First in a series of 12 murder mysteries set along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, Blind Malice introduces Rachel Myers, a native of the area who has come home for her father's funeral. The service is barely over when questions surrounding her father's death and his financial affairs begin to pile up. Myers is not a professional detective but her natural ability for solving intricate puzzles, her tenacity, and her faith in that little spark that says she's on the right track, enable her to uncover shocking secrets from her father's past and come face to face with the menace that led to his death. Some praise for this CleanReadingMimi.com "This is a great series for mystery buffs! The author is really good at weaving the story and setting up the characters so you care deeply about each of them." Readmedeadly.com "For nature lovers, Annis Ward Jackson's Rachel Myers series, set in the Blue Ridge mountains of Appalachia, can be as addictive as popcorn!"
This was my first Annis Ward Jackson book. The author was recommended to me by the librarian in the town where I spend my summers located near the Blue Ridge Parkway. I have actually hear the author speak at a program on herbs. The book was excellent. I really didn't want to put it down. It was a page turner.
I loved the setting, the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina near Virginia. The characters were believable. The story begins with a funeral. The main character, Rachel returns home to take care of her father's funeral and his estate. She comes to find out that the relatively newcomer banker had taken advantage of her father in many ways.
If you like the mountains and real life dramas, you will like this story.
The first in a series of murder mysteries set in the Blue Ridge mountains. Rachel Myers grew up there but left to pursue her career as a nurse in teh SouthWest. Her father's death brings her back home where she finds that much has changed in the town she grew up. While handling her father's estate she stumbles across some strange happenings which yield some interesting previously unknown and surpeising facts about her past. Okay read if you need something light.
"Blind Malice" was a decent start for this mystery writer. The characters, Rachael and Isaac, are likable and I found myself wanting to know more about them which led me to read the next book in the series. The ending was typical of a female detective-type but nonetheless it was an easy, fun read.
This first of Annis Ward Jackson's Rachel Myers Murder Mysteries, Blind Malice, is an exciting read set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains. Characters are eccentric and quirky, and the plot involves a surprising twist at the end that changes everything. I also appreciate that the language is pretty decent and there are no offensive scenes. Great reading. I look forward to more in this series.
I loved this book. Rachel is a likeable character that you empathize with immediately. Sudden death of an aging parent, modern development of the country side, suspicious "friends" of the family, and a BIG family secret all wrapped up cozy. I really liked the descriptions of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Must be beautiful. I plan on reading more in this series.
little suspense. little interest. some local geology.
Rachel Meyers goes home for her father's funeral and discovers someone had been taking advantage of him for the last few years by swindling him out of his money.
This is a fast-paced, well-written mystery. You will be able to get to know the characters very quickly, and like them. This was the first book I have read by Jackson, and I have already downloaded several others of hers to my Kindle.
