Every year nearly 400,000 women—approximately 15% of all new mothers—face postpartum disorders. Postpartum depression is the most common complication of pregnancy, yet few understand it or are prepared to deal with it. This book examines the causes of treatment for postpartum depression. Topics covered The Unexpected and the Unknown, The Roller Coaster of Postpartum Blues, Postpartum Anxiety Disorders, The Spectrum of Pospartum Depression, Navigating the Mental Health System, Understanding the Use of Medication, For Fathers and Families, and Looking Ahead.
I'm glad that there's information on what I think is often a topic that lacks resource and attention especially when talking about pregnancy. Although it is a symptom of pregnancy and the way a woman adapts to life changing events like motherhood, I think it should be more often addressed in mental health communities. Although this book covers the different scope of mental disorders that you can experience post-partum and does okay as an introduction for anyone that isn't so familiar with psychology it doesn't really give in full length how to overcome such obstacles. However, it does give wonderful reliable websites and phone numbers at the back of the book for you to peruse if one is suffering from ppd and doesn't know where to start looking for help.
Eh. It reads like a college paper on postpartum depression. Only useful as sort of an outline on the topic. But I can't imagine it would help a new mother unless we're talking the kind of person who has never heard of psychology.
