Not as good as the first one but still pretty good.
Much less cohesive than volume one. I started to tell that this was written as a serial in a newspaper as it started to drag on. Kind of like the later seasons in a tv show you love where you still love the characters but the plot is starting to get kinda meh.
I did like the parts with Chaikl in the yeshiva, and the new characters it introduced. Some parts of this book was meh, other kinds were as terrific as vol 1. Not a must read sequel but if you loved the first one then this is worth reading.
The second volume of Chaim Grade's epic Yiddish novel, The Yeshiva, didn't start out with the cohesiveness and power of the first volume, but once the focus of the story turned back to the tormented Tsemakh Atlas and his poetic former-student Chaikl, the impact of the first volume returned. Nice vignettes of other students at the Yeshiva partially make up for the lack of philosophical torment in the first part of this volume.
