This book had a lot of the club members' old silliness back. It was nice in a way. Although, I feel that all the club members' personalities have grown and so I'm hoping this is just a small setback. I like how funny they are, but Tamaki especially is back to his old ridiculous self. Not going to lie, never did like his old self that much. The maturity that he's developed while still being a fun caring person is the Tamaki I like most.

How I choose my rating:
1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much.
2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end.
3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I might finish the series if it is a part of one.
4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will almost always finish the series if part of one.
5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will definitely finish the series if it's part of one.

Tamaki was actually getting on my nerves for a bit in this book... I'm so happy Hikaru told him exactly what I was thinking! The last chapter made me feel kinda sad... I'm not sure if I'm ready for this!

*3.5*

While there's a lot I enjoyed about this volume, there's sadly also a lot I didn't. I'm simultaneously happy and sad about Tamaki finally coming to terms about his feelings, mostly I just feel heartbroken for Hikaru (I think I might like him more than Kaoru and Tamaki at this point... but that might change later lol), and even though it was funny, I didn't care for Tamaki's reaction, it just felt a bit off. I did really like the sparked rivalry between Hikaru and Tamaki, it's so funny how similar they can be. But the stories aren't really resonating with me, and I can't help but feel a little bored (I feel awful for even writing that T-T). This review feels so clustered and all over the place, sorry lolol.

I can't really rate this because my feelings towards it is clouded by the anime I watched. I know this Vol. wasn't adapted though, anyway. I donno why I started reading this Vol. I should've picked up on it where the anime ended so I guess there were some spoilers as well :( and this isn't really a review or anything I'm just blabbing about it.... hheeeh.. wutever!

Aside from a return of the girl that tried to curse Hunny into a relationship with her (creepy), this was a solid volume.

I enjoyed Tamaki being a wreck over his realized feelings for Haruhi. I'd missed the girls drooling over Haruhi. There was definitely not enough of that in the volumes after like vol. 4. The guys sort of take a backset here aside from Kyoya who's looking into the Suoh family lawyer.

I'm surprised at how time has passed here. I feel like multiple years have passed since they've had multiple winters, but we're just now getting to Hunny and Mori's graduation.

3 volumes to go.

