A collection of the war comic serial from the 70’s, featuring work by an ensemble cast of very talented writers and artists (check out F.A. Philpott, I was surprised!). The series was originally published in Battle Picture Weekly in England. So it would have been difficult for war comic aficionado’s to get copies of this magazine in America.
This books starts off with the very first Rat Pack episode, where the potential pack has to find out if they can work together to accomplish a desired goal. Also, we have to find out if Major Taggart can keep control of this band of criminals who would love a chance to take out the Major and escape on their own. There is this underlying conflict subtly carried out throughout the series which is surprisingly well written, as well as the very detailed artwork to add more depth to the stories. As the series goes on, there is more character development so that the readers can connect with each of the main players. A surprisingly touching scene was done in just a couple of panels in the episode Blood to Leningrad.
A wonderfully reproduced collection of the first 22 episodes of the Rat Pack would grace any collector’s shelf. If your collector enjoys the movies The Dirty Dozen, The Cockleshell Heroes or Inglorious Basterds, and the comic Sgt. Rock then this would make a wonderful addition/gift. © Night Owl Reviews - http://www.NightOwlReviews.com
