Digging Deeper

Rate this book

This is a suggestive romance (loves scenes are not graphic)

Archaeologist Beck isn’t expecting much to come out of this summer’s dig. While his colleague spends the summer in Italy, Beck draws the short straw supervising a group of archaeology students excavating on the grounds of Hartington Hall in Yorkshire. Little does Beck realize when he saves a redhead from the attentions of an amorous ram, that this accident-prone female will throw his ordered life into chaos.

The last thing Flick needs in her life is a digger, because some secrets are meant to stay buried. Very deep. But Beck is irresistible. She’d love to get him into bed, though after the incident at the swimming pool, the collapsing wall, the snake bite and the unexploded bomb—a hospital bed looks more likely. As their relationship lurches from one disaster to another, Beck has to delve deep to get to the bottom of this irrepressible redhead.

One thing is clear—you never know quite what you’re going to find when you start digging.

About the author

Barbara Elsborg

Barbara Elsborg lives in Kent in the south of England. She always wanted to be a spy, but having confessed to everyone without them even resorting to torture, she decided it was not for her. Volcanology scorched her feet. A morbid fear of sharks put paid to marine biology. So instead, she spent several years successfully selling cyanide.

After dragging up two rotten, ungrateful children and frustrating her sexy, devoted, wonderful husband (who can now stop twisting her arm) she finally has time to conduct an affair with an electrifying plugged-in male, her laptop.

Her books feature quirky heroines and bad boys, and she hopes they are as much fun to read as they are to write.

I have to say I absolutely adored this book. The writer is witty, intelligent, and knows how to introduce great comedy without going overboard so the book is humorous without being “too much.”

I fell in love with this book from the very beginning. You cannot help but be hooked when a sheep is chasing down Flick making it look like they are doing some type of dance because she was trying to get the animal away from her boss’s precious rose garden. I love the fact that Flick has confidence without being overly cocky. The dynamics through out the book are absolutely great. Each character that was presented played a good part in the book without having all these extras where you need a series because it is overwhelming, the author left you satisfied with each characters outcome.

I was thrilled at the fact that every time Beck and Flick come together something goes horribly wrong that is so very me. I tend to make a great first impression, it is my lasting one generally. I usually put my foot in my mouth or head some where else and I loved that Flick persevered no matter what happened.

The writing was great I was laughing out loud through most of the book getting weird looks by the babysitter while I read it. I didn’t care though this is one of those books you just can’t keep the laughs in. I re-read my favorite scene about five times because I just couldn’t believe the author was that creative in a mortifying situation that made it not only endearing but hilarious.

This was a fun and enjoyable (if a bit frustrating) read.

I liked it because it was a bit like watching a sitcom. You know those shows (like the office seasons 1-4) where you watch them and each episodes there is sexual tensions but something keeps keeping them from sealing the deal. Although it's a bit frustrating and annoying it is also mysteriously addicting.

One of my favourite themes was in this book: Down-on-her(or his)-luck. I love reading about people who are making it work even when things are terrible. I like that. A lot. But the thing that really struck me about Flick was her pride. Like honey, let it go and ask the people around you for help, they clearly car about you there is no reason not to.

Some of the lose ends aren't tied up at the end ... but I didn't really feel like I was left hanging because the books seemed more like a sitcome, so when I finally got to the end it was like the season finale.

Another thing I liked was Flick's interesting relationships with people. Some of her relationships are good, others are flirty, others are friendly, and some are hateful.

I'm not sure I'd reccomend this book to anyone. I'd wouldn't feel confident that anyone would like it. I enjoyed it but I think you need to be in a certain mood or a particular place in your life to tolerate some of the annoyances in this story.

I really enjoyed this book! Barbara Elsborg has such a fab sense of humour which clearly comes out in her writing skills and in her stories, flawless!

I loved the opening scene , which involved a sheep and a chase….I actually laughed out loud as I could picture the scene playing out in front of me. That is the true mark of a class Author!

I liked both Flick and Beck. Flick was adorably sweet yet confident but so very unlucky! Sometimes frustratingly so, however, I was in stitches of laughter at times, then cringing for her the next!! She was a lovable eccentric! Oh and Beck was pretty yummy!

The relationship between Beck and Flick is FAB, the attraction very believable! Got to say though that the amount of misunderstandings these two characters had, you’d think you might as well give up!
I was rooting for Beck and Flick…willing them to happen throughout but did start to wonder….LOL!!

OMG the angst h00r in me is exhausted! If one more terrible thing happened to Flick I was gonna lose it!

Another hilarious twisty book from the brilliant Barbara Elsborg. Our quirky heroine Flick has had a string of unfortunate luck. And to make matters worse, somehow Flick just does. Make matters worse that is.

When Beck sees her he is immediately smitten. He knows there is more to her than what she shows everyone, but he can't figure her out. It doesn't help that she is constantly thrown into crazy and bizarre situations that do nothing to help her tarnished image.

Will they ever manage to get together? And If they do will they survive it?

First of all...I love the cover and want it for myself.

Sometimes I wanted to shake Beck and tell him to run far and fast from Flick. Other times I was infuriated with him for not supporting her more, turning on her so many times.

Loved Beck. He was yummy. Thought Flick was her own worst enemy. But the dialogue was so funny I'd just follow Elsborg anywhere.

Enjoyable but also annoying AF. Barbara really puts her heroines through the wringer. Funny and sad and a bit slapstick. Characters who weren't that nice but who improved towards the end.
Worth a read but take a deep breath.

I love Elsborg's style. I love the quirky main characters with the complex backstories. And I always love her abundance of supporting characters, where many other books just have a guy and gal falling in love alone together, Elsborg always has a cast of many, which is brilliant. That's what I really liked about this book also. I loved Flick and the massive comedy of errors...but I didn't really like Beck. I understood why he fell for Flick but I couldn't see why she would fall for him. With the exception of physical attraction, he was mainly an ass. He constantly condemned her and it was more than a few times, which would already be too many. Frankly the only other truly likeable character was Henry, and he had more chemistry with Flick than Beck, he was sweet and enjoyed her mishaps instead of getting angry, and he was understanding. I know it's totally wrong but I wanted Henry to dump his shrew wife and get together with the much younger Flick. She deserved an awesome sugar daddy. :)

10 stars for the comic relief hahaha...
this book is 90% comedy and 10% romance..
this might be the cleanest book Ms. Elsborg wrote and concentrated in making the reader laugh:D

Flick and trouble go hand in hand like pb&j sandwich..yep she can't even kiss Beck because of so many troubles that went to them both haha...

I love the bantering game Flick has with Henry. It was so amusing to imagine. Flick's wit and comeback dialogues and how she could always land herself in trouble sure made reading this interestibg....

I loved this book! I can't remember the last time I laughed as much as I did while reading this book. The heroine was awesome, her antics were hilarious, the story line was good, and the HEA was just as it should be. I'd definitely recommend it.
