"It's just something that I have always trained my mind and fingers to do, so I decided to incorporate it into a skill. Most people think that I am just an indie author. But I am a book publisher, who happens to write as well. We are an intimate publisher who works with first time authors to customize all of their projects with a step by step process. We hold the author's hand from pricing all of the way to cover design and distribution costs. Not only are we the least expensive, but the quality is second to none." When he is not writing he loves to do bodybuilding and play with his kids on the weekends while his wife spoils him with tailgate food. Some of his inspirations come from Richard Wright, W.E.B. DuBois, and James Baldwin.
I was extremely disappointed and quite irritated that anyone would publish such a poorly written book. I was especially annoyed that it is an African-American Christian Fiction book. I purchased it as a free ebook and felt that I had paid much too much for it.
I purchased the two sequels on the same day for a few dollars. I am currently reading the second book of this trilogy entitled "How Do I Get Out of Here?" which isn't any better than the first but being the optimist that I am, I continue to read on hoping the author will somehow redeem himself a bit by the conclusion of the trilogy entitled "Never Going Back There." I pray God will do a continued work on the heart and mind of this author, pulling a greater work out of him in years to come.
I got this book free and it was picked for our monthly book discussion in a bookclub that I am in. Normally a book this short would only take me a day/day and a half tops to read, but I just couldn't get into this book. I finally struggled through it and only to find my self wonder what was going to happen next. Now that is not such a bad thing since the sequel is already out. To be honest, I'm not quit sure if I will purchase or read the sequel. This was suppose to have been a christian book, so I can understand why the writer would leave something to the imagination, but the description of everything was kind of bland. Hopefully, this was the authors first book, and the sequels will be written better and are easier to read. Anyway, I think the moral of the story was to show readers how even Christians can get caught up in sinful situations and be tempted into wrong doings. We as Christians are sometimes tested and often fall short of doing what God intends for us to do. We often have to learn our lessons the hard way.
I couldn't get into the characters. I think the author's writing style was poor, wouldn't recommend this. Usually, when I read the first book of a series I get hooked but I won't be reading more from this author.
Not a book for me. I like the way it ended....truly - a cliff-hanger! But from the first paragraph I hated this book. I am a "falling-in-love" type gal, but I read several different genres.
I kept expecting Preston and Longs to say "jive turkey" after every sentence. I couldn't figure out what decade this book took place.
So easy to see not only a story I can relate to but also one there all too familiar. Did like how the author allowed us to see the conscious mind trying to steer Preston in the right direction which allowed it to seem real life because that is common in the life of man.
I couldn’t put this book down... I read it in between chores, breaks on work, at red lights. Gosh... this was an amazing read! I am going to search for the sequel now. I just have to know how this story unfolds.
Similarities of younger people jumping without thinking. No communication in relationship . I liked this book for reality of real issues we deal with today
This book started off super slow. I didn't want to finish it, but I don't like to start a book and not finish it. It didn't get good til maybe the last 5 chapters.
This book….…so I see that quite a few people didn’t like this book. Could it be because some were looking more at the errors within the book more than the story itself…? Ok so errors are what I saw as well but of a relationship better yet a marriage and the error in not communicating that led to plenty of issues. We want and want and want….chasing the wrong thing gets most in plenty of life changing trouble. That being said…I thought this book was a great read. I’m sure it hit home for lots of women and men. This is a lesson learned for both parties. Delight was a little overwhelming with the nagging noise. Women stop the nagging because that’s too much negative energy. Men listen (even if it’s nagging) through it all because you may eventually hear something that will make your marriage more loving. However, I do believe that men nag too just in another way. I have to say I liked Longs because he tried to help his brick headed friend Preston. If you can’t handle the good, bad, ugly and nagging in a relationship/marriage, then point the finger at the other…just take ownership of your own happiness in life and put on your walking shoes.... Looking forward to the next book.
I like this book because it what is happening today.we have o learn to communicate with each other in married life even tho I y not married.Preston was studying the ministry and this is what happen in study what happen if he was a minister Lustray go pregnant on purpose she knew he was married and she was also should not have been careless also Preston having a wife should have used protection for the sake of his wife he cod have end up with aid.I would love to read the next book to know how it is cleaned up.Love the book but hate the situation.Even tho Delight had a motor mouth Preston should have found a way to talk to her not who're in the street just think if he had to consulsor someone wants with the same situation What would Preston do!!!!!!!!
3.5 stars: Preston had so much going for himself. I don't understand why he would cheat on his wife. I understand that sometimes married couples argue or have disagreements, but this was foolishness. The story was entertaining and I know that it is fiction, but I expected more from a minister in training. Preston's friend, Long tried to tell him to leave Lustray alone, but he didn't listen. If he had listened, it would have saved him a lot of trouble, time and money. Stories like this make me wonder why people even bother to get married.
On another note, I know that the author of this book is a new author, but this book had a few editing mistakes. Hopefully the editing in the next book will be better.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I wanted to like this book but just couldn't get into the main characters.
It was amazing that married adults: played stupid games with each other (handling out of town guests, partying); didn't know how to communicate with each other (nagging/yelling and not listening); had a male "head of the household" who didn't know how to lead. I don't mind free/cheap books that are poorly written, but this one aspired to be more...
Finally, I am a graduate of Ohio State (which is mentioned alot in this book) and am just plain embarrassed.
A decent and fast read about a hardworking married man who gets involved in a illicit relationships and can't figure out how to end it. It's a free teaser book that ends in the middle of a conversation which was extremely frustrating. Normally I would purchase the second book. Not sure this time just to protest. other reviewers have complained about the writing style but I liked the fast pace and the voice of his conscious in his head. That's real.
I did not enjoy this book. From the typos and misspellings to the odd named characters, annoyed and unable to get into it. Although it is actually a quick read, I had to force myself to finish this one. It is an underdeveloped plot, the usual predictable story, with a weird ending. I didn't like it. Hopefully the next book by this author will be better, although I doubt if I will take any interest in anything else by him.
Oh My God! It does not pay to stray. Now Preston has messed up two families. First Preston & his wife Delight have three boys together. Their baby is a newborn. Second he began an affair with a married but separated woman named Lustray who has two daughters. And she is now preggo. Which means the babies will be eleven months apart. And third, had he listened to the Lord Almighty, he wouldn't be in such a mess.
This book clearly depicts how easy it is to put aside your convictions and allow sin to take control of your life. The plot and characters were well developed, but like some of the other readers, I was highly distracted by the many grammatical errors. However, I do plan on reading the rest of the series to see what becomes of Preston and Delight.
Be careful of things that you do. Both of them need some help with a lot of things. Preston should have remember " thou shalt not commit adultery. His wife should learned how to talk to him and not shout so much. It's time for the both of them go and get some help. Sorry about the child... Pray, pray.
I only read up to chapter three and I had to stop reading. This book did not grab my attention. I was bored with this book because it took too long to get interesting. I was a tab bit lost; and the story was not making since.
Improper use of grammar made the book hard to understand & therefore slowed the reading flow... Seemed predict able, however, intrigued to read the sequel, which may be better.
I loved this book from beginning to end because it shows the situations that we can get ourselves into when we ignore the warnings our conscience tries to give us. So 5-stars and two thumbs up.
