Opening Line: “Now that looks like trouble.”
Do you ever find a book on your shelf and think to yourself why the hell did I buy this? Well that was the case with THE LAST LONE WOLF. I have no memory of purchasing it and no idea what attracted me to it in the first place. And in saying that now that I’ve slogged my through it I can also add that there was absolutely nothing new or interesting in this story except for maybe the premise which quite frankly doesn’t even make any sense.
Jericho King is a former Marine, now all bitter and grumpy after “a life of service” (even though he’s still quite young) He craves solitude and lives on a mountain surrounded by hundreds of acres of wilderness. But a guy’s gotta make a buck too so he runs a leadership camp out of his lodge, teaching wilderness skills to big city company folk. On the first page Daisy Saxon shows up; all high heels, tiny designer dog and TSTL. Daisy is way out of her element on the mountain, looking like she’s just left an upscale mall but still believing that she’s the right woman for the cook’s position.
Normally Jericho wouldn’t even let someone like her apply for the job but Daisy’s the sister of a fallen comrade and he made a promise to help if she was ever in need. So he goes through the motions of hiring her, expecting that she’ll hightail it back to the city as soon as she fails the mandatory 2 day survival test in the bush.
But Daisy is full of surprises, refusing to fail, refusing to quit until she gets what she came for …Jericho’s man juice. That’s right she wants his baby, using the logic that Jericho and the Marine Corps had stolen her family so they owed her one, one baby that is.
And later my favourite line
“Damn it, she seduced me for my sperm.”

The characters were likeable, the plot very predictable. The ending was disappointing.....the big, guilty secret was just " underwhelming". I felt like the author just reached a specific word count and realized she had to end the story in 25 words or less!!

Como en todo harlequin hay dos héroes, el protagonista un ex marine que no quiere tener amor en su vida, y una heroína que quiere conocer nuevamente una familia.
se enamoran en una cita bastante interesante, en un campamento dentro de la finca de Jerico, una cita bastante interesante. y una Daisy que le hace la vida a cuadritos y que enamora solo de verla.
Como en todo harlequin hay dos héroes, el protagonista un ex marine que no quiere tener amor en su vida, y una heroína que quiere conocer nuevamente una familia.

Love this book, mainly because of the female lead. In the beginning she's annoying, but her resilience is pretty funny and cool. I love the fact that she took this dry man, that just wanted to be left alone, and warmed his heart to the core. She's no nonsense, and I wish more relationships started out like this!

I liked it alot. Not much sex considering it's a Harlequin Desire but it was a good wholesome story.

MMC "Oh look a hot chick, I want her, but she's a city girl I must drive her away, but I want her, but she doesn't belong I should toss her out now, but I want her, has lots of sex with her and keeps planning to send her packing."
MFC "I have fallen in love with this man I hardly know who wanted to toss me out, but I am still scheming to get pregnant and leave him. Oh never mind I love him and I won't leave."
MMC "I have decided that I do love this hot chick, but she can't stay I had a hand in her brother's death, but not really it was war, but I love her, but I want her gone, I'll propose!"
MFC "I told him I loved him and that I am going to have his baby before he could propose to me and he left!"

Thankfully this book was short (I stuck with it for a challenge.) Daisy Saxon's brother served with Jericho King in the military, until he was killed in action. Now Daisy is coming to Jericho looking under the guise of a job on his ranch, but in reality she wants his baby. This book was pretty ridiculous.

It was ok, I liked hero and heroine. I just didn't love the plan of heroines and why she would plan on getting pregnant by a guy never met before, I did really like the connection between the them. P.

Daisy was all alone after her last family member got killed. But despite that she had grieved and was now determined to make a good life for herself. This included making the family she had dreamed of. Being part of the system that destroyed her brother and someone her brother had admired a lot Jericho's long ago offer of help seemed to meld perfectly with her new agenda. Now while I liked Daisy a lot her hidden agenda did give me a lot of trouble as it seemed very unfair to Jericho. Jericho was great but was hiding himself away from life a bit as he obviously needed to heal some from his service. Daisy brought him out of his shell again. I loved how he always strived to be fair in his treatment of Daisy, even so far as helping her despite himself. Needless to say both their initial ideas and feelings changed. However Daisy couldn't keep her agenda hidden when this happened and Jericho kept having a tug of war with himself and alternately pulled and pushed Daisy as he tried to keep his feelings at the status quo. Both of these issues caused problems and could have derailed both their hopes. As both Daisy and Jericho had secrets it was wonderful how they each dealt with the others and actually it seemed to just strengthen their bond, after they let things out that is.