It’s a competition-type thing & the prize is that the winner can get a Host Club member to do whatever they want & different clubs & people from the school all join in hopes of getting a Host Club member to help their clubs or something of the sort - so the first task they set Tamaki on is the Which One is Hikaru Game after a long time & ofc Tamaki knows right off the bat - next is picking ingredients for a curry & then more tasks to get more and more ingredients - & Tamaki realizes the purpose of the game & asks whose idea it was & they tell him HAruhi’s & HE FINALLY REALIZES THAT HE LOVES HER & THAT HE’S BEEN IN LOVE WITH HER A LONG TIME NOW!!!! <3 <# OMG OMG OMG THIS IS EPIC FOR TAMAKI!! & he flashbacks to all those times he kept insisting he was her Daddy & how he kept feeling attracted to her but tried to deny it, saying it’s because i’m her father so it’s ok & that it’s natural & so on - & he realizes he didn’t want to face things because he didn’t want to get hurt nor hurt anyone else…
Next task: defeat Mori’s game-moro tells him someone once told Honey that real strength is being honest to yourself & that that’s when he, Mori, also decided to trust that person (Tamaki said that ofc) & even Mori can’t win his game so he lets Tamaki pass - next is Kyoya’s crossword - the point of it all is to get Kanoya to spit out her feelings & get her to react to her situation, so to speak & stop being all numb to what’s going on - last task: Haruhi’s mouth of truth; 4 things she’ll ask him & if he lies, the mouth swallows ur hand & u lose - Kanoya fails on Q4 when asked if she was sad about leaving her father - & Haruhi yells at Tamaki about it; that he’s been twisting them all around, scared of hurting them but they know his habits, good & bad & that they still want to be together! & Tamaki realizes he was just scared of losing these precious friends <3 Tamaki also talks to Hikaru & tells him that he, too, loves HAruhi & he’s back to his old self; full of energy but he also knows the meaning of love now - then he goes to see Haruhi & he’s freaking out, wondering what she thinks of him & can’t even get his thoughts together; he’s simultaneously happy & embarrassed HAHAH SO CUTE OMG <3
BUT BY THE TIME THE CLUB’S MEETING HAS ROLLED AROUND, HE’S BACK O NTRACK, ENVISIONING MARRIED LIFE WITH HARUHI & HE’S GOING TO FIGHT FOR HER LOVE AS A MAN & HAS NO QUALMS GOING AGAINST HIKARU!! & he wants to visit her father to pay his respects LOL -Haruhi’s birthday is the following week, so it means war between Tamaki & Hikaru finding the perfect present for her - but also, Kyoya lets the Host Club know about the lawyer of Tamaki’s & her suspicious meetings with the Suoh family head - they have to host the winners of the competition, these 2 girls & Tamaki & the twins annoy Haruhi to the point where she yells at them all to GTFO - & THAT BITCH LAWYER CAME TO SEE RANKA, HARUHI’S DAD, TO TELL HIM THAT HARUHI SHOULD LEAVE OURAN & NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THE SUOH FAMILY ANY FURTHER - OFC THAT WHORY GRANDMOTHER IS BEHIND THIS - & for Haruhi’s birthday, Hikaru & Tamaki both end up getting her a rice water machine thing & she likes Kasanoda's gift, a mushroom kit thing LOL
Side story: how Haruhi’s parents met - Ranka was 19, she was 25, a newly hired lawyer - & isn’t he just the charmer :P & he’s super friendly & walks her home and stuff but it’s because eh wants to protect her if one of the ppl from her last case came after her & some girl did & he’s awed by her coolness & asks her to marry him & they do - took 2 months only LOL
Side story: Kanazuki, the black magic club member, is trying to ask Honey on a date but is too nervous - or it’s that she’s in love - & Honey’s aware but he thinks it’s cute - so she eventually asks him to eat popcorn at the movies with her & he calls her out on it :P <3 how cute!!
More & Honey are graduating that year OMGGG :( HOW CAN THEY LEAVE THE HOST CLUB - NEKOZAWA’S GRADUATING TOO LOL & KANAZUKI WILL BE THE NEW PRES - & Honey’s going into the Science & Technology faculty & might end up having a Toy factory while Mori’s going into philosophy of law OMG THE HOST CLUB CAN’T BELIEVE THE DUO IS GOING TO SPLIT OMG :O :O LIKE WHAAAAT - the Club is more shocked than Mori & Honey LOL - but Mori’s younger brother says Mori’s not happy about separating form Honey; that their family decided but Mori says it’s his own choice - & Kyoya also realizes that if Honey wants to get into development then Mori getting into law makes sense so he can support him later- all that makes sense, but Mori’s so distracted & acting strange…
And it doesn’t hit them lil he loses a karate match against a first year because he’s so distracted - Honey confronts him, all serious, asking what’s going on & Mori says he’ll tell him but first, he wants a match against Honey !!! OMG :O :O :O :O WHAT IS THISSSSS?!?!

