος δεν ξέρω τι λέει.
Το βιβλίο απλά δίνει κάποιες περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες σχετικά με τον σκοπό της εμπειρίας των πολλαπλών ενσαρκώσεων και της μετεμψύχωσης, καθώς και το τι κάνουν οι ψυχές στο ενδιάμεσο¨πώς αξιολογούν την προηγούμενη και την επόμενη ζωή, πώς συναναστρέφονται με άλλες ψυχές κτλ, ακριβώς δηλαδή όπως στο "prequel", το Journey of Souls . Βασικά, είναι σχεδόν το ίδιο βιβλίο, απλά με υλικό παρμένο από διαφορετικούς πελάτες/cases (περιπτώσεις θα λέγαμε;). Θα άξιζε να υπάρχουν καταθέσεις και ιστορίες από διαφορετικούς υπνοθεραπευτές και ερευνητές. Για του λόγου το αληθές, ο Dr. Newton παροτρύνει την νέα γενιά στο τέλος του βιβλίου ν�� πάρει τη σκυτάλη και να διευρύνει τη γνώση μας για τον άλλο κόσμο στα χνάρια του. Δεν θα το κρύψω, θα μου άρεσε να κάνω αυτή τη δουλειά και να μάθαινα ιδίοις όμμασι περισσότερα για τον κόσμο ο οποίος «δεν μας είναι φανερός αλλά ο σύγχρονος τρόπος ζωής έχει κάνει επιτακτικότερη από ποτέ την συνειδητοποίηση των ανθρώπων της ύπαρξης του».

The blurbs in the back cover was the one inviting me to take this book out of the store. I was really on the mood to read some magical conspiracy story. So, reading the first chapter was a pure bliss. The plane tragedy was the lead up to something bigger, or at least it was supposed to. Well, it was not that I expected big out of this text.
I kinda like the premise of the tablets. That was interesting, especially on the idea of a civilization before Noah's great flood. A lost civilisation almost struck me. But not in this book. The premise was underdeveloped, the tablets did not appear but one. Reading this part actually feels like reading a cheap ripping off effort of Dan Brown's books.
On the other hand, another underdeveloped concept was when Cotten woke up in a tribe and learn how to work her mind. That chapter reminded me of The Celestine Prophecy, just not as deep. It was one false lead in the book, when I expected to read more on the experience of training the mind.
Personal conclusion : nice premise for a supposedly well done book, yet it resulted in a rare one.

Oh lord... what to say? Basically as bad as The DaVinci Code (probably a little worse because it was less hilarious) but from the opposite point of view. It's one of a series, and I haven't read the others in the series but I hope they did a better job of making the reader care about the protagonist because, based on this book, I didn't. Also based on this book's summary of previous books, I don't want to read those either. Weird turns of phrases which made me think it needed a better editor ("the consulate's wife" for one. Sebenarnya, cerita ini lemah sekali. Tidak ada getarnya. Hanya berupa riak kecil di permukaan air. Tidak ada kedalamannya. Tidak ada ombak, atau angin ributnya. Karakter-karakternya pun tidak kuat. Bahkan nyaris menjengkelkan. Tapi ide yang ditonjolkan kedua penulis sih boleh juga. Tentang kesatuan. Dan walau ide ini sebenarnya tidak baru, bahwa ini menyangkut spiritualitas dan mencari kedamaian batin dalam diri. Jadi di bagian terakhir saya cukup terhibur dengan penjelasan penulis. Karena itulah saya memberi 3 bintang. Walau sebenarnya buku ini hanya mampu meraih 2 bintang.

Overall, much better the second time around. I have read it before. As I got closer to the end, I knew how it would end. But it did take until I was nearly at the end to realize it. I enjoyed it much more this time. I must not have been in the mood for the storyline when I read it the first time. The story moves quickly and keeps the reader's interest. When I finished reading this one the one one before it, The Grail Conspiracy, I didn't want to read the next one. Now, I think I'm ready for it.

crystal tables written by god, the mist forms, millions of fireflies appear and everyone that sees them commits suicide. Cotten has to find the last tablet and save the world from Armengedon . Or does god has another plan?
I did not enjoy this book as much as The Grail Conspiracy It was a lot harder to follow although a very interesting read.

Well, ini novel asal pilih baca aja, ternyata dan ternyata, ini buku kedua. *hahaha, hallo-hallo, buku satunya aja ga baca, jadi mana bisa ngerti, yah sedikit ngerti sih...
Ceritanya tentang wabah bunuh diri, nefilim, setan, lucifer, klasik lah... tapi sekali lagi karena ga baca dari nomor satu jadi ya ga begitu tertarik.

teknologi kuantum ?
kita butuh membaca beberapa kali untuk mengerti tentang apa yang dimaksud dalam cerita karena menggabungkan beberapa teknologi masa lalu dan masa kini
cara penceritaannya terlalu vulgar untuk dibaca anak di bawah umur (kalo emang tu anak hobinya baca :p)
endingnya g hebat2 amat, tapi teori konspirasinya lumayan meski agak samar.. :)

This one headed off into a direction most wouldn't want to follow but it was in keeping with my ACIM-look on life. I enjoyed reading this and felt good while doing so, though I'm thinking most conservative folks wouldn't feel the same way.

Picks up where the grail conspiracy left off. I enjoy these sort of fiction books that infuse history especially religious history and background and thought this book was very good. Looking forward to reading the Hades Project as this ends with me wanting more!

December 22, 2014The Last Secret is as good as the Grail Conspiracy... maybe even better. Well written. Characters are well developed. It is a great story of the end of times.... The battle between good an evil. It is not written in a heavy preachy tone as some in this genre. A fantastic read.

In dit tweede deel is het gelijk duidelijk dat de strijd tegen de Nefilim doorgaat.
De bijkomende informatie is interessant genoeg om te maken dat je doorleest. Verder zijn sommige 'oplossingen' voor problemen erg simpel. Hierdoor is het thriller- en mysteriegehalte aan de magere kant.

I like the premise of these books. But, they just fall short for me. The first in the series was ok, so I thought maybe the second one would be better now that we know the characters. If anything, the first was the better book.

Excellent writing again in this follow up to Grail Conspiracy. There is a section where Cotton is able to attain a wonderful peace, a great concept and I so wish I could go there sometime. The concepts here were a bit more dense - or maybe that was just me! :-)