The hero Jericho runs a wilderness retreat, and the heroine Daisy turns up looking for a job as the retreat's cook. Jericho and Daisy actually have a connection, as Jericho was in the marines with Daisy's brother and with him when he died. Jericho offered help to Daisy after this happened and now she's here to take him up on his offer. Only it's not actually the job as Jericho thinks, instead Daisy is desperate for a family and plans to try and seduce Jericho in order to get pregnant. Jericho knows that he offered to help Daisy but thinks she's too much of a city girl to belong at the lodge. But she surprises him with her enthusiasm and determination, and he finds himself attracted to her. Jericho tries to ignore his growing feelings for Daisy but they both succumb to their desire eventually. Daisy realises that she is falling in love with Jericho but feels guilty over her real reasons for being there, and whether to tell Jericho or not.
This is a really well written and thought out book. The plot is also slightly different and that kept me interested. I liked both characters, both are written with an inner sadness that felt very real, and that they could only heal each other is a really nice part to the book.
I do think this book lacked a bit of oomph, but it is quite an enjoyable read.

A traditional romance between the womanly woman and the manly man... she's soft, industrious, out to get what she wants... he's ex-military, a loner, doesn't feel cut out to be a husband and father...
Daisy and her brother Brant were on their own... she was older, and raised him... and he joined the marines, and gave his life... Jericho was his commander, and Brant died in his arms, and he felt some guilt over not blocking his volunteering for a dangerous mission... he promised Brant he would help Daisy... He made the call to Daisy, but she declined any help...
A year later, he has left military service, and taken over his family's mountian home, beginning a business of wilderness training for personal/company development... and Daisy has moved past her grief, and realizes that she needs a family, and she wants a baby, ang Jericho is her link to her brother... so she applies to be cook at his camp, with the intention of seducing him so as to get pregnant...
and he doesn't want her there - he takes her on his wilderness, overnight challenge - and though she's not the outdoorsy type, her determination wins out... her little dog Nikki gives us moments of smiles - and Jericho starts to call her CB - Coyote Bait.
and she worms his way into his home, and into his heart... they have passionate nights, she brings warmth into his sterile home, she is a great cook, and she falls in love... he falls in love... they must bring honesty to the table... and then... ahhhhh

I've started reading the King Series from book 1 and so far, this book is on the bottom of my list. Maureen Child has used the baby/marriage plot for this series and I have nothing against it. As a matter of fact, I really liked the first book to this series (Bargaining for King's Baby)till the Wedding at King's Convenience. But this one has failed to live up to my expectations.
First reason, I dislike the heroine. I find that I absolutely can't relate to her or even want to.
Second, the plot. The plot was okay but the way it was delivered was not. I feel like it's lacking in some places but I would not write it here since I hate spoilers.
Third and lastly, the hero. If a woman lied to me, even if I love her, I would still be furious. Probably give myself a few weeks to distance myself before I could forgive the betrayal. Because in real life, men would not act like Jericho. He is too fiction.
I give this story 1.5 stars. I finished this book for the sake of finishing the series but I was bored halfway. The only saving grace for me is that it had a dog. Who doesn't like them?

A Very predictable romance novel. I found Jericho a tad annoying and not very interesting. Daisy did the best she could to try to fit in. Half way through the book I was ready to give up on it but I just wanted to see if Daisy got her wish. I didn't think Jericho's secret to be anything worth thinking over. I was more exciting about the side characters such as his brothers and Sam and disappointed that they weren't more involved.

this was a nice quick listen. I usually don't tend to enjoy stories that begin with "i need to trick him into marriage/knocking me up" but this one was tollerable. The narrator, Dave Beach, had a really nice voice and reminded me of Richard Frangione.
