Alix, Courtney, and Fern aren't "bad" girls. They are respectable students who have hit on a great way to pull in good money. They can buy designer gear, take vacations abroad, and aren't even out of place at a millionaire's party. As long as they follow their own rules and keep themselves safe, who cares how they earn the extra cash? No one's going to get hurt—or are they?
Let me put it this way, there isn't anything technically wrong with the writing, so my rating has nothing to do with Judy Waite's ability to compose a story. It's not as poetic and doesn't flow as much as I would have liked it to, but we can’t all get what we want.
The story is told from the alternate views of 3 girls. Fern, a shy inexperienced good girl that desperately wants the attention and friendship of Alix, a manipulative and self centered schemer that is constantly coercing Courtney, a disaffected, brooding, self loathing loner.
Each of the girls is in a position they’d rather not be in, Fern with a sick father and a mother that treats her like a baby; Alix with a mother more concerned with her own love life than the well being of her daughter; Courtney, perhaps the worst off of them all, dealing with horrible events from her past. All of them are looking for a way out of their circumstances and Alix comes up with a brilliant idea. Sex for money. Because you know, nothing can go wrong with that. Right?
This is supposed to be a thriller, but that part doesn’t even happen until the end of the book and when it happens it feels as if it doesn’t quite fit. It’s as if you’ve started reading another book, yet you’re still dealing with the same awful characters and dialogue.
The characters aren’t likeable, tolerable at best. Even with the back stories and plot twists that are designed to make you sympathetic towards them, I found myself still hoping for this book to end. There is a character, just one, that I would have like to see much more of, but unfortunately he wasn’t a teenage prostitute, so there goes his page time.
I really enjoyed this book!!! :D one of my favs and i recommend this book. Read it in 2 nights haha couldnt put it down!! loved the characters especially alix! cant wait too see if Judy can write a sequel.