In the previous volume, Hatori said that she wished she could have included chapter 67 through 69 in the previous volume which seems very apparent. In the last few volumes, it seems that the floating timeline has finally been anchored. The last volume ended with the Hosts scheming something to help both Tamaki and Kanoya and it turns out their plan was to host an Ouran Orienteering Tournament. Essentially, they have six stations manned by each of the Hosts where each of the contestants must complete each challenge in order to collect the ingredients for a curry. The winners can make the Host Club do anything they want, so the entire school gets involved at a chance at this golden opportunity. Since this whole thing is a plan to have Tamaki and Kanoya discover their true feelings, Haruhi is tasked with guilting Tamaki into joining the competition. First up is the 'Which One is Hikaru' game. The Twins have temporarily dyed their hair the same color again and no one can seem to tell the difference, but as soon as Tamaki sees them, he's immediately able to tell the difference between them and moves on to the next challenge. Though, when he's tasked with choosing the ingredients for their curry, Tamaki does exactly have the best sensibility for what flavors go together. The next challenge is led by Nekozawa and have to choose an occult object and describe what it does. While struggling with the Black Magic Club, Hunny calls Kyoya from his checkpoint and they discuss whether their plan will actually work. Just as Kanoya finds an occult that Tamaki can correctly identify, Haruhi bursts into the checkpoint to tell Nekozawa to inform the players that the final challenge will take place in a different location than expected. Since everyone is too busy with their contestants, Haruhi has to run to each checkpoint to tell everyone the change in plans. At this moment, Tamaki starts to realize what the Hosts are scheming. Their next challenge is Hunny's take on the peasant's game of Whack-a-Mole, but whenever someone hits the bunnies, Hunny starts crying hysterically and begging them to stop hurting them. Tamaki is easily able to pass this challenge, especially after realizing this is all fixed for him to win, but once again picks ingredients that just don't go together, which horrifies Kanoya, being the one that has to make all of them work together. Haruhi races to each checkpoint, remembering just how much Tamaki has done for others and wanting to help him in his time of need. Before their next challenge, Tamaki informs Kanoya about the girl he has fallen in love with and how he doesn't know what to do about his feelings. This is the first time Tamaki has actually acknowledged his love for Haruhi, and not in the way a father loves his child. We learn that Tamaki realized his love for Haruhi after the kidnapping situation and realizing just how much of an idiot he has been up until this point. He was scared that his love for Haruhi would cause others to get hurt and didn't want to face it, but how could a coward like him ever win the heart of a girl as unwavering and earnest as Haruhi. He tells all of this to Kanoya, hoping that it'll encourage her to face herself in the same way that he had been struggling to do. But before she can respond, Mori interrupts them and challenges Tamaki. He says that his test can only be passed by someone that is true to themself and that a coward like him could never win. Mori also says that he is true to himself, which is why he has never lost his game, but as soon as he goes to demonstrate that fact, he loses. Out of embarrassment, he allows Tamaki and Kanoya to move forward and choose their ingredients. I have a feeling that this gag is foreshadowing for the next arc, which is heavily focused on Hunny and Mori. Anyway, Tamaki goes to pick their ingredients, but Kanoya finally tells Tamaki what she wants and chooses their ingredients for the first time. It seems as if Kyoya and Haruhi's plan is finally working. Next up is Kyoya's checkpoint! Kuze and the rest of the Football Club has been struggling with Kyoya's crossword puzzle since the beginning of the tournament, but it seems that the club regulars are doing well. When Tamaki starts the puzzle, he starts to realize that the answers relate the Host Club in one way or another. When he finished the puzzle and goes to grab the ingredients, Kanoya, once again, asserts herself and picks the ingredients that she wants. Kyoya tells Tamaki that Haruhi is waiting for him, as she's finally finished telling each of the stations about the change in plans, even though the Class President points out that's she could have just used the P.A. system instead of running around like she did. Kanoya and Tamaki's final challenge is the 'Mouth of Truth'. One of them must stick their hand inside the statue's mouth and tell the truth about any question asked, but if they lie, they'll be trapped forever. Haruhi picks Kanoya to stick her arm inside it's mouth. She asks Kanoya three simple questions about herself. The final question, though, is pretty hard hitting. Haruhi asks if she ever regretted moving so far away from her father. Kanoya lies and the mouth clamps down on her arm as she cries for Tamaki to help her. He tells Haruhi to stop this and she calls him a liar too. She tells him that everyone is here because of him and no matter what, they want to be with him. In the heat of the moment, Kanoya confesses that she wants to go home to her father, which is when the mouth lets go of her. She finally opens up to Haruhi and Tamaki and says that both of her parents are hurting due to her grandparents not supporting her father's dream of wanting to become a comedian. This little revelation brings Tamaki back to his normal self as he can't help but laugh at such a ridiculous thing. Their plan worked. Tamaki is back to normal and Kanoya was able to be true to herself. The chapter ends with Tamaki finally admitting to himself that he's in love with Haruhi. The next morning, Tamaki has become a fool in love. Everything is wonderful and beautiful because of this love and he's somehow become an even bigger idiot. The one thing that is troubling him is that he doesn't know how Haruhi feels about him. He keeps going back and forth on whether she's also in love with him. Tamaki has the rest of the Hosts throw him a birthday party as he has been reborn after finally knowing the power of love. He gets carried away trying to figure out what last name they'll have when he and Haruhi get married. While Tamaki is having his crisis, Haruhi realizes that she was jealous that Kanoya had gotten so close to him. Since the floating timeline has finally been kaput, it's Haruhi's 16th birthday and Tamaki and Hikaru silently challenge each other to see who can get her a better birthday present. With all of the chaos, Kyoya reveals that he doesn't think Kosaka is who she says she is. Since Tamaki lost the tournament that was practically rigged in his favor, the Hosts take the winners on a private date to a botanical garden. Both Tamaki and Hikaru struggle to find the perfect present for Haruhi. Honestly, if I had to be any character in an anime or manga, I would choose to be Haruhi just for all of the gifts that she's gotten over the series. Tamaki comes up with a sappy proposal, but ditches that plan when Hikaru tells him that it's creepy. Ever since he's gone back to normal, Haruhi has been avoiding Tamaki, not really understanding what she sees in him. The rivals realize that Haruhi would probably appreciate a cheap, practical present. Meanwhile, Ranka gets a visit from Kosaka and it seems like they know each other, though Kosaka has claimed otherwise. The group date ends with the boys making fools of themselves and Haruhi being drenched. While Hikaru is busy finding the perfect gift for Haruhi, Kaoru wonders about what Kyoya meant about Kosaka. The final chapter confirms our worst fears. Hunny and Mori are finally graduating, but it seems like something is troubling the latter. He's been tasked with fighting every member of the kendo and martial arts clubs, but after the Hosts find out that after graduating Mori and Hunny will be separated, something seems off with them. Hunny is cold and callous and when Mori loses his against a first-year everyone knows that something is off between the two. The volume ends with Mori challenging Hunny to a duel. It's a very dramatic end to the volume. I can't wait to see what happened between Hunny and Mori in the next volume. After such a heavy volume, we get a cute extra of Kanazuki trying to ask Hunny on a date. It seems like they both really like each other. There was ever a throwaway line in the last volume of Hunny offering her to try some of his cake.

