Sigh…

After being thoroughly disappointed by this author's astrology for beginners book, I wasn't holding out much hope for this one. However, a look at the table of contents suggests this book may be better. It has more chapters and appears to be logically divided into chapters, with topics appearing to flow easily from one to the next. However, I could see the kernels of potential problems in the introduction alone. In more than one place, the author purports that this simple book for beginners has “everything” the reader would need to know about druid beliefs and tools needed to perform druid rituals. No book can have *everything* a reader needs to know about a subject! I'm always leery when I see that in a book! There's also some disturbing cross-cultural misappropriation in the reference to shamanism.

The first line of the first chapter sank my hopes for the book completely. Here, the author states that the “massive” modern interest in Celtic culture derives solely from an interest in druidic practice! Seriously? There is so much more to the many Celtic cultures and societies; druidism is just a small part of a few of them. I strongly dislike overblown statements like this. Another issue, the author actually calls Celts “Celtics” in one heading! That's a sports team, not what the people are called! If druidism fascinates you--and it is interesting and resonates with much in the modern world--I suggest finding a better book on the topic.

I received a free digital copy of this book but that did not affect my review.

A Good Essay with lots of References for further research

I hope this comes off respectfully, as I truly appreciate Ms Hill’s intent here.

This reads like a well notated college essay that comes in around 100 pages.

It doesn’t go very much into depth on any particular subject, which I found slightly frustrating (for example, the section on how to create an altar only tells you to do so, without really explaining the size and crafting procedures, and says “you may wish to make a travel altar as well” without saying what that actually consists of).

That said, it is an excellent source for finding different Druid Groves and resources from external orders, so you can use this guide to point yourself in the direction that speaks to you.

I want to thank Ms Hill for putting this together as a beginning step, but I think the title (Everything You Need to Know about Druid Magic, Solitary Druids, and Celtic Spirituality) is inaccurate.

Overall, this was a good beginner introduction. However, I'm rating this at a 2/5 because I think the recommendation to use your own urine to fertilize your special tree is a stupid suggestion & should've been replaced w/ something that doesn't promote public urination or urinating in a bottle & dumping it at a tree.

I'm going out on a limb saying this, but I'm pretty sure that most developed countries don't take kindly to public urination & I know it's illegal in the US, so don't do it unless you want a public indecency charge & put on the sexual offender register.
If you need to give a nitrogen based offering/sacrifice to your special tree, then either get legit fertilizer, compost, or green composting materials.*** Don't just piss on or around the tree.

*** Please refer to your local CO-OP Extension, if you don't know what I mean by this [green composting materials]. It is not just something labeled "green" from the store.

An interesting introduction in druidism as delves into background, history, differences between celts and druids, historic and neo as well as hedge and group druidism. Lovely chapter on ogham and trees along with rituals for the eight festivals associated with the wheel of celebrations from druidic perspective. Definitely a basic introduction and foundation to peak curiosity.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Druidism for Beginners is a very light brushing over of what Druidery is about. Some of the information may not be correct. If you truly want to learn about Druidery there are a lot of good books out there to get you started. This is not one of them.

For beginners

In general I liked this book. Basic info and a quick read. I would recommend it for beginners. Surface material, not a deep dive.

This was ok; I wanted it to be more informative but maybe that’s not fair to judge it on since it is for beginners. Some interesting stuff. The narrator drives me bonkers.
