Do you remember me? is the story of Louis, a man who years ago faced a tragic moral dilemma. Now the consequences have come back to haunt him. This gripping novel will have readers thinking about love, friendship and whether there is ever any justification for betrayal. When Louis receives a phone call from Bertrand, his childhood best friend and companion of arms in the French Resistance, announcing his visit for the evening, a long day of anxiety begins. The two men haven't spoken since their return from hell in Buchenwald 65 years ago. Louis had betrayed Bertrand to the Germans in order to save his Jewish girlfriend. For years, Louis has tried to live a normal life and worked at forgetting his crime and betrayal. What will happen when Bertrand shows up at his door? From a setting of German-occupied Paris in the 1940's to the Buchenwald concentration camp to the present time in Chartres, France, Do you remember me? is told from the traitor's point-of-view. His lifelong struggles with guilt, haunting memories and the quest for redemption make for a powerful, poignant novel. • •• Reviews from the French press • •• "Unforgettable!" -Marie-Claire "Deeply unsettling." -Elle Author Pierre Delerive was born in Lille, France, grew up in Paris and currently lives in New York. Born and educated in France, my career in international marketing took me from Paris to Hamburg, Brussels, London, and finally New York. After a few years managing an American company, I realized that I had to make a choice if I wanted to pursue my life-long dream of being a writer. I resigned, ended my business career, and started to write full time, a decision I never regretted. My first novel "Simple Soldat" was published by Albin Michel in Paris. Having taken an NYU course in screenwriting, I wrote the film adaptation of this novel. A French movie producer bought it and allowed me to direct the movie since it was my condition to the deal. The movie was released in theaters under the title "Le fusil de Bois" and is often shown on TV. Back in New York, I kept on writing and had four more novels published in France. The titles are on my website. My latest novel is in English and was published by Outskirts Press. "A dark and distant place" is available on Amazon and Barnes&Noble. Finally, I must acknowledge the undying support of my wife, Toni Silber-Delerive, a talented painter.
This a short, simple novel about friendship, love and betrayal. It is a book about the holocaust which I vowed I had read enough. This was chosen for a book club and the author will be there!!! This is worth it. It reminded me of EMBERS - a favorite book of mine.