- " Esa chica... ¿Te gusta?"
- "Sí. Y probablemente me gusta desde hace mucho."

Oh my...

Gah - I love how the club have worked together to not only get Tamaki out of his slump but also to help Kanoya. It amuses me that they didn't win even with things so much in their favour, but it's also nice to see that the general school members enjoyed it as well. Seeing Haruhi do things for Tamaki, when we know she hates running, is just so sweet. It makes you want them to realise their feelings so much sooner - but the way the first chapter ends is enough for now.

It's amusing that as soon as Tamaki actually verbalises his feelings to someone he reverts to his usual self in that he fails to think things through. I guess it is some sort of safety mechanism for him really. But I do feel for Hikaru during this arc. The backstory of Haruhi's birthday isn't really needed I feel - except to also emphasise that the series is drawing to a close. We've had at least three spring celebrations since the series began so in reality none of them would still be in Ouran but in this volume we have the first canon birthday and Mori and Hunny (whose name I spell wrong all the time!) acknowledge they will, finally, be graduating.

Hearing that they are going to be separating is interesting but at least as far as this volume goes I wish more focus was put on Tamaki and Haruhi. However given we have the evil lawyer lady go to Renka and advise that Haruhi not only leave Ouran but not be friends with Tamaki anymore I know we will be getting some more of them very shortly. Plus, there are only three volumes left and so much left to resolve in that time!!

Technically, I read all this on the monthly release, but there is nothing as priceless as Tamaki's COMPLETE AND UTTER OVERREACTION to his final realization about his feelings for Haruhi. It's a beautiful thing!

I guess the family drama is going to be in the next tanko... do I sense an end to Ouran in the future????!

Yes!! Finally - back to the shenanigans and silliness!! I was super happy! This volume returned to the whole reason I was pulled into this series. All the silly craziness was back and I was laughing my arse off! Good times.

But also, still Team Kaoru. Just Saiyan.
