Makoto Amano wants to become an actor, but his stern father has decreed that the only way Makoto can pursue his dream is to spend the last two years of high school as a girl! He quickly makes friends with popular tomboy Ito Miura, another drama enthusiast at this new high school and the only student to find out his secret--but are they more than pals?
Sixteen-year-old tomboy Ito Miura has become fast friends with her schoolmate and fellow drama enthusiast Makoto Amano. The problem? Makoto's a boy who must pass as a female drama student in order for his family to approve of his acting ambitions.
Just as Ito and Makoto begin to feel the impact of their strong attraction to each other, Takayo, a fiancée imposed on Makoto from childhood, and her sinister brother Takashi, have decided to transfer into Makoto's new school! Add a college-age lothario and a spoiled rich-girl actress, and what chance can gender-bending true-love possibly have?
So cute and fun! Maybe 4.5 stars, really. I love that protagonist Ito is tough and not (usually) conventionally feminine, but also widely popular, especially with other girls. It would be kind of nice if she seemed to have more close friends, but I really like how many people admire and look up to her, especially in the theater club. She's physically strong and quick to take action, not passive or a wallflower. Plus, she stands up for herself when it seems like Makoto is giving her mixed messages or not making her a priority in his life. It's very refreshing!
This gets an extra star for the rooftop Swan Lake scene. What's not to like about Tchaikovsky, martial arts, and over-sized mascot costumes? Ah, to be in drama club again. Unfortunately the rest of the story was pretty formulaic and boring.
I've read this series loads of times and I just really enjoy the characters and their unique personalities and the light heart fun that goes along with the best times of high school. Ito's bright energy is contagious.
The growth of Ito and Makoto's relationship in this volume is golden. I love seeing Ito confronting Makoto that although she's stronger than most girls, she's not impossible to hurt.
Man, do I hate the Iizuka siblings and Toki. Burning rage. So many sweet, calming moments in this one.
This series is just as fluffy, cute, rom-commy, and nail-bite inducing it was the first time I read it (in 8th grade) 🥰 I bought the entire series (finally - 12 years later), and I don't regret it!
the plot in this book is that makoto's bad brother is going and transfer's to the new school she's going to. and everything isn't turning out that well and they got ready for the play there doing at school. so all of this drama is making her kinda unsure of life.
i can connect to this book becuase my cousin went to the same school as me. and it was werid i would see her in the hall way and always have to wave to her. and she's not my favorite cousin so when makoto's brother came i could connect to her. and how ever she might be feeling because of it.
i rate this book 3 out of 5 stars beucase it was ok and i can connect to it. but sometime i got bored it wasn't every good but it was ok. but i like how it relates to kids my age. so thats good but i recommed this book to people how like comic books.
I love this gender-bender, funny, romantic, a little paranormal manga.
Ito Miura is a tomboyish girl whose looks and attitude makes her easily mistaken for a boy. As a member of the drama club she always play male roles. Soon she meets the new transfer student Makoto who is a beautiful girl, who is really a guy in disguise. Makoto has made a deal with his father, to be able to follow his dream of becoming an actor, he must attend high school as a girl and nobody must know. So when Ito finds out the secret by accident she swears she won't tell. This starts their weird friendship that soon turns into a strong bond...love...
Throughout the story there were a lot of love stories that come into play as examples which the witness and strength their love.
it's a good thing that there were some fighting scenes otherwise i would have been freakishly bored. that should be hard for someone like me to say considering the story could be flat-lining and if there is something romantic on the horizon, i get all excited. i really enjoyed the variation on the swan princess (which is one of my favorite stories - see, anything with a romantic hint). it added a fun twist to what seems like a very uphill battle for makoto and ito.
Certain elements of the plot remind me of Gravitation at times, and Ranma 1/2 at others. Other plot elements just feel recycled. For example, if Ito plays a girl and Makoto plays a boy one more time, I may have to stop reading the series. (I understand it's a joke on what's actually going on in the series, but there must be something else they can do for a bit.)
Contains Chapters 5 - 9: This series is a lot of fun and I really enjoy all the problems they end up dealing with and how they end up resolving them. I loved the chapter about their performance of Swan Lake and their trying to recruit new first years for the drama club. The characters are all really fun. I am looking forward to the next volume.
