Read this book and learn the combat-proven techniques big-city cops use to stay alive and effective when the bullets start flying. Maintain the tactical advantage in any situation by knowing how to search buildings for armed intruders, use cover and concealment, maintain proper distance intervals and much more.
Suarez provides the most compelling analysis that has ever been conducted on the topic of small-arms usage. Handheld firearms comprise a majority of guns in America, but their collective utility had not been previously tracked in detail. The final product culminates in an overview of the best tactics to use in tandem with a personal firearm. These techniques are statistically supported as the safest way to neutralize any threat.
So the book teaches you how to move through an open space, or enclosed space like a building in order to look for threats while not giving away your position. The book starts on clearing spaces alone and then moves into operating in two or three man teams.
The author many times will tell you if a technique he's suggesting might not be favored by other instructors or internally for use by law enforcement. What he will then do is tell you why this method is likely to keep you alive and why you should do it anyway. This comes up a lot in the single person room clearing where the author is making the best of a lot of bad choices.
On its own this book is very informative and useful as a training aid. However, it is not different enough from Suarez's second book "The Tactical Pistol" that I would recommend reading both. In fact, he tells some of the same stories and uses some of the same drawings and photos in both books. They are almost identical. That being said, it's clear this guy knows what he's talking about, and you could stand to read it if you plan to defend your home or place of business with a firearm.
