Mind Change: A Biblical Path to Overcoming Life's Challenges

Rate this book
Life is full of challenges. Pain. Illness. Persistent sins. Misunderstanding. Insecurity. Disappointment. Abuse. Discouragement. Depression. Failure. Fear. Rejection. Opposition. Confusion. Death. None of these surprise God. He has a plan for us to overcome them all. This book is written to help readers see that challenges are not unusual and God’s plan for overcoming those challenges will work powerfully for His children. In addition to the usual obstacles, author Thomas Jones lives daily with the challenge of multiple sclerosis. "Mind Change" grew out of his efforts to find God’s power in his weakness and to discover the way to live a productive life of impact in spite of things that could hold him-and all of us-back.

This book was amazing! This book was recommended to me by a disciple in America in a time when I was struggling with anxiety and a big change in coming back to Australia. I found that the book had simple and practical steps to take in order to have a more Godly mindset.

I also found the "Power Thoughts" at the end of the book very helpful and I am still going through them in my quiet times.

Life is full of challenges and this book will help you see them in a whole new light. You will find yourself looking at your current difficulties not as obstacles to happiness but as experiences that will help you draw closer to the Lord. Being close with the Lord will be your ultimate happiness.

This book starts with examples of people in situations that seem impossible to the human mind. Everyone will find themselves in at least one of the examples. The next chapters will give you simple principles to apply to your thinking so you can overcome the weight of your problems and move forward in your own walk with the Lord. Instead of saying "I know God has promised …but my problem is to big." We need to learn to switch our thinking around and say "I know my problem is big but my God has promised….!"

Another concept that is hard to grasp is that your current circumstances are right where the Lord wants you. Sometimes your situation is great and other times you wonder how you got into such a mess. We need to remember that God created you at this time for this purpose. The purpose doesn’t have to be world changing but could just be learning to trust Him in your day to day life. The author does a great job of using his own personal experiences in life to show you that the Lord is at work no matter the situation.

The book ends with fifty thoughts you can practice saying in your mind to learn how to trust in the Lord better. Two of the thoughts are "In all things God works for your good" and "Decide to enjoy the challenge." Both of these and the others listed will be a great encouragement to keep putting your faith in the Lord even when you don’t understand your circumstances.
